Hello, never stayed off site at Uni before, but what are some of the good places to stay, for a nice price? Key concerns are distance from the parks, clean, and safe. Thanks

Since you are asking about offsite hotels, I'm going to move this thread to the Orlando Hotels and Attractions Board for more responses.

boy sorry she moved you

Seems logical to me. Most people on the Orlando Hotels subforum stay offsite, at least part of the time. :confused3

waltslostnephew,

Are you wanting to hit the Universal Parks, the Disney parks, or both? And how many are you traveling with?

There are tons of options near the Disney parks; I don't know of as many near Universal but one we've stayed in is Orlando Sunshine, which is back by the Fun Spot on the other side of I-4. The Sunshine is not a large resort with tons of stuff to do, but there's a pool and tennis court and whatnot, and they just finished a refurbishment last year, so all the units should be pretty nice. :) Those are condos, though, all 2 BR units -- often a good deal if you're traveling with five or more, but there are better deals if you've got a smaller party.

Also, when are you going? The Universal "fastpass" system isn't free, but comes with the onsite rooms, so can make staying onsite a better deal some times of the year.

We stay at the Embassy Suites which isn't far from Downtown Disney and love it. We got our last stay $100 a night and Christmas the same price. It's a great hotel and free Breakfast and also Dinner. There's also one located near Universal Studios too.

We loved Caribe Royale. Spacious, great breakfast and closer than some Disney resorts.

We always stay at the Residence Inn at Lake Buena Vista. Very nice. We always get upgraded to the family suite. Free breakfast and weekday meals help keep our costs down. Nice heated pool, too.

This OP wants universal studios/IOA - not Disney WDW.

now the middle area seaworld can recommend the marriotts. middle area is between WDW and US/IOA

I enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn Maingate/Universal, Kirkman Road and Major Blvd. This was a few years ago, but if memory serves, they had no parking fee and no resort fee. (This may well have changed, of course.) The hotel was well maintained and I recall no issues with personal security. You can walk to Universal from the hotel.

My friend stayed at the Doubletree and said it was really nice....warm choco chip cookies every night in the lobby!:cool1: Right across the street from the parks.

Found this place on the net.Its part of The Choice Group of hotels. For $114 for 2 nights on Columbus Day weekend I was allitle scared. But after checking the room out I was very surprised at how spotless it was,no stains or bugs to be found. We got the 2 room king suite with a tv in each room, micro, sink and fridge.Very roommy.Free breakfast was not very good(to crowded).Pool was fairly nice but small, but it never got to crowded. The hot tub was just down right HOT.Staff very friendly. This hotel is very secure. You gotta have a room key to just get into the courtyard to go to your room and police patrols all the time. All rooms are suites and face the pool.Very close to I-drive,so walking to go shopping and or get something to eat is very easy with alot of choices for both. Also only about 11/2 miles from Universal.

So alll in all I would give it a solid 3 out of 5 for value of what you get.
We will return and tell others about it.hth
