I haven't heard anything further on Scott Stevens from the Devils. He took a wicked slapshot square in the ear last night. They reported that he had a cut ear (no kidding) The way it looked on the replay, he caught it dead on. Do you think that the injury is more than what they are saying? I mean, he is one tough player and to see him laying on the ice for an extended period of time was not a good sign. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't play in the next game. Either way, I hope he recovers quickly. Even though I am not a Devils fan, I do not wish that type of injury on any player........well.....except maybe Matthew Barnaby (man that guy just gets under my skin)

All Flyer fans may be happy with how Roman has played, but they're also afraid of how he HAS played. If you get my drift.

I just kind of figured Razor was making the Disney/Ducks tie-in. Still kinda funny tho! I didn't see the ESPN feed tho (DirecTV blacked it out), but I wouldn't be surprised if they made the same comment.

The last I heard about Stevens was he has a lacerated ear and was taken to a hospital for it. They *never* release injury info in the playoffs, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has a concussion. Obviously, the team got good news at the 1st intermission. The Devils looked totally different in the 2nd period (what can I say? I'm sorta cheering for them. Nieuwendyk, Langenbrunner, and Marshall are former Stars. ). I'm not sure he'll be back for Game 4, but I bet he's there for Game 5.

Well, my boys just got the win in game 3 against Minnesota. I only got to watch the thrid period, as I was out with some friends (I kept on looking at my watching thinking, "OK, I've missed one period. Now I've missed two periods"). But, am glad that they got the win tonight. Bring on Game four. I'm ready!

Stevens will play tomorrow. He's that kind of player. Jeff, I'm afraid the old Roman showed up tonight. It's painful to see goals like that, after you see some of the saves these guys make (see goal #3 on Marty last night for further evidence)

As I've always said, "Good things happen when you put the puck on net." You can ask my family, they'll confirm the statement. Ottawa certainly proved the theory right. Now, all you Philly fans leave Roman alone. He played the percentages as all NHL goalies do by protecting the low side when beening screened. Yes, it was a lucky goal but refer to my opening quote. How the Flyers react on Thursday will determine if this goal was the series turning point. I doubt it.

Vancouver looked good last night scoring those goals. The Canucks certainly took advantage as both teams failed to get 20 shots for the game at either goaltender. Hey, there's not too much bad blood between these teams, is there? I mean why wait for 7 seconds when you could have started when the puck dropped? I doubt if Lemaire will change his stategy much so look for more of the same and possibly Fernandex back in net.

And tonight, can the Ducks get back to winning or will the Stars tie the series up? Can NJ bounce back (as it did against Boston) and go up 3 games to 1 heading back to the Meadowlands? Ah, another round as the Stanley Cup Playoffs turn!!

Scott, you are right on the money. I think Roman played a nice game last night. 98% of NHL Goalies would have played low on that particular shot from that angle. He had 3 sets of legs to look through for crying out loud! I think the Flyers outplayed the Sens in almost every aspect of the game with the exception of the most critical one...The Final Score! I have faith that they will bounce back in a strong way tomorrow. I think the officiating was much better tonight than last game. The Sens still have a tendency to raise their sticks a bit.

Now, as for tonight, I have heard that Stevens is questionable for the game. I don't know for sure but I just have a gut feeling that he will be a scratch and his injury is more than just a lacerated ear. Even without him, I see NJ as a decent favorite tonight and they will be playing with a lot of emotion.

Anyway.......GAME ON!!!!!

Well, it worked, didn't it? I remember another team which used to have a diva by the name of Kate Smith sing a patriotic song before games back in the 70's.

And the Devils are just cruising now with Stevens back in the line up. Man, they just dominated the Lightning tonight.

Oh Scott, do you know the tradition of that "patriotic" song? Irving Berlin wrote it in 1918 for a musical review he was doing. It didn't quite fit the theme so he shelved it. In 1938, war was brewing in Euroupe so he brought it off of the shelves and made a few alterations. He then gave it to "DIVA" Kate Smith and she introduced it to America on Armistace Day in 1938. Ever since then the song God Bless America had become the unofficial national anthem of the United States.

As for how it got introduced into the Flyers organization, well, that is another story. One I'm not too proud of. Officials noted that when the national anthem was played at the opening of Philadelphia Flyers' hockey games, the fans were not properly respectful, while then listened more quietly to Kate's record of God Bless America. Furthermore, a statistician noted that they won most games when the latter was played. Fans were given a surprise on October 11, 1973, at the season opener, when Kate Smith walked across the red carpet on the ice to sing her anthem in person. They beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-0. Announcer Gene Hart commented that Kate "brought chills and a standing ovation of three minutes.

It fully met the ultimate definition of the word triumph. At critical games Kate was driven down from New York to repeat the favor. When the Flyers clinched the championship and won the Stanley Cup by defeating the Boston Bruins 1-0, even the Bruins skated over to shake Kate’s hand. She was called their talisman and good luck charm; she loved the free publicity! She repeated the role the next season, and the Flyers defeated the New York Islanders to retain the Stanley Cup. In 1987 they erected a bronze statue in memory of their "rabbit's foot" or "secret ice weapon," who had died the previous year.

An interesting side note, the patriotic song sung before Canadien sporting events was just that until 23 years ago. O Canada was first sung in 1880 and was composed by Calixa Lavallée. It was not adopted as the official national anthem of Canada until 1980. Two great songs in my humble opinion.

Now, if it is true that the Duck's organization chose not to sing the National Anthem because it had the word "Stars" in it, well, I have just thrown all of my support in the direction of Texas as far as the west series goes!

As far as NJ goes, man, Stevens is one tough dude! The Devils look real sharp. Props to them.
