Where and why (If you know the reason)

Lancaster PA.

Went to visit my grandparents at their retirement community. Nothing but Amish/Menonites there :confused3 We spent the week in their community pool because there was nothing to do!

P.h.u.k.e.t (It actually blanked it out!), Thailand. Google it if you're curious, beautiful beaches... weird nightlife. Definitely not DIS friendly.

Rented a canal boat and cruised the Eerie Canal from Syracuse to Rochester NY, then from Rochester down to Seneca falls and back to Syracuse in a week....... after only an hour lesson on how to pilot the boat.:goodvibes

Rothenberg. Germany

It has the Crime and Punishment Museum.

Comanche Texas. We actually vacationed there many times since that is where my grandmother and aunt both lived.

We always went in August since that was when my grandmother's birthday was, it was always hot, there was nothing to do and we stayed at the one and only motel and it was pretty much a pit. I remember having to kill more than a few scorpions in that place. :scared1:

I remember ds and I sitting outside one day and thinking "this place must look a lot like hell".

For sure I loved my granny to go stay at that place for my vacation for the first ten or so years of my marriage! I miss my grandmother and aunt terribly but don't miss having to go there on vacation!

Kalahari Desert, Botswana and Namibia
we were on a safari-facinating!!!

We went there this past summer and I found it very interesting. Though after a day I can see what you would mean. We only drove over for the day from Baltimore.

I think the oddest place that we went to was the Outer Banks of NC. Mainly because we didn't research it and we just drove through looking for something, anything to do. It was not what I expected at all. I'm sure if you checked into it, it could be better.

Also, we went to Jekyll Island once and it wasn't what I expected either. We stayed at a nice place but the beaches were awful. The only place we could find to eat at on the island was Denney's. No plans to go back there, ever.

Linares (de Riofrio) in Spain...

I don't know if I'd actually consider it "odd"...but it was different than any other place I've ever vacationed. Family friends have a vacation home there. It's a very small village (or at least it was when i was there in the late 80's--haven't been there since so I don't know if it's changed!) in Spain sort of near Salamanca. In the mornings I'd wake up by Rooster Crow and it was not at all uncommon to see donkeys walking down the raod or heards of goats... just peaceful, village living... :)

I think the oddest place we ever visited was Chincoteague -- the island off of Virginia. Ever since I was a horse-crazy kid and read the book, Misty of Chincoteague, I was dying to go there. So on our honeymoon, we made a side trip out there. As my dh is fond of saying, "We never saw one pony. But we did see LOTS of pony poop."

Wow, I didn't know you could do that. I have a long-time interest in canals.

Was it fun?

Indianapolis. It ended up being one of my favorite vacations, though - we had a blast!

We stayed in the Crowne Plaza at Union Station in an old train car. The beds were soooo comfy and they give you sleeping masks, lavender lotion, and a CD to play while you go to sleep. We were in the Rudolf Valentino room. Very cool.

We went to the zoo and the children's museum, which is huge and had a really nice exhibit of Dale Chihuly art glass.

We wandered downtown and ate at Weber Grill and some other fun little places.

It was just a lot of fun.

When I was 10 I was dragged to DC with my family so my father could ask a politician to call off the FBI from bugging our house and following him.

You would think that's my craziest story, but it's not.

As an adult I don't do odd, I've had my fill for a lifetime

Paris, Tennessee. We went there to visit my great-grandmother and great-grandfather.

We did get to see Fort Donelson, and we went swimming in the Tennessee River.
We went every year for six or seven years, so it got old pretty quickly, and there was nothing else to do.

Vancleave,MS

Went for my daughters softball team and watched them win the Dixie World Series. Also found The Shed, the best BBQ I have ever eaten.

A place called Balnarring which is about 3minutes from our home. We go camping here at least once, usually twice a year. Its handy because we can pop home to feed our animals and if we forget anything, we dont have far to go. It sounds silly, but once we are there, you would never know. The kids have a ball and really, we could be anywhere.
