Octuplet Grandmother....WOW!

I think the whole thing is a scam, and Grandma is in on it. Litter Mom has umpteen babies; media steps in; Grandma says no more-get out; America, interest piqued by the scandal, opens its poketbooks and reality TV obsession to Litter Mom; Litter Mom gets rich and suddenly Litter Mom and Grandma reunite, happy and rich without work.

But how many eggs do they get in that initial harvesting? Fourteen babies have resulted from 12 eggs. She said she had all 6 of the remaining eggs implanted because only one egg had "taken" during the first 5 implantations, and 2 with the sixth. If they had only implanted 2 eggs for the first 6 pregnancies, that would be at least 12 eggs, plus these 6...18 eggs. Do they really harvest that many eggs in a cycle? Yes, I understand it involves ovary stimulation, but still...that many eggs would result? :confused3 AND all end up fertilized? But that's just it...SHE didn't do it alone. She did it with the help of medical professionals.

It really depends on the person. I can tell you that we did two IVF cycles and both times we got about 24-26 eggs harvested. From those, we ended up with about 14-15 fertilized. It doesn't end there, though because they watch them for a few days (3 - 5 usually) before they implanted back and some don't develop. From the 14-15 fertilized eggs there were 5-6 that were actually still growing after that time period. In both cycles we ended up with two that were good enough to be transferred. None of the others made it to the point where they could be frozen. Our first cycle failed and our second took (YAY!) but we only ended up with one child (YAY!).

Now, a good friend of mine also went through IVF (same doctor) and her situation was much different. She hyperstimulated (which means that her ovaries reacted to the medicine very strongly and she actually ended up in the hospital because of it. They got something like 60 eggs from her that cycle but only half of them fertilized. She only had two embryos put back and they only ended up with 9 that were good enough to freeze. She got pregnant and used the frozen ones a few years later to have another child.

I suppose it is possible that my friend's experience is what happened to this woman and she ended up with a LOT of frozen embryos. However, at our practice they thaw them in groups of three (knowing that one or two might not survive the freezing/thawing process) so they are still only putting one or two back. The only time I've ever heard of more than that being used was on TV once and the woman had 4 put back because she was in her eary 40's.

Anyway...That is probably more than you really wanted to know.

Her trout mouth maybe?

lol about the troutmouth! :lmao:

Did anyone else notice that in an earlier photo of the mom on the site that did an "investigation" of the inside of her home, she didn't have troutmouth?

If this picture is from when she was pregnant with the "octopod" :) then somewhere in between when it was taken, when she was bedridden & popped them out (so to speak :lmao: ), and when she got out of the hospital, she had time to go to the plastic surgeon to get a buttload of collagen shoved into her lips.

Hmmm....

Yes, people have been saying she's had her lips injected(obviously lol)and a nose job.

Wow. The mom is delusional. I haven't seen any of the interviews prior to this one but WOW. She is a crazy. I hope the kids get taken by CPS and put into good homes.

I might be totally wrong, but doesn't it also look like she's had some plastic surgery, or at least some botox in her lips? I think she's using these children to get rich and it's really sad. I think if she makes a penny from this, she should have to pay back the public assistance I'm sure she's been receiving.

I thought so, too! Really creepy Angelina wannabe...:scared1:

I was thinking both of these things. Totally creepy! :scared:

No, not at all! I find it fascinating. Thanks for all the info. :) Congratulations on your child!

I had cramps every month when I ovulated, sometimes worse than 'other times' of the month. I can't imagine popping off that many eggs!

Still, this woman would have had to have gotten at least 18 viable eggs that survived, through all the processes. That seems awfully high (coming from someone who knows nothing about any of it. ).

So, if she ended up with 14 children as a result of 7 different implantations, this thread wouldn't exist (assuming we became aware of the situation)?

I don't think so. This particular thread seems focused on the number of children she already had plus the new ones and the hardship that is creating for the grandmother. Whether she had one implantation or 6 is immaterial to the topic of this thread.

The issue in this thread is the total number of children she now has.

So, if she only had 4 more children instead of 8 (total 10), everyone would be fine with it?

I disagree with you. The only reason she got attention was because she had octuplets.

Thanks! Our daughter was also fertility treatments, but pills only so it wasn't quite as difficult! We always joke that test tubes make beautiful babies when we look at our son. :)

It sure can be QUITE uncomfortable. I mean when you think of all those eggs on those tiny ovaries, it can get pretty sore. My friend who hyperstimulated and ended up in the hospital had HUGE problems. There were so many eggs that you could actually SEE the spot where her ovaries were from the outside. She was in severe pain and dehydrated. For me it was just sore. A pain, but manageable.

See, there is another question that I have about the Grandmother. She HAD to be somewhat complicit in what her daughter was doing because in order to do an IVF cycle there are many morning visits to the doctor for monitoring and blood work. I was going almost every day for the 2-3 weeks leading up to my egg retrieval and SOMEONE had to be watching the other kids!

Are you following the Caylee Anthony story at all? How did that mother live with her parents, telling them she was going to work, when she didn't actually have a job for two years?? Some people are really good at lying, and some people are blind to the lies.

Spokesman says octuplets mom receives food stamps
By SHAYA TAYEFE MOHAJER, AP

LOS ANGELES -The California mother of octuplets already receives food stamps and disability payments to help feed and care for her six other children.
Publicist Mike Furtney said Monday that Nadya Suleman receives $490 a month in food stamps.
She also receives disability payments for three of her six previous children, but Suleman did not want to disclose the nature of her children's disabilities or the nature of those payments.
In an interview that aired Monday, Suleman told NBC "Today" show anchor Ann Curry that she does not receive welfare.
Suleman's octuplets were born Jan. 26 in a Los Angeles area hospital.
Furtney says that in Suleman's view, the payments are for her family's legitimate needs.

I posted in the wrong thread. Now that I'm in the right one. Do you think that the Grandpa could be the Father of the kids?

The Anthony's are another perfect example of a family that have a much deeper story. I do not feel sorry for those people one bit. They knew their daughter had problems, just like they knew their daughter never wanted that child and they talked her into keeping her. Had they stayed out of it and allowed her to give her up for adoption in the first place that child would be happy and ALIVE instead of dead. They are just as much responsible for that little girls death as anyone else.

That was awfully harsh. If the mother did kill that little girl, she is the only one responsible for her death. The only one. I have a real problem with trying to spread around the blame. Something I tell my students all the time, "You are responsible for YOU. Nobody can make you do something." The parents may have encouraged her ot keep the baby, but they didn't make her. They did not make her kill that poor child, and blaming them for her actions just attempts to negate her responsibility for her actions.

I cannot believe that she lied in front of millions of viewers saying that "she does not receive welfare, not that there is anything wrong with other people receiving it" her exact words.

And here she herself is receiving $490 a month in food stamps in addition to receiving disability payments for 3 of her 6 kids.

I dunno. After hearing her mom(kids grandma) say that the father is the same father to all her kids, loves her and that it is her daughter who does not want to marry or be with him, I concluded that the reason behind it could be so she can continue getting welfare and disability payments on all her kids (probably easy to get if unmarried). I think this is all planning on her part.:surfweb:

The grandmother can't kick them out-it's the mom's (Nadya's) house. The parents lost their home and moved in with the daughter and the kids.
The mother is a complete enabler just looking for her 15 minutes.
If that was my mom trash talking me on the radio/news I'd kick her out:scared1:
But, that wouldn't be an option in this situation as she needs her mom to help care for these kids. But I'd still be really po'd.
God bless those kids- and give that nutty mom the strength she's going to need to raise them all.

According to Nightline, the house belongs to the parents. In fact, they played a piece from an interview where Nayda thanked her parents for letting them live with them. The mother said they had never received any rent or any financial help from Nayda at all. In fact, she knew that her daughter had received some type of financial settlement, but never knew how much it was until she heard it on the news. Nayda never used it for anything such as food, although she does like to buy expensive toys for the kids.

You didn't respond to any of the comments about farming the kids out to good homes. Do you have any difference of opinion after hearing the opposing points?

I'm not trying to call you out, but I'm very interested in hearing the "other" side.
