October 7, 2006 Western "Latitude Adjustment Cruise"

Okay, never mind.....went to look at deck plans and our 2 rooms 2536 and 2538 are NOT connecting....the CM today said, "Oh, you got connecting rooms, that must have been why they changed you." I was so excited about that, too! Oh well, cannot beat a 3 category upgrade with a stick, so I better shut up! :)

Hi everyone! I wish we were still sailing with you guys in October. We came so close to actually going on our first cruise only to have to cancel, darn it. Maybe someday we can still make our way to the Magic! I hope you all have a wonderful time with no storms in your way! Please write trip reports when you get back so I can at least experience the cruise through your eyes.

I have four adult bracelets if anyone still needs any. I can mail them off to who ever would like them. Just send me a PM!

Happy sailing to you all!!!
Hi Liz! It's good to hear from you. Thanks for the well wishes. Maybe someone will write a trip report. I'm not much of a writer. I'm taking my laptop, but have not decided if I will do a "Live from..." thread or not. How is Laura and the rest of the family? Drop in again soon!

:Pinkbounc :grouphug: Thanks for all the good vibes. This has been a trying year and we are so looking forward to these cruises. Deck 2 seems to be popular, probably because we're on it. Congrats to the upgraded, we've never been that lucky, although we paid $50 to get upgraded 2 categories over Easter. Won't be able to do it this time as we don't want to pack and unpack, rather be in the same room for both. Will make sure to be on deck ten to wave. See everyone soon.

:cool1: Help! We are trying to make plans for shore excursions, we know we want to walk around Key West(any good haunts to pursue there?) in Grand Cayman we would like to just go snorkling but really don't want to do a planned excursion, anyone know how or where we could do this on our own? On cozmel we would like to just go to a great beach, any one that can help us? Thanks. This discussion board has been alot of help. Can't wait till October! :Pinkbounc

On Key west we are just doing our own little self guided tour :cool1: ... check out www.keywest.com and there are many ideas. My Mother lived on Duval St. back in the early 1940's, a few years before I was born... we're going to try to find where she lived, also we plan to find the frozen key lime pie on a stick dipped in chocolate...and of course Margaritaville :drinking: Grand Caymen we are doing the Stingray City Observatory and Island tour and I think we are shopping on Cozumel. We're doing the Stingray Adventure on Castaway Cay.

Big Red, M&M and DH and I did some of our final shopping this afternoon... I'm ready to sail away!!!!! :sail: party:

Danzer,

Where did you shop? :confused3 I went to Peebles yesterday, and intended to go to Belk today after the soccer game but it didn't work out..... :guilty:

Cruise clothes on sale everywhere!!! :cool1:

Just returned from a quick business trip. Ran into a K-Mart in Pittsburg near my hotel looking for a tacky tropical shirt for my DH (I have a surprise bag of cruise goodies that I'm going to give him when he returns from his deployment). They had their Disney kids (5T and smaller) clothes on a BIG sale for those of you interested. The same was true for our K-Mart here in South Carolina when I checked there this morning. Only managed to find one tacky tropical shirt for DH though.
I also inquired at the airline ticket counter when I checked in and was told that you could pack liquids (i.e adult beverages) in your luggage as long as it is the bags you are checking. May want to wrap in plastic bags just in case though.
Finally got a chance to read all of the posts on this thread. Haven't heard from the Bad (or Sick...depending on your language of translation) Man in a while. Y'all still have him locked up? Have to say though, I won't be putting one of those speedos in my husband's surprise bag of cruise goodies. Actually I wouldn't mind seeing him in one, but I think he would object, he's funny that way.......
Counting the days!

Two burning questions on my mind this morning....

1. Has anyone received their cruise documentation/tickets in the mail yet? It is less than a month away and I haven't. Wondered if that were true for the rest of the troops. (I'm secretly hoping I haven't gotten mine because they are upgrading mine and trying to figure out the perfect cabin to put me.)

2. There are tons of kids on our cruise. Are you guys pulling your kids out of school? My first grader has 2 days of holiday due to Columbus Day but will still miss 4 days. (Bad Momma per School District) What are the rest of you doing.

THANKS. Dreamt of Disney cruising last night.

Good Morning Jamie and Tora... M&M and I did Ross' and Jacque Penne'! Ross' is my NEW FAVORITE place to shop. What bargains all the time. Tora, if you have a JC PENNEY near you, check them for cruise shirts... DH found three there for $3.97 each on final clearance.  He wears "Big and Tall", so that was a good find. Didn't see any speedo's... of course we didn't look for any... we're WAAAAAAAY over the hill for such... I can assure you no one wants to see him in one! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I"ve got about all I need now.. so hopefully I'm thru shopping. (Well, since Peebles is only two blocks away, guess I need to go there at least once!) :moped: Now to just sit back and count the days!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

1. We have not received our documents yet either.

2. Many of the group from Tennesee are teachers and most of them are on the new schedules, and have two weeks off in October. We have very short summer breaks here. Maybe M&M or Jamie will explain our schedule better. You are not a bad Mom.. travel is very educational. :rainbow:

I think having her miss 4 days of school, although unfortunate, will be worth it. We do plan to have her work on her writing by keeping a 'journal' every day and some other things. Plus, the memories will be priceless.

DS isn't of school age yet so no issue for him.

The first year we cruised I packed sketch pads, coloring pencils, watercolors, journals, etc. I thought the kids would really enjoy sitting on the verandah and painting the seascapes, sunsets, islands, boats, etc. :artist:

HA! They were barely out of the clubs long enough to eat and take a bath (not even sure if they did that daily  )

Coming from a 1st grade teacher, a journal is a great idea, but don't sweat it if it gets thrown to the wayside. ;)

Have a great day, everyone! :sunny:

Hi TexasGirl! My kids go to a Christian school that is modified year round so we have a two week fall break  However, I taught in public school for quite some time and had many students take vacations during the year. Most parents like you are concerned which tells me that you will do what you need to catch your children up. I would make an effort to catch up and make some great family memories!! :cool1:

About the socuments question we have not received ours yet either.

Lastly, I have a question. The last cruise we went on the wind on deck at night was really strong. Do you remember the romance scenes on "Love Boat" and the little breeze with the moon light? That's what I expected!! Boy they fooled me. I'm wondering of what we experienced was unusual or the "Love Boat" is really where it is at? Long story short, should we pack for cool windy weather at night?

At the minimum, there will be a "fresh breeze" (19-24 mph) across the deck, generated by the ships speed. We have experienced "near gale" (32-38 mph) and "gale force" (39-46 mph). We are talking deck 10 here, as deck 9 is fairly well protected. The breeze is stonger in places than others on deck 9, but comfortable. It is somewhat difficult for me to walk in gale winds, and I have a good size anchor! If we have good weather,(and we will :teeth: ) the winds will be the strongest on the nights we cross the gulf stream(first and last nights). That will also be when the ship moves the most. Windy or not, I don't recall it being cool. Wouldn't worry about being cool, though. If the wind is to strong, you won't stay out in it long.

Thanks Allen for the info! Has anyone else noticed that the online ressie's are practically grid-locked. I strong armed my dh into a pedicure, saying, "it's NOT just a girly thing I will do it with you!!" I got him a reservation and when I went back to secure the same time for me the reservation center is down!!! My dh will flip if I make him do this alone! I'm gonna keep trying till late into the night! :surfweb:

Texasgirl - My sister is taking her kids out for the week. They have had a rough year with my sister being sick and gone for 6 months of the last year. Everyone at their school totally understood and told them to have fun.

No we have not received docs in the mail except for the stuff we got a while back. It included a booklet about the cruise etc. I wasn't sure if we would receive very much considering you do the forms online.

Sabeking - Last sept on our cruise it was not too bad on the top decks. Dh and I walked around a lot at night after dinner. A couple nights we went to the hot tubs too which was really nice at night. I still had a black lite weight jacket with me most nights. The dining rooms to me were pretty chilly for dinner. I wore the jacket most nights in the dining rooms.

THANKS. Dreamt of Disney cruising last night.

We don't get our paperwork ahead of time, it's all waiting for us when we check in at the terminal.

Our children are 3 and 8 and they attend a private school so pulling them out isn't a big deal. The 3 year old will miss 2 days, and the 8yo will miss 4 1/2 days as we're pulling him at noon on Friday the 6th. He is generally pretty healthy and last year was only sick one day, so I don't mind pulling him out. He'll have to keep a journal of our trip, and we'll read every day, but other than that he won't have any work to complete.

I can't remember who asked about non-excursion ideas on page 37....

In Key West we've decided to spend most of the day on the ship. Key West doesn't really excite me much, but we will get off in the late afternoon so my husband can have some key lime pie! My mom and her husband are going to wing it and walk around for a few hours.

In Grand Cayman we're renting an SUV for the day so we can go to the beach (Seven Mile), maybe the turtle farm (did anyone ever get confirmation on the prices? the email I got from them stated it was about $60 per adult!), have lunch at a local restaurant and do a little shopping.

In Cozumel we are going to take a taxi to Paradise Beach.

It was me who asked about the non-excursions. I guess I need to know how to get to Seven Mile Beach and Paradise Beach. Taxi? Will there be some waiting at the dock? How much? Can't wait till October!
