Any of you with a three-ish year old boy have any ideas for a b'day present? This is a friend's child so around $20 is probably my price range. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

My son was 3yo in March.....Rescue Heroes and Dinosaurs are REALLY big right now. Fisher Price's Imaginext(you construct pirate ships, castles, etc) is also a hit. The upside is you won't be the one picking up the million pieces that it comes in!!

Toys R Us carries Off the Map adventure gear by Wild Planet. The trek pack tool belt holds bug jars, tweezers, net, flashlight, etc... costs about $10. They also have a pathfinder tool that's a toy version of a camping/pocket knife that goes with it for $5 and an adventure watch too. We always buy these for little boys ages 2-6. My daughter even wears it sometimes. The are very well made and quickly become everyone's favorite toy. www.wildplanet.com

Target also carries some camping/adventure tool belts similar to this near the camping section.

My 4 year old son really started getting interested in Rescue Heroes at 3. The police car is his favorite. Dress-up costumes are always popular at ages 3-4 as well.

My son will be 3 next week. I will answer you with one word;

TRAINS!!!!!!!

Actually Thomas the Tank Engine. He LOVES this stuff. Target carries the trains ( the metal ones) for 4-7$ And the videos are around 12$. But then my DS is an absolute freak about trains. We actually have to stop ON the train tracks to "check" if there are any trains coming. And if he hears a whistle in the distance, he starts running in circles yelling "CHOO-CHOO-CHOO-CHOO". :rolleyes: I have given birth to a loon.

My son's favorite gift when he turned 3 six months ago was a Thomas the Tank Backpack. It has backpack straps and a handle that pulls out too and wheels on the bottom so it can also be used as a rolling suitcase. He loves it and packs it before we visit anyone's home or it goes on the plane with us to Disney World. I got his at Marshall's but have seen them at TJ Maxx and Toys R Us.

Trains & trucks. All ds got for his 3rd b-day last month was cars & trucks and he couldn't have been happier!

Trains..............

My house is a huge train set. every one buys them for my DS 2.5 He has every Thomas Toy that Target sells....

Also I have recently found a new store in my area that sells Thomas toys the wooden ones and it is called A C Moores. Their prices are comparable with the other train shops, only they offer 50 % of cupons and will take competitors price off cupons. So you can get a train set for only $20 instead of $40..

Also on a recent road trip we have found the Kid K'nex. They are wonderful. They are a bigger version of the big kid ones. They can come in a 'jar' and you use the top of the jar as your base and build off of it from there. There are cars, trucks, fire engines..

My train finatic actually said he'd like a big set one day. They range in price from about $4- $20 and come in their own carrying case..

In fact we decided to get him one and have it be the gift from his new sibling when he comes to the hospital to visit. I thought it would keep him entertained, but he would remeber that his 'baby' gave it to him..

HTH

I'd go for the backpack as well especially if he may be starting pre-school in the Fall! My kids (3 boys) also love Toys R Us Gift Cards so they can take a trip to the toy sotre and pick something out themselves. Oh yeah- Disney Dollars are always good! ;)

For my 3-year-old, anything that has to do with Thomas the Tank Engine, anything Tonka, and anything SpiderMan would be a huge hit. He also likes to be creative with things like painting or finger-painting sets. (Again, you won't be the one worrying about the clean-up LOL)
