Has anyone found out anything about the fuel surcharge and our cruise? There is a long post on the main board (that I haven't read all the way through), but the gist of it is that they have now removed the fuel surcharge. Some people are saying that they are getting it back, others are saying they are not. I'm wondering if anyone from our cruise has done anything to find out if we are eligible or not.
If I get the chance, I might be able to call. If I do, I will post my findings here

DONE!!!!
I just called and I was able to get the amount of the fuel surcharge taken off!!!!
I did this for my room and my parents room. We saved $154 and they save $112.
That just made my day!

I called and they said I have to wait until Sept. before the cruise to see what the fuel costs are and if they are still low they will give me the difference as a ship board credit. I don't think it's fair that new bookings don't have to pay the fuel charge and we do. I rebooked on board so I also received a $200 on board credit so its not worth it to cancel and then rebook.

Hey all...I need to join the group:cool1: .

I just switched our 9/19 western to the 10/31 Halloween cruise. I originally booked the the sept. cruise because the rate was amazing (3200 for a family of 5 in 2 cat 12's), but I have felt a bit worried about pulling the kids out of school for a week at the beginning of the year.

I was trolling the DCL site and found this cruise for only $415 more, and the kids will only miss 3 days of school. My TA just switched us today and I am sooooooooooooooooooo excited:banana:  !

Can't wait to read the whole thread and get to know ya'll. Our party consists of me (Denise), DH, DD 10, DS 7 and DS 6.

The only unfortnate thing is we could not get main dining, bu we are on the waitlist. We'll make it work either way.

Now to go and change my ticker!

Hi, I know its been awhile since I checked in just a little update: Continental has now posted flights for our time frame that must mean we are getting close! I can't wait

I wonder if continental knows it is "jersey" week then. I just looked up fare for our week and the lowest was $480 round trip. The week before comes in at $228. That's a huge difference.

When I look it up for leaving Friday coming back Sunday, I still find it around 258 leaving out of Newark. Where are you flying from?
Hopefully, airfares will be great soon!
Bernadette

Our "Jersey" friends, whenever they can will drive to BWI airport and fly from there as they save several hundred dollars. If you live close enough this may be an option for you.

Never thought of BMI, I think it would be hike.
Philly is only about 15 minutes farther than Newark (plus much cheaper parking), so we always consider that. I want to look at Spirit since I hear they have great prices and fly out of Atlantic City. Apparently it is great to fly them because they are the only carrier out of there so they usually leave on time (or early).
My wife is 100% against this. She feels that if there was to be a problem, we would then be stuck at an airport with no other airlines to switch to and would miss the cruise. Opinions anyone?

We love Spirit Air out of AC:lovestruc  :lovestruc  :lovestruc
We Fly it any chance we get if it is the lowest fair. I woud never pay more for it but when it is close we grab it. The Airport is small and easy to get to (right off the AC Express Way.) We have never had a problem with them. The parking is much cheeper than Phily. The only caution that I will geve you is if you get the first flight out in the morning (I think it is arroud 7:00AM) to allow extra time for security, about the same you would allow for a "big" airport as there are three large flights that leave at the same time and they can get backed up.

:firefight

By the Way I was looking at Spirit last night for July 09 and saw $79 each way to Miami. I did not check if they had opened Octobet travel yet.

:firefight

Just remember that Spirit now charges per seat each way and for every checked bag. I loved flying Spirit since A.C. airport is 30 minutes from our house but after all the fees they started charging South West was much cheaper out of Philadelphia. The added fees alone for our family where over $200.00. During Jersey week this year Spirit never came down on their fares and it would have been $2000.00 for four people that week to Orlando. I am a member of their $9.00 fare club and still there was no deals for that week. If you book the big front seat on Spirit they do not charge for your seat.

WOW...a lot of Jerseyites on here. :) Myself included. :thumbsup2
We leave the night before and stay over in Cape Canaveral. That way we don't have to worry about delays the day of and end up getting to the terminal nice and early. And I whole heartedly agree about the comments on Spirit...they can be awesome (I flew down with my two kids to Orlando in June and paid $137 for the 3 of us...that's $37 per person). But of course you do have to add the add'l fees for EVERYTHING at this point. Southwest is my true favorite. No fees at all... We shall see how the rates go. We just booked the 3-night cruise in March (kids are free!!!) and got decent airfare...but of course, they're missing two days of school for it.

For southwest, do you fly out of Philly? We typically fly out of Newark, but Philly is not out of the question. Right now we are booked via DCL and it is coming out cheaper than switching to Continental on our own. I guess Continental realizes that it is Jersey week. For our week they want $450+, but the week before and the week after is $250+. We think Philly might be cheaper. My favorite is JetBlue, but they haven't released dates and prices that far out yet.

Last time I checked Southwest didn't go out of Newark. They do go out of Philly though, they haven't released dates yet either.

Yes, we fly out of PHL...I never book airfare through the cruiseline...you can usually find it cheaper on your own if you're willing to look around. Southwest has a lot of good deals down to Orlando. If you're closer to Newark, I think Atl city is probably out of the question, but that could be an option too... Good luck!!!
