October 30, 2011 Wonder - A Haunting on the High Seas

A few questions about the shirts.
1. I saw the pictures that you posted, is there a favorite of the group?
2. ANy preference on t-shirt color? I saw gray, any other suggestions?
3. How many people are planning to purchase a shirt?

I liked the one with the ghosts coming off the ship (the second where someone had tweaked the colors so you could see the ghosts better). I will definitely get some t-shirts and I think grey or black would be a good color for the shirts.

:cool2:

So I have now officially paid off the balance on the cruise! So now I only have to wait until August to book all my extras.

Y'all getting excited?:cheer2:

Congrats! What a great feeling! :woohoo:

Speaking of booking extras, here's a question for y'all - whats better, to book the extras (Palo, excursions, spa treatments, etc) before the cruise or to wait until you get on board? This is my first cruise and I am interested what you veterans think

I have had t-shirts made for a couple events before (bachelorette, etc) and the guy I use is pretty good and more than reasonably priced. I think what I am going to do is give him a sample design (I think the one of the boat with the ghosts coming off the top was talked about a lot?) and ask him what the quote would be for gray shirts for everyone on the list, so we can get an idea of the price. Then I will get back to the group and see what everyone thinks. I will have them printed closer to the cruise date so we can get a more accurate count, and I will bring them with me to the cruise so everyone can pick them up when we meet.

How does that sound?
Happy birthday Bob and happy anniversary to you both! I am glad you enjoyed yourselves! I am from the LA area so we go to Vegas pretty frequently. Yesterday we actually booked a stay there for the weekend on July 15-17. We are staying at the Golden Nugget (we love classic Vegas!) and we are planning to see Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian - so excited! How was Penn & Teller? Cirque de Soleil?

If you don't mind checking into the cost of the shirts and letting us know what the complete cost, including the shipping costs would be, that would be great. One DCL cruise I was on, with more then 250 cabins on the DISboards, someone handled taking orders for shirts, having them printed and mailing them to the cruisers. It was huge job for them to take on. The art work was also available for those who wanted to order their own or download and make their own using iron on prints. There are so few of us (as of now) so it is a bit different. Your a star for offering to take this on!

Thanks for the good wishes. I have seen the Phantom, but not in Vegas. I loved it, hope you do too. Penn and Telller was ok, I am not into magic shows, but Bob enjoyed it. Actually, I slept through most of it (I slept through Blue Man once too). The Love show was interesting, really enjoyed the music. I am not crazy about Cirque de Soleil so was ok with the fact it didn't have as much of the high wire stuff their other shows have, Bob was a bit disappointed. As you might have figured, this trip was really Bob's present and we went to things he wanted to do - that was planned so it was ok. We went to the VOODOO steakhouse at the top of the Rio one night. I had to send my steak back, it was so tough and covered with pepper. They were very nice and because I we didn't have time for them to fix another, they took it off the bill. I found that restaurant a disappointment.

Who is tracking the FE sign ups and changes??

There have been so few of us on this thread, 5 cabins, I have just kept a list and posted it now and then. I can create a Google spreadsheet and post it. If someone else wants to do this, that would be great too.

I can't speak to the spa treatment as I only use the gym. I can tell you I have seen special offers made for different spa treatments while on board. However, if there is something you really want, like the couples treatment, I'd book it before. I would definitely book the excursions and Palo's before. You can cancel up to 3 days before the cruise (check on the 3 days to be sure) with no charge to you. I have never seen excursions nor Palo's offered at a reduced price onboard. I have seen excursions and Palo's reservations filled, especially the brunch and tea. That said, I don't think this cruise is very crowded yet and you might have no problem booking onboard, but why chance it. Just my opinion.

Here is the list I've put together of those who have said they are on the cruise and not since said they have cancelled. It is just a casual collection I made from the postings so it may not be accurate or complete. We haven't heard from some in a while. I have not asked about cabin numbers.

I just checked the availability of cabins on our cruise and found the following:

Category R is not available. So anyone waiting for a courtesy upgrade to the Walt or Roy suite, I am afraid you are out of luck.

We had the pleasure of visiting those suites on past cruises. They are magnificent:

There a cabins available in all other categories. Only 11C, the lowest standard inside stateroom, and 4E, the lowest deluxe family ocean view stateroom with verandah, are GTY. As of now, it looks like we will be far from full.

My DH and I are hoping for a port upgrade to a verandah stateroom so I was scared when the kids sail free offer came out as that is what has to be booked. I am a little sad that there will be no pixie dust to the Walt E or Roy O suites :rotfl:

I check every day to make sure there are still suites as we are still in GTY status for our 11c cabin.

Hey guys!!

  • I vote grey shirts! I think a dark grey would look amazing! Like slate? But I'm totally open to a light grey too!
  • What is GTY? I'm so confused on that.
  • Definitly reserve Palo prior to boarding. I would do the same for popular excursions like dolphin swims as well.
  • Also about the shirts, I would want to make sure that whatever shirt is ordered, there will be a size large enough for Vince, he's roughly a 5x..
  • I'M SO EXCITED FOR OUR CRUISE!

You are assigned as GTY when you can not select a specific stateroom but there are still available space on this ship. Sometimes you are upgraded, one couple I know who were GTY in a cat 11 were upgraded to a cat 4. I have been a GTY cat 6 and was assigned a cat 6, no upgrade but a room. You are guaranteed never to be downgraded.

"Sorry, there are no Category 11C staterooms available for selection at this time. You may either change the stateroom category or accept a guarantee (GTY) stateroom. Selecting "Accept Guarantee" guarantees the ship, sailing date and rate. A Category 11C stateroom will be assigned by the time documents are received. Selecting "Accept Guarantee" does not guarantee the stateroom will be on a particular deck or, for multiple staterooms, that the staterooms will be located near each other."

I agree the ghost ship looks good on a dark shirt. Here is an example

Is the upgrade free? Like a courtesy upgrade?

I have requested a quote from my t-shirt guy, hopefully he will get back to me today :)

To save everyone on shipping, I don't mind picking up the shirts myself and bringing them to the ship to hand out when we get there, I live in LA so its no big deal to bring them with me :)

I have my fingers crossed for some pixie dust and a free upgrade but am prepared to pay at the port to upgrade if available or sail in my inside stateroom as happy as a clam. I am on a Disney Cruise!

I know this isn't complete, but here is a list of some of the activities Disboard cruisers are planning on the Hawaii cruise and events DISboard members have organized on other cruises I've been on. If you are interested in doing any of them on our cruise or just curious about what they are, I'll be happy to try and get info for you.
