Hi Sarah,

Looking at the Qantas schedule, we'll have two hours in LAX before our flight to Orlando. We were thinking of stopping overnight, but I think we'd rather just get to our destination and relax.

Sydney's great - you would have had the best view of it: coming through Sydney Heads into the harbour on the ship. Nothing compares to that. Whereabouts are your family?

Ideally I will go 4 days pre cruise and go to MNSSHP, and 3 days after at Vero Beach. But I will probably have to pick one or the other! Don't think we can all get away that long.

We're hoping to do at least a few days at WDW before the cruise, but it's hard taking the kids out of school for too long. But when you spend at least $2500 (if we're lucky!) in airfare, you want to make the most from your trip!

This time next year, we'll be nearing the final stages of planning. Hard to believe it's already been 7 months since we booked. We still haven't told the kids - still too long away - but have started telling some family and friends. Getting some "You're going on ANOTHER cruise?", but since I am going on a Carnival cruise next week with my cousin and a friend on a "girls cruise", I guess the question is kind of justified! Really looking forward to comparing the two cruises, although already know that nothing can compare to the Magic! You know you are a Disney Cruise addict when you are going on a Carnival cruise, and one of the things you're excited about is seeing the Wonder in Nassau!

I mentioned a couple of pages back that I thought my family would be booking onto this cruise. Well..............I received the deposit $$ from my sister-in-law for her and her hubby, along with the instructions to DEFINITELY book this cruise for our family :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

So, one of the first things I'll be doing when on-board next month is booking this wonderful Double Dip :cool1:

There will be myself and my hubby -- we'll be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary while on-board

Along with us to celebrate are my DSIL (DH's youngest sister) and her hubby, as well as my DMIL. It will be my 3rd Disney cruise, my hubby's second, my DMIL's second cruise but first Disney cruise, and the first cruise ever for DSIL and her hubby!

Some of us are coming from Toronto (Canada), while others have a shorter trip -- from Indiana :)

It's going to be a GREAT cruise! :dance3:

Great News, 101DalmFan! Glad things worked out so that you can come on this cruise!

I have felt that very same way. We had to go on a carnival cruise for my dd dance team last year and it was horrible. I vowed never to do it again even if they dance. She agrees. She would rather go to WDW and not participate in dance than sail on carnival.

Oh Dear..Is Carnival THAT bad??
My parents are booked on The Glory whilst we are doing The Magic!(They didnt fancy Disney Cruise!)
Should I try(AGAIN) to change their minds??
Bear in mind they are a young 77 & 74 yr olds who are very 'seasoned' cruisers!!pirate:
Thanks in advance for anyone's advice!!:thumbsup2

They might enjoy it. I had a 12 year old. We as a family did not enjoy it. There were not enough activities to keep her active. When I say as a family I mean as long as I don't have to hear I"m bored, I don't have anything to do. The club is boring. Then I am happy. I don't really like cruise pools. they seem crowded and dirty. I Just did not feel there was enough activities as a whole on the cruise. I think they wanted you to gamble and we really aren't into that. The thing that I did like is that when we docked in Nausau we went to the British Colonial Hilton and paid 10.00 to use their beach and pool. That was worth every penny. A short walk from the boat. They supply the towels, beach chairs, and floats. You can see the boats dock. It is a private beach. If you need to cool off you can sit in their lobby that is huge. That was nice. Anyway that was just my experience, everyones is different. We did Disney first and that kind of spoiled us against all others.

To be honest, if it was a family cruise, we wouldn't even have looked at Carnival. But it's a "Girls Cruise", and we were looking for cheap. We got the 7 day eastern cruise for less than $600 Canadian each - oceanview cabin. There's 3 adults going. But even when researching for that cruise, it didn't come across as a "family" cruise - although lots of people on the other discussion forum have taken their families and enjoyed it. I told DH that I might come back from this cruise saying "We're nuts! Lets cancel Disney and book Carnival!" - but both of us highly doubt it. I'll give my impressions and comparisons when I get back - although admit going into it slightly (okay - more than slightly! :lmao: ) biased towards Disney.

I have never been on Carnival. We like to go Royal Caribbean. We have done the Mariner out of Port Canaveral several times and enjoyed it. We did not have kids and they had plenty to keep us busy. Plus they have an excellent library. We are leaving in the morning to go to Vancouver for 2 days and then a 9 day alaskan cruise that also goes to San Fransisco and ends in LA. We are spending 4 days ad DL before flying home. It is Royal also. When we get back then I will work on this trip. I can't wait but I so hate to fly. I let DH book our air and instead of flying non stop we are changing planes in Cincinatti and Seattle. Next time I do the air part.

Hi to all! Just switched a cruise to this cruise! I had a wonder cruise booked that somehow I totally forgot about for dec.-I know-I don't know how I managed to do that!!! And I was just talking to DH about taking this cruise;and he said we have enough $ out on deposits!! So I was bummed to say the least-and then I get an email about this dec. wonder cruise final payment due tomorrow??? So perfect timing to switch to this cruise! So there we are-it will be me,DH and our 2 boys Frankie-7 at the time and Dominic-3 at the time! Can't believe I did that!! but so looking forward to Halloween on board and the 2x @ CC!!! Thanks for letting me vent! Angel

Just wanted to add that my DD age 16 at the time of sailing might be loining us;she is at that age that DCL is too babyish for her! HORROR!!!! I'm working on her;and then I guess we'll have to grab another cabin and split people up! TA has group space so I told her to hurry up and make up her mind!!! Take care all!

I don't have any information about the hotel, but January can either be bitter cold or just plain cold! It depends on how the winter is going. But either way, plan on it being cold!

Hi there,

Things have been quiet in here, haven't they?

I have a question about the formal night...are you planning on going all out (tuxes, etc) and long (not necessarily puffy) dresses?

My DH is thinking about wearing his mess undress (RAN) and is wondering if this will be too much?

And a heads-up (or word of warning, can't be sure), we've been speaking with good friends of ours and they've asked that we make the arrangements for them to come on the cruise as well...

If it all works out, there will be 4 adults from Oz and 4 kids ranging in age from 4 to 7...

I hope you're all having a great day ... it's a long weekend here and the temp in Sydney is a summery 29 degrees (which is about 84F) - not bad for Spring...we're about to have a bbq lunch and open a nice bottle of wine and watch the kids play... I wish your day to be as good...pixiedust:

Hiya!

We are hopefully going to do the full tuxedo and cocktail dress thing for the formal night. I have a nice black, full length (not puffy) dress which is one of my options. The girls have prom dresses which they wore for their ROA nights, although I am sure they will be after something new!

Your weather sounds gorgeous - we have had a poor summer in the UK. The weather is now very autumnal, and the leaves are turning! The temperature is about 15 degrees, which is quite warm. I have been out chopping trees in the garden and starting to get the place ready for a Halloween BBQ / Party we are having on the 31st! This time next year we will be getting ready for something a bit more exciting!!!!!!

I think we'll go the whole way with it too. If we were able to cruise regularly we'd probably look at it differently, but we're seeing this as a one-off (for at least a few years).

It's very hot for this time of year (it's 34C today), so I think it's going to be a big summer heatwise.

With only a year to go (sounds so far away), we're trying to explain halloween to the kids. Shops here are starting to stock halloween items, but it's not the same as the US or UK.

According to my TA, it looks like the cruise is going to be sold out very soon, which will make for a great party.

Off now to take advantage of the sunshine and 'good drying weather'...:laundy:

Hey guys,

Back from my Carnival Girls' Cruise, which must admit enjoyed thoroughly - however it wasn't Disney. Embarkation was painless - we had done all the paper work on line, so could go through a much shorter line. Terminal was boring and uninteresting - sort of like a big warehouse. The sail away party was pitiful - a few dances but that was it, and very poorly attended. There was no special horn - actually no horn at all! The food was great, and we had lovely table mates - all women, three groups of us in all. Our servers were nice, however did not interact with us hardly at all - focused on their job. The assistant server was a little more animated. The dinner shows consisted of the waiters singing and/or doing a conga line - okay, but nothing special. Several buffets - the chocolate was complete gluttony! Noticed when I ordered tea for after supper that did not get the box of teas to select from, just a lipton tea bag.

Much more people were dressed up for both formal nights. Not many kids noticable on board - although did overhear one man complaining about the number of kids this cruise! Heaven help him if he ever does a Disney cruise. Must admit, despite best intentions, did not check out the kids club on board, but the shows and games were definitely adult oriented - G-rated, but certainly adult. Nothing seemed geared towards kids or families - unless it was advertised through the kids club and therefore we did not see it. Regular games on the lido deck, some got a little racy - ie: women ended up topless to give up their bikini tops for the scavenger hunt. Don't think there was much there that would have interested my two boys - other than the awesome water slide that the adults could also enjoy.

The room was good for three women. Did not miss the split bathroom because there were two separate mirror areas in the cabin. Our cabin steward was excellent, always speaking to us when he saw us around the ship - including pointing out when we were going the wrong way - "Where are you going? Your cabin is on the other side." He did keep the sofa bed made up as a bed all week - it worked okay for us, and wasn't enough of a bother to ask him to change it.

Ship was clean and neat. We were on the Valor. But it did not seem to have the polish that the Magic did. A lot of cigarette smoking on board - very noticable. Could even occasionally smell other substances!

DID NOT like how they do the picture thing. No packages available. No switching photos if liked another one later in the week. Could not stack as they took pictures down throughout the week. And if you wanted reprints, you had to buy the 8X10 at $21.95 - you don't want a whole lot of 8X10's of you and your friends, so we ended up buying very few pictures, and didn't pose for many shots because we knew they would only be printed as 8X10's. They did have a lot of variety in picture backgrounds, and even a few dress up sets - including a pirate scene! If could have bought 5X7s, they would have made much more money off of us.

Disembarking - we did the self assist, and walked off slugging our luggage to make sure that we got to the airport with plenty of time to spare. Just waited in our cabin until they called our floor for self disembark. When we left, they still didn't have the rest of the ship cleared from customs. Don't know how they do it on Disney - but Carnival reports to Customs purchases and winnings on the ship. One of our tablemates got held up there when she didn't declare everything she had purchased.

Think that's just about it. If think of anything else, will let you know. Glad to answer any questions. Came back glad we have this one booked for next year. Must admit, did entertain/price some RCCL and Carnival cruises, but although a little cheaper, not what we want to do yet with the kids. But with the Canadian dollar pretty much on par with the US dollar, did cancel our booking for this cruise today - but rebooked it at the same time. Because the value of the dollar has risen so much since we originally booked in February, cancelling and rebooking saved us almost $700 :yay:  :cool1:

Carnival over, can now focus on Disney!!! DH going "Oh No!"
