Off property VS On Property....

What if the adult kids pay the difference in price for them? This is nutty. :confused3

I don't have a problem with staying offsite (we do it on trips with extended family), I just don't like to break up the group. It's even worse now since you can't book the FP+ attractions all together.

Add this one to the list: "We are going to go swimming at our resort pool. Sorry you guys can't come because only guests staying at the resort can enter the pool area. We'll take some pictures of the kids enjoying the pool and text them to you."

"That's okay, our offsite resort includes a spa, hot tub, pool with slides, pool with water features for the kids, a sauna, and has maybe 10 people in it. We let the kids know and we're picking them up in 10 minutes, because our resort lets us bring guests at no extra charge. You're welcome to come along with them! You can even drive because they don't charge for parking here!"

Why not list them in your hotel rooms (if you have room), one person in two different rooms? They will each have to pay $10/night, but then they won't have to pay to park, so that will cost them about $3 extra dollars a night ($17 per day for parking vs. $20 per night for extra adult room charges). Just ask for a parking pass when you check in.

They will also get free dining unless you are upgrading to regular dining. Then they will also have to pay the difference which is around $18/night per person. It's still a lot less than having to pay for all of your meals out of pocket. They will also have to purchase their tickets with the package, so if they have already purchased them, then this won't work.

If you have room for them, then they will just be listed on your rooms but not staying there. To me that solves all of your problems of doing EMHs and booking FPs 60 days out.

Hope whatever you decide that everything works for you and you have a wonderful vacation!

Where you able to find a condo for $50 a night?

Some people can sniff out these deals but I'm not one of them. I pay more than $50 for a crappy motel room in the middle of BFE. Anything less than that would turn out to be a crack den.

Yes, that would work only if you had two extra spots for them.

Good luck with your plans and I hope this all works out for you!

It's actually really easy: You just go to homeaway.com or vrbo.com, search for a home in the area that you're interested in, and sort the results by price.

A PP mentioned, and I will plug also, Bonnet Creek Resort. It'a Wyndham time share. You can get it super cheap on the secondary market, or book directly with WBC. That route costs a little more, but you have a 3 day cancellation option. The property is in the wedge that Disney couldn't get a hold of, just north of I-4. When you check in they may offer a discounted something for listening to the pitch. Tell them no. Done.

We had a two bed, two bath condo with balcony, $100/night, spring break. You can see the top of Spaceship Earth and catch a few fireworks.

I agree about the group being split up. That's a bummer. But if her dad relishes space, staying in a value probably isn't going to make him very happy even if the price is the same because someone covers the difference. I know you mentioned free dining, but have you considered renting points to stay DVC if you really want to stay onsite? Is it feasible to rent adjoining DVC rooms?? I'm honestly not sure. I felt cramped with my husband and 4 year old in a deluxe room.

But how will he park at the hotel? Parking is for resort guests only, or those who have reservations for dining at the resort which isn't an option at a value, obviously. Unless you tell them that it is your car, he can't park there. They can (and do) check and tow car who are not supposed to be parked there. Seems that will up the cost a bit...

I noticed that too...how will he park at a resort where he is NOT a guest? All the resorts have a guard and a gate.

He tells them that he is visiting his family.

They will tow him if he parks in the lot and isn't a registered guest of the resort. If he parks there and rides the Disney shuttle to the park with the family, when they return in the evening, there is a good chance that he will return to a lot where his car is no longer parked.

While that could happen at a deluxe resort, the chances of it happening at a value resort are slim to none.

Or the OP could just ask for a parking pass and give it to her dad.

He feels that its saving them more money... I think for him it about space somehow...

We are going in Dec with the hopes of Free Dinning if it comes out I don'e really see it a much of a financial savings when there are going to be 10 of us and you now have to account for transportation.

For me I like the feeling of being emerged in the disney atmosphere,
* I like dinning plan and now having to cook or worry about if the place I have chosen to eat is any good or not. I know the one restaurants at Disney I like.
* I like the transportation DME and all the other ones to parks and resorts
* I like Booking my Must Dos...

Dad has only done disneyland and for him it a go do leave kind of thing. Mom is the one who loves it and I think he is keeping her from having "this" kind of experience. as they have always stayed off property when at DL.

Can't get him to understand they are two very different kind of experiences especially now with the FP+ and MDE introduced.

Do you think he'll let you explain to him more of the benefits? I know that I was completely against staying on site (for us personally) because it was cheaper, at a beautiful location, had more room, and had no interest in a meal plan as I am 100% certain we would eat cheaper.

But then I started running some numbers when I realized we were going during free dining and though it was still just as expensive (more actually, but barely) to move on site it did give us the benefits you mentioned as well as allowed us to go to a whole mess of character meals that we wouldn't have otherwise.

This. I also have no problem staying offsite. I have done so in the past and we really enjoyed being able to spread out. However planning for a group like this is, at best, like herding cats. It really helps when ALL the cats are at the same kennel. OP, if your father stays offsite and you and your sister stay onsite that will simply add a whole other level of complexity to the trip that none of you need. Frankly, I think you are both being stubborn. I would recommend that you select ONE place for your extended family: onsite *or* offsite. If your dad is really worried about the cost, then the rest of the family should kick in for the difference and you should all stay onsite. Conversely, a nearby 5-bedroom pool home would be ideal with private bedrooms for each adult pair and rooms for each set of kids. Here is one for just $1043 for the week (plus taxes and fees, so probably about $1300 when all is done): http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p3558273. That's just $435 per family. Compare that to the $950 per family you are paying now (even with a 15% discount) that leaves $465 for rental car and parking.

It's really hard to come up with an apples to apples cost comparison because no off site locations provide the same amenities and environment of a Disney resort.

I guess it comes down to more private living space vs convenience and amenities of a full service resort. We do both types of vacations but for Disney I prefer the resort experience. The room where I sleep may be cramped but everything I need- pools, bars, restaurants, shops, entertainment, activities and transportation -is right outside my door.

I've seen them tow at All Star Sports and Art of Animation on two different trips. I wouldn't risk it. And besides that fact, it is unethical...

As for parking at the resort- my parents live in FL and when we stayed at POFQ, we didn't have a rental car. So I went to the front desk and explained that my parents felt safer meeting us at the resort each day, and could I use my allocated parking pass for them. They said of course you can, and just asked for the license plate number of the car for the parking pass.

It was no problem, I wasn't cheating anybody and the resort was perfectly fine with it.

How do you know why they were towing the cars? It's not unusual for people to have car trouble on vacation.

And there is nothing unethical about asking for a parking pass.

Well, seeing as how there was no one out there but a Disney worker and the two truck driver, we assumed. I suppose you are right that we have no proof that is was people parking there who weren't supposed to.
