Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

I was shocked that Matt went first over Camille...I just don't think she is that good of a singer. I call her the Stoneface. She shows even less personality then John S. (even though his personality shows in those corny commercial videos!)

I don't like Fantasia..not just her voice but her whole attitude. I also don't get what every thinks is so great about LaToya. I felt the same with with Reuban last year. I would never buy a CD of hers.

As far as John S. forgetting his words I have been to concerts and big name stars have forgotten the words to their own songs. One country star even made a big joke about it happening to him. So I didn't feel that was that big a deal, it was more telling that he covered it well and finished the song.

JLP...nope didn't do it for me last night. Amy was good, but I can't see her going to far. Jasmine picked the wrong song to sing..it is not that easy of a song with all the different pitch changes in it. I thought Diana was good and didn't deserve to be in the bottom 3, and Jennifer is not a favorite...I know she sang on the Disney Cruise ship and she does have a nice voice...and I have to say I liked how her hair looked straight, you could see her face...which is cute when it's not covered by all the hair.

Does anyone know what they will be singing next week?

I actually shouted out loud tonight. I was shocked that Diana was in the bottom 3 tonight. Then I was shocked that it was Matt that left. Now, I don't like Matt, so I was not at all upset, but I was still surprised. I really thought Camille or Jennifer would go, and Jennifer wasn't even in the bottom three.

Where was the group performance tonight??? And tonight they are back to making the loser sing after they get booted? I think that's mean.

I enjoyed Kimberly Locke though, I always loved her voice.

I love George, I think he's great, but does anyone else expect him to start jumping up and down yelling "hercules, hercules"??

wait... was tonight 1 hour or only 30 minutes? i forgot to check my VCR timer, and it looks like it only recorded for 30 min. i hope i got the whole episode...

I was disappointed to see Diana in the bottom three over Amy. Diana is very good. Last night was the first of Amy's performances I really liked. I've always thought she was a little weak, but she did country incredibly well. But Matt..., oh Matt. He was TERRIBLE last night! He was so off key! I was very happy to see him go, he really was the worst last night. I was glad Camille was able to stay. She has a really good voice, but the poor thing lets her nerves get in the way, I felt bad, but at least she gets another chance now.

Ugh....I really wanted to see Camille go tonight...Just don't like her
Granted Matt wasn't a great singer...but at least he was nicer to look at

The ONLY good part of tonight's show was hearing Kimberley Locke. She was the best last season in my opinion, but I know many would disagree. I am anxiously awaiting her album on May 4.

I cannot belieive that Matt went before some of the others. He probably isn't the best, but at least he has a personality. I personally think John S. is about as horrible as Carmen was last season, but apparently he has a following. I have stated this time and time again. Unfortunately AI is less about talent and more about a popularity contest. There are a couple really good singers this season and a couple of horrible ones and it seems the horrible ones (in my opinion) must have a strong fan base because they are still there. :(

I slept through the show  and I'm just now discovering who got voted off. What a shocker! I think that Jasmine probably did the worst job last night likely due to her song selection and Fantasia is my least favorite. I don't dislike Camile like so many here  but she does need to settle down if she wants to stay.

Oh well, unpredictable as always.

I heard on our news, next week is..............

MOTOWN!!!!!!!

They also said they'd be doing big band again, and a few other genres that I forget...

I thought Camile would go tonight. I don't think Diana deserved to be in the bottom three but that's the way the voting system works. I think if each phone was allowed one vote we would see something totally different.

What's the difference between soul and motown?

soul is a genre, Motown is a music label. Motown week means they will be singing classics/top hits from artists who were on the motown label. Stevie Wonder, etc.

But aren't Motown singers basically soul singers? I think they should have spread these two theme nights apart.

I completely agree. There are those who vote for more than one person (guilty:o ), and those who vote for one person multiple times (guilty sometimes). So yeah, if every phone was only allowed one vote, there'd be some big differences.

Ooh I hope next week is Motown, I really liked that theme last year.

I've heard Kim Locke's song on the radio once before and I thought she did great tonight! I've always loved her voice and thought it should have been her and Clay in the top 2 (with Clay winning though of course :p ). How odd though, that the judges commented on Kim and Ruben, but not Clay.

I have school Wednesday nights so I usually record it. When I came home they already had the bottom 2 but I was watching it anyway. I had to make sure John S. was safe, so I was so relieved when my mom said he was. When it came down to Diana and Amy, I kinda figured it would be Diana, since more people would think it was Amy. I'm kinda glad she was in the bottom 3, so maybe she won't seem as cocky as she usually does.

As for Matt going home I was kinda surprised. I thought all of the guys had strong fan bases but I guess not. He wasn't really a favorite of mine so it didn't really bother me. But his last performance was great because I loved the singing to Simon!:teeth:

I think the reason Diana was in the bottom three tonight is because so many people just assume she's going to get a large percentage of the votes, that they don't vote for her...even if it was their favorite performance. There are some definite advantages to being an underdog on AI.

I was happy to see Matt hit the road. He was too cocky and always thought his comments to Simon were so funny. I could hardly stand to look at him sometimes. I was surprised that he got the boot tonight though as I thought he would probably hang in there another week.

John seems to be so sweet and naive, but he really needs to develop some personality. He's got a wonderful voice but he's just too bland. Let's hope wardrobe gets him in some leather pants or something (LOL)!

I thought Camile would go, but also glad Matt is gone with that smurky smile of his.

I also enjoyed Kimberly's song. Plus surprised that the judges were again asked to comment on her performance. I'll save my comments for no comments to Clay for his thread.

At least it was a fast 30 minute show. I thought it was going to be 60 minutes, so glad it was just 30 minutes. Seemed like less commercials and flowed better. No fluff, thank heavens.

Kimberly Locke was my favorite from last season. I am so happy for her that she has a record deal!

That's excatly what I was going to say. We didn't vote for her because we assumed everyone else would. My mom told me thet Ryan actually said something about that on the show that we could inadvertantly (sp) vote somebody out. We learned our lesson!!! No more not voting for who we really like!!! LOL

Also, I would love it if they told us who got the highest amount of votes for that particular week. Wouldn't you....

I'd like to know who got the highest percentage of the votes. They did that when they were deciding the top 12.

I must have missed the comments after Kimberly's singing. What did the judges say?

(and I will be buying her cd, just like I bought Clay's)

Perhaps a quick letter writing campaign is in order ;)
