We were at DL last year during the second week of October, after Columbus day. Tuesday and Wednesday were great, but Thursday and Friday were extremely busy.

We were told that some So. Cal. school districts were off those two days, the 13th and 14th. Does anybody know if those schools will be off again this October during that week?

We are scheduling a short DL vacation in Oct. and would like to avoid those larger crowds again. Maybe the 3rd week in the month would be better?

We were there those same days last year (some WA schools were off that weekend for 4 days). It was crazy busy. But I think it had more to do with the 50th, then the local schools. Most of the S. CA schools are on a track system. They go year round, and have a few weeks off here and there through out the year. There is almost always a group out. The 3rd weekend of the month you will be dealing with the crowds of people coming for the special halloween events.

I don't know about ca. schools, but all utah schools are out for U.E.A on oct.12 & 13.Many Utah families go that time of year.We were going but DH is going on a business trip that week.Oh well, maybe we'll be thankful we aren't there at that time.

Most schools have Columbus Day off and some have a fall break around the last week of October.

Yes some are off track during that time for year round schools, but for regular season schools there are no holidays at that time. Sounds like most of the crowds were from out of area.

heres an example of my our local school district year round schedule:

and one for the regular school year:

here's the calendars for Anaheim's district:

hope this helps.

HI,

I will be there Sept 27,28 and 29. I saw the calendar. It was confusing to me. I saw sept those days, and it said trimester ends. Does that mean they are out of school? Are the DARK colored days days IN SCHOOL or DAYS OFF OF SCHOOL??

please let me know, becasue I am wondering what to expect re the crowds.

thanks

I'm in Northern CA and this year my son has Friday Oct 13 off. We are on a traditional calendar (Sept-June) not year-round.

There are hundreds of districts in SoCal.

We're off the 2nd week of Oct. 1 of the other districts in my city has that same week, and the other 3 districts are the first week of Oct.

Many areas have their own school districts - some are year aroung and that means there is always a group of students off at all times - too confusing to figure out who is off when. Then you deal with short days - moving of holidays to accomodate internal things - etc. Some schools do not get Columbus day off - AND then you have the universities and colleges - all with different schedules - some on quarter system some on semester - this is all too complicated in So Cal with so many schools, colleges, and universities.

Generally - the tourists are gone so things are pretty light.

Some schools have regular inservice days (early dismissal on a certain day of the week every week). Our school ends it's trimester around that time which means early dismissal or no school on Thurs/Fri of the week for parent/teacher conferences. We don't have any holidays around that time, but we are one school of 10 in our district and there are HUNDREDS of districts around here.
Good Luck! Andrea
