Well if AT takes them over, you can look at multiple changes to your flight times between now and then.
I hope that if they do merge, they don't cut the service between here and MCO. However, I can't see them keeping 4 flights daily (3 MW and 1 AT). Right there that is a reduction in service.
The only good with the merger would hopefully be the lower prices that AT charges. But without competition (NWA is dropping all their non-stops except to Detroit, Minneapolis and Memphis as of Jan 2), there is no reason for lowering your prices.
I guess a second would be newer planes to the tourist markets. MW flies the old MD80 series to Orlando (except one flight), Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, among others. Plus those planes have the 2x3 seating. AT flies brand new 717's.
The media here in MKE doesn't show that when they cover this story though. They only focus on the 2 across leather seat planes on the new 717's. They also don't show any comparison of fares, which AT usually is cheaper, but they only service 3 markets non-stop. If you're willing to connect through Atlanta, you can save hundreds over MW. On the flipside, they should show the inconsistency in AT's flight schedule.
Both airlines have their plus' and minus'.
I personally would like to see AT beef up their service here without taking over MW. Then bring in JetBlue and Southwest (I personally would not fly SW) for added competition. Market MKE as an overflow for O'Hare with cheaper prices. Our airport is so dead mid-day they could use more flights.
