Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

Brianne, I thought had a great voice in the original auditions. I kept complaining to dh last night, that they kept showing her, but they never let us hear her sing. I really wish they would have.

Could someone explain this 'wild-card' to me? I havent really watched the other seasons in depth enough to remember, but it sounds like a possible way to get Nicole back on

In the wild-card show, the judges each pick their favorite contestant who didn't end up in the top 8 (making it the top 11). The viewers can also vote for their favorite, and the winning conestant becomes the 12th.

If I remember correctly ( and that's a BIG IF...) contestants CAN be brought back to compete for the wildcard spots, even if they were not one of the top 32. I know last season at least one girl was brought back, although it may have been because Frenchie got booted, I'm not sure

maybe my current favorites for next week will change once they perform.

We can only hope that the one's that are voted through get there for their talent and not because they are a hometown favorite, their good looks, etc. My top two favorites out of the five I mentioned before are Fantasia and Marque. But if someone else does better, that person will get my vote.

Frenchie was not one of the wild cards. I think Trenyce was a wild card, and of Clay was. He shouldn't have been booted in the first place but he ended up getting pretty far...:lovestruc

Just giving this a nudge for tonight. I have to tape it. I hope I get home in time to watch and vote for my favorite!

If I recall correctly, you had up to two hours from the end of the show.

My votes for tonight (if I could vote) would go to Diana and Fantasia.

Unfortunately, I accidentally missed the first four performances. But based on what I did see, the recaps, and my dad's opinions on the ones I missed (we usually agree), I voted for Erskine. His perfomance, which I did catch, absolutely melted my heart!:lovestruc

I liked Diana, but she's young and I wonder if she can keep it up week after week. It's a lot pressure and if she wins, a lot of traveling and singing etc. I'd rather see her grow up and then move on to bigger and better.

I know Fantasia is great but I don't like the high pitched voice. She is very different but may be too different.

I liked Jennifer and I like Matthew, but that may be 'cause he's so cute. :smooth:

Matthew is charming, and DCL should be proud to have had Jennifer as part of the crew. Fantasia absolutely sounds like Macey Grey. Those are my top favorites, but I am guessing Matthew and Fantasia will win, and hopefully Jennifer will be a wild card.

I don't think Fantasia sounds quite that much like Macy Grey. For one thing, Fantasia can actually sing, and Miss Grey can not; she has just an aweful quality to that "voice" of hers. Although, there was something in Fantasia's voice tonight that I didn't like. I do still like her personality, though, very sweet girl.

I liked Diana, Jennifer, Fantasia, and Katie Webber. Katie performs better than she gave us this evening. I hope that doesn't keep her from moving on. I have the same concerns about Diana that someone else posted--so young and can she keep it up. Jennifer's song choice left me a bit cold. Fantasia was, right on though and I'm sure she'll move on without the wild card choice.

I have to say though there wasn't a performance tonight that I disliked. Erskine had a bad start to his--some nasty notes there in the beginning. :(

I thought Diana sounded great. I didn't like Fantasia. I don't like her voice at all. I don't like Macy Grey and I think they sound alike. I was surprised that Simon told her she didn't need this competition and the others did. I was wondering if we had just listened to the same person sing  . I also think Katie sounded good. I don't like the way Ashley sang Crazy, she didn't do a good job with the song.

How many will be voted thru to the next round tonight? Is it 3?

only 2 move on but some can be brought back by wildcard which I think the judges pick

I have to agree with Tess...there really wasn't a performance that I disliked either

I think Diana was my favorite. Michael reminds me of Matthew
McConaughay. Liked the song he picked but like Randy, I don't think he has a voice that will make him the next idol. But he sure is yummy to look at!!!

I love Katie Webber's voice, but I think her choice of song will be her undoing. I think the core audience that will be voting won't care for the jazz song she sang. I didn't care for Fantasia either, but everyone else did a very good job.

I wonder if the next 2 groups will have as much talent. It would be a shame if some of group 1 got let go, and they end up being better than others let through in the other groups. (Does that even make sense--I'm not awake yet!)

I also didn't care for Fantasia's voice, too screamy and screechy at times. I liked Diana the best and wouldn't mind if Matthew went a little further so we have some eye candy this time. They always complain when they DON'T look like an idol are too fat, old..., but, with the exception of Paula, don't give points for when they do have the look. (Except for Simon and Carmen last year, but I won't even get into yodel girl).
