I think people lose sight of youth sports. The object of any game should not be about winning but rather learn how to compete in a team situation. It is also important for children to make friends along the way. My son has played hockey for 11 years and he still remembers one of his first coaches. At the beginning of every game Coach McPherson would ask, "What's rule number one?" The answer was always, "To have fun."
I really think parents put too much emphasis on winning. Let's face it, we are talking youth sports!! How many of these kids will play the sport in high school? Even fewer will play in college!!
A week from now, ask your child what the score was in the game and they probably won't remember! It's the adults that get caught up with the score!
This is just my honest opinion. I'm sure others will disagree, but that's why I like the DIS so much!
