OK, so not one to rant and rave or question MS all the time. I understand different cast members will just do things differently. But, while booking my vacation for next year, everything went fine with the transaction, good CM and very polite. Near the end of the transaction she asked what credit card we would use for incidentals (on our vacation in Aug of 2012?). Figuring she was just speaking of something like Visa/Mastercard, etc...I told her Visa, than she asked for the card number. I declined to give it, which she readily accepted and moved on...but I have never been asked this and I even just booked a trip two months ago for October of this year.

Is this one of those prompts on their screen that most CM's bypass? She was much more thorough of asking if we were interested in every option (trip insurance, tickets, etc etc etc).

It's a new-ish "standard operating procedure"...no clue why...but MS started this around the time of the computer "upgrade" about this time last year)...they ask for your credit card online, too--but don't "demand it," just ask. If you say no, it's fine.

I found it a bit offputting when I first encountered it, and have since just gotten in the habit of not giving my credit card, not even at check-in. I use my credit card for purchases (which helps me to remember to ask for available discounts)...

I know some people like the convenience of using their KTTW card to charge things, but I don't find it particularly inconvenient to carry my CC along w/my KTTW--and since I'm carrying multiple cards for discount purposes anyway, it makes no difference...

I do find it offputting to be asked for my CC for no apparent reason at the time of booking...but at the end of the day, it's no big deal. And if it makes life more convenient for someone else, it's fine w/me...

When I booked our upcoming vacations (about a week ago?), MS did ask me for a credit card to cover incidentals for our upcoming visit. I declined to give one.
Didn't seem like a big deal, but, you are right - I don't remember that happening when I simply made a point reservation.

If I added DDP, etc., I did need my credit card, if I recall correctly. Not 100% on that, though. It's been awhile since I did that.

Yes, that is how I took it...just strange because I have not been asked before (including since the computer upgrade). Which is why I was wondering if it was something that is normally bypassed by the CM's or something new. I didn't really care since they just bypassed it without hesitiation...just struck me as odd.

I was asked if I wanted to put it on file when I booked about a month ago for next April. I just said no, I don't know which credit card I will want to use then.

this just happened to me last week when i changed an existing reservation. the previous ressies never asked. didnt bother me, just was odd. i went ahead and put cc on file since thats what i will be using while down there anyway

I was asked for a CC for my last trip that I just booked. They didn't demand it just asked if I knew what card I was using and if I wanted to put it on file. I said no thanks, not certain what card we'll use yet and it was left with her commenting that I could put a CC on advanced check in if I wanted and nothing more was mentioned.

For the past 2-3 months or so that has become a pretty standard question even if you call just to modify a reservation or do something like add ME.

I've been asked by MS to add my CC to the reservation many times, and have declined. I've found when I give my CC on even on line checkin, everyone gets "valid for charging" on their key. I don't want that.

This is another policy change, like on line check in to reduce Disney's contact time at the Front Desk. According to some CM's the goal is to check your ID and let you go on your way. Are you starting to notice the vacant check in positions at the Front Desk?

exactly

Well, I wonder if they started doing this because of the credit card scam at OKW last year where a CM was caught using a phony credit card swiper to steal peoples' credit card numbers. I know there was a thread about it. It was from early summer 2010.

I called last month to make an adjustment and was asked if I wanted to put a CC on file. That was the first time I was asked that question. I would prefer to do it at check in so I didn't give MS one.

Everytime I have to call MS for something they always ask me if I want to put a CC on file, this is usually the last question the CM asks me during my call, I always thought this was standard proceedure. We have only been DVC members for a year now and even when I was making my plans for our May 2011 trip, they still asked if I wanted to put a CC on file. I always decline and just do it while doing online Check-In.

IF I can do online check in, I'll add my CC # then, otherwise I wait until check in...

I was asked to put my CC # on file when i paid for dining. I declined. I would imagine it would speed up the check-in process if you do want your CC attached to your KTTW card. If you do online check-in then i guess you would need to do it ahead of time to keep from waiting in line.

In order to get express check out, you have to attach a credit card to your KTTW card, right? Tha would be the only reason for me to give a credit card. We don't charge stuff to our room.

Disney has a problem with CC scams. Just a few weeks ago a member of my family called and made reservations through CRO and within a week they got a call from their CC holder questioning charges that were made all over the east coast. It was the only time they have used this particular CC recently and it had a zero balance on it. They called Disney and talked to a supervisor to report the incident and she said she would report it to security but they have no faith that it was taken care of.

I have never been asked by MS for my CC# unless I was adding the DP to our reservations and I will never put one on file. We have decided that we will not put charging privileges on our card either and will just carry our card with us. As stated earlier, I carry other cards with me so not a big deal to just carry a CC with me in the parks.
