So we're offically planning our first DL trip for October of this year.

How are the crowds at that time of year? Also how is the weather?

October is Halloweentime and some days are very busy. Others reportedly are not. There are holidays (see "List of American Holidays" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1937849
), special school breaks for Utah schools, and gay days in early October, all of which contributes to crowds.

Halloweentime has, in the past 3 years, become one of DLR's biggest holiday celebrations! With Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion having special Halloween themes, plus the special Halloween fireworks and all of the decorations...this has also led to an increase in crowd levels, especially on weekends.

And although weekend crowds are much higher than weekday crowds, you will want at least one weekend day at the parks so that you can see the fireworks/Fantasmic that usually don't play during the week in October. By planning and reading tips from these boards, you can weave around crowds pretty well.

Weather is usually pretty good during October (sunny and relatively warm), but with weird So. Cal weather patterns recently, it's hard to tell.

Oh, also be warned that there may be a ride or a couple rides down for refurbishment during October. As it is still kinda "offseason", this is the time when DLR decides to close their rides for maintenance.

FYI - UEA or Fall Recess as they are calling it this year will be October 20 & 21.

I went in 2009 about a week before Halloween. The weekdays were actually pretty pleasant crowd-wise. Friday night was crazy busy. Walking like a normal person was not possible in Adventureland or New Orleans Square -- literally had to shuffle along. Not fun!!

Last year they moved the Halloween Party from DCA to DL. Assuming they do the same this year, you'll have to pay extra if you want to see the fireworks.

I was there Oct 2nd to 10th last year, and found the crowds to be heavy but manageable. So long as you hit the rides that you want to do before noon, when it really starts to get crowded, take advantage of the Fastpass and Solo rider lines then I can't see it being a problem. The Mickey's Halloween Party is worth the money to experience, and the fireworks are worth the price of admission IMHO. DL at Halloween time is definitely something that if you have the means to go during this time, it's definitely a more festive feel, and has a different vibe than other times of the year. Wish I could go back to DL during Oct again.

We've done WDW twice in October, but don't know how DL compares crowd wise.

Has anyone been to both DL and WDW in October, can you compare the crowds? More than likely we'll be there the week of the 10th.

DLR will probably feel about the same, crowd-wise, during the week, but will certainly feel MORE crowded on weekends. I do hope that you plan for at least 1 weekend night so you can see Fantasmic and fireworks.
