Odd start to our Disneyland trip

So we were at the DLR staying at the GCH from 5/8 thru 5/12.

We had a not so fun start.

We took a cab from SNA to the hotel. The Cab driver was very nice and talkative, asking my daugher about how many trips to DLR she has made. Here favorite ride etc.

We noticed in traffic he kept driving on the shoulder, until we discovered he was trying to block a motorcycle from passing us. The motorcyclist finally got around us. He made some comment that if he hit the motorcycle it wouldn't be his fault. This is after my wife made the comment that I ride a motorcycle.

Then at the hotel the GCH Valet's were directing him where to park, the valet motioned for him to move up a little more and he gunned the motor and almost hit the valet. The two got into a heated arguement.

My wife grabbed our daughter and hopped out of the cab and made a beline for the curb. She told one of the other Valets to please help me, and that she wanted to get our daugher out of there.

Obviously the cab driver was the instigator in the entire event, but I think the valet should have called the police and not had a verbal fight in front of a guest.

I paid the cab (no tip).

That is very strange. Sounds like someone who doesn't really like his job very much.

Try not to let it put a damper on the rest of your trip. Maybe when the adrenaline wears off, you will be able to laugh about it. If nothing else, it's a good story!

Yes, this, exactly. If you remember the name of the cab company & provide them with an approximate time & description (if you don't know the driver's name), you should definitely give the cab company a call. Worst that could happen is that they don't take disciplinary action, though from the sound of what happened that driver's probably had numerous complaints against him. Someone who behaves like that doesn't even belong driving, let alone being paid to drive others around

Ack!!! Just another reason to use Super Shuttle or one of the services that is trying to get repeat customers! glad you made it in one piece! I guess you are all prepped for the bumper cars in Bug's Land!

I agree with the "report him to the cab company" people. Someone like that should not be on the road and certainly shouldn't be driving for a living. He's going to injure or kill someone.

I've seen a lot of aggressive cab drivers but there's a big difference between protecting your space and actively threatening people with your vehicle.

Sorry you had a rough experience! This so reminds of my days living in NY city! Let me tell you about the time I was in labor with my first child and had to take a cab to the hospital. Oooweee! Talk about Mr. Toad's Wild Ride with contractions!

see, drivers in LA are very passive aggressive. (can we say right turns vs left turns? how drivers dont know how to turn right and how they come to a complete stop in the driving lane so they can take their sweet time turning right, but as soon as you get that green left turn light, if you aren't already turning before the light changes green, expect to be honked at). and oh yea, the drivers who'll tailgate you for 5 miles on a completely empty highway -not even in the fast lane- because they want to stay driving fast in their lane despite the fact that all of the lanes around them are empty.

but in NYC, they will break every law and make your hair turn gray without batting an eye. stop signs, red lights, crosswalks, and shoulders are there for guidelines, but they don't actually mean anything.

so sorry that happened. i think, universally, cab drivers are iffy. but like others said, it's over. you can take the super shuttle or slightly cheaper Red Van back. enjoy your trip!

We got there a day before you I'm sorry for your lousy start. We lucked out at the Fullerton train station with the best cab driver ever. He was retired from some pretty high up job and just liked to keep busy. Very interesting guy, from Louisiana and told us some great stories and how he was debating on moving back, etc. Really an unusual experience. Hope your Disney time and your ride leaving was better!
