October 5, 2008 Wonder Cruise!

My wife and I will be joining this cruise since we will finally be empty nesters. We will be the poor but happy people you will see onboard, since we will have two kids in college (DS 21 popcorn:: , DD 18 princess: ).

Always thought we would go to Europe to celebrate, but with the current exchange rate and our glut of DVC points :woohoo: it is cruisin we will go!! :woohoo:

Welcome aboard! :sail:

Don't feel bad about leaving them behind! DH and I went on our first Disney cruise in 2005 just a fews days after we dropped DS off at college for his sophomore year!

:guilty: DD18princess::guilty: is trying to lay the guilt trip on! She keeps bringing up the trips we have taken without her.:rolleyes1 Then she really got me by complaining we only take her to DisneyWorld.

18 is a very hard age for parents. Especially when said child hooks herself up with a prep school guy who will be off on his second overseas vacation this year.

I think I will really need this cruise:yay:

Hahaha! My DS told me he is Disney'd out because that's the only place we ever went on vacations! DH asked what about Colorado, Waterville Valley and White Mountains in NH or Burlington, VT and Portland, ME. Oh wait a minute :rotfl: Portland and Burlington were for hockey tournaments.

I totally agree about the age. I worried more when DS went away to Philadelphia for college than I ever did when he was in HS. Just remember, there are worse places that you can take your children than Disney World! :mickeyjum

I feel funny planning for a single day in October :lmao: but it beats thinking about work! So far, I think I will take my wife on a selfguided tour doing the following:

1. Walking Tour of Nassau
2. take a local bus to Adastra Gardens or check out the British Colonial Hilton.

Anyone else with plans??

Bob

Hi Bob! We are planning on doing horseback riding with http://www.windsorequestriancentre.com in Nassau. They are the only place that does horseback riding, seem to have good reviews on some other cruise boards and it fits in good for time too - I beleive they pick you up at 10:45 and we should be back by 2:15. Other than that, I don't think we'll be doing much in Nassau, but have heard that the Gardens are wonderful!

Well were planning on going to MNSSHP on October 9th. But I just canceled :sad1: our cruise. I think DS3 is too small to apprecaite it and I know he won't stay in kids club so we can even have dinner one night. So we will be waiting to next year when he is older and more mature. We do plan on going to Disney in October and staying at WL for a week instead. I was really looking forward to the cruise and so was DH.

We are thinking about the Pirate Museum. We decided against going to Atlantis due to the cost.

My DW and I will be celebrating our 33 wedding anniversary with our sixth “Wonder”ful cruise and then we’re back to the park for a few days. We’ll be using our DVC points for both the cruise and the stay at the park.

Now the waiting begins…

Annemarie - I thought I saw a post on the cruise board (maybe two or three pages in) about the Atlantis offering rooms for $119...Might want to check that out! (Or was it the Wyndham??)

Hi Coach! Welcome Aboard!

Nice to be back on the boards. It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. As you can see by my avatar I’ve been around here since 1999.
My DW and I did our first cruise back in 2000. It was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I remember, for dinner, we were seated with three other couples. Two of the couples were newly weds and the other couple were around our age, (mega-deep old!)”. The conversations at dinner were fun with us “older and wiser” veterans doing our best to explain to the youngsters the ups and downs of being together for the rest of their lives. Our conversations would have made a great skit for Saturday Night Live...

My DW and I hope to meet all of you come October.

We've booked our 1st cruise for Oct. 5 in category 11 with main dining. We'll have 2 DDs with us. They're 10 and 12. Actually, the 12 yo turns 13 on the 3rd day of the cruise and the 10 yo turns 11 the week after while we're at our DVC home (BWV) at WDW.

How many people do they usually seat together? Should we expect to be with one other family?

Looking forward to watching this thread from now on...I don't think I can go back and read all of the previous pages after reading 29 on the "tips" thread yesterday and today. :scared1:

Lora,

The most people that will be seated at a table would be eight. You could be seated with another family of four. As far as I know you can still request that your family be seated at there own table if you so wished.

During our past Disney cruises, this will be our sixth, my DW and I have had the chance to met some very nice people at dinner.

P.S. Make sure you tell DCL about your DD's birthdays.... they may get a surprise. Also, we'll be heading back to the park after the cruise. We are also DVC members and our home-away-from-home is also the BWV.

:welcome: Coach! Hockey used to be life for us but now DS is 22 and graduating college so hockey is over for us except for our DGS :thumbsup2 who also plays hockey and will be coming on this trip with us.

:welcome: Lora! :wave2: I will be celebrating a birthday :cake: on this cruise too! I'm not going to say which one though. :rolleyes1

During our past Disney cruises, this will be our seventh, my DW and I have had the chance to met some very nice people at dinner.

I'm actually looking forward to having dinners with another family. We get plenty of family time on our trips. I do enjoy meeting other people and this sounds like a fun way to do that.

I'll definitely include the birthday in the info. We've been to WDW a few times for their birthdays and it's always been special for them. You never know what to expect.

Hi Lora! Welcome aboard!

I can't believe that the cruise is almost here!

:rotfl: Since we just booked recently, I haven't had to wait as long!! We always book our next DVC stay around the same time of year as our trip (Sept/Oct), and then I don't think too much about it until the 6 or 7 month mark comes around. We had the idea of a cruise on the back burner for a while, but it took DH several months to come around. I think he's worried about getting sea sick!

I should have mentioned that DH is going with us ;) if you want to include him in the first post.

I've been preparing by reading lots of posts and trip reports. I actually bought my clear over-the-door shoe holder at Target the other day. :thumbsup2

How much luggage is allowed on the cruise? We have several nights after the cruise at BWV and we normally take a LOT of stuff for meals, etc. in the 1BR. I'll feel a bit silly coming on board with luggage for 2 weeks when the cruise is only 4 nights!

What you don't want to leave him at home? :teeth:

I know what you mean about so much luggage! We'll be on land for 10 days after the cruise! :scared:

You can bring as much luggage as you want too - but remember the guidlines if you're flying. Most airlines have decreased their luggage allowance to 1 checked bag, with a second bag costing anywhere from $10 to $25 PER bag, PER leg. (For example with us, we are flying CO - but are granfathered in luckly - if we wern't, we'd have to pay at least $50 down AND $50 back for our second bags!) :faint:

There is room in the cabin closet for two smaller bags on the right side of the closet and two larger bags on the left (depending on how much you hang up and how long they are) and you can fit at least two larger suitcases under your bed so I wouldn't worry about that. I think they let you take what you want...but like you to stay around two bags per person.

I have yet to buy our over the door - but am trying to pack light too. There are only two of us, so we may not need that shoe organizer...I do plan on doing laundry - but am debating on doing it on the ship or at the hotel when we are back on land...

The cruise portion of our honeymoon is officially paid off! It seems so real now!

How's everyone been? The sun is finally out in Ohio, so we've been having some beautiful days here. How about ya'll?

Hey! I don't get email alerts when we have new posts anymore.

It looks as if we are getting a crowd of cruisers.:jumping1:

We have not made any further plans for our cruise. We don't have the new addition to our family yet so we may postpone our cruise until next fall. :scared1:

I will try to check in more often and I will let you know if we postpone our cruise.

Yellowfish: I am sending you a PM.
