Karen and Linda..........

Wonderful "How you met your mate" stories:love:

Really sweet.
Linda....too funny how you jumped off the bar!

Anyone else got a "How you met your mate" story?

Please share!

My family and I haven't spoken in years. The last time was at the horribly distressing death of my grandmother, whom I cared for the last few years of her life............the rest of my family showed up for that...hadn't been around in years. My own mother screamed at me over her mother's death bed over a furnace that they stole from their mother's home Yes.....I am not kidding......they should be on the Jerry Springer show.

Geez Rose - I'm sorry to hear about you and your family - I thought I was the only one with mad relatives:confused3 - your mum screams - mine sulks - we should introduce them:rotfl:

Sean sounds lovely:hug:

Wow, Paige, Linda and Karen
:drinking1
The alcohol did it?????:rotfl:

Actually I met my first (well...only) husband in a bar....but we only stayed married for 10 months. I was too young....

Hell! I'm still young!;)

How I met my DH.....I was part of his DB's wedding party, and we kind of got together on the bachelor and bachelorette parties. Yes, as was true for Karen and Linda, a bar figures into this story as well. Rob wasn't able to consume alcohol because of meds he was taking (just got out of the hospital with meningitis--very dangerous). So he decided to get everyone else drunk so he could have some entertainment. I ended up his primary source of entertainment, so to speak.:lmao: That was it. We were attached at the hip ever since. We've actually known each other our whole lives, but didn't feel "that way" about each other until we were in college. Three years later, almost to the night that we started dating, we were married....quickie wedding because of the Persian Gullf War. Maybe when he retires in 4 years we should throw ourselves a huge wedding. (What am I thinking, our wedding, as most Cajun weddings, WAS still big--too big. Well, at least the alcohol bill was big. You know the words spreads fast when there is party coming.) Note to self: No huge wedding--just more cruises.:rotfl:

Paige - if you think your wedding was small our whole wedding party consisted of me and Neil! - we still had a large bar bill though:rotfl: The photographer and video guy were the witnesses and a lady in a little red jacket married us by a little lake in Florida:love:

Nancy - love love love the photos - I have an idea:idea: - if you come dressed like that for the cruise we'll definately spot you in the terminal:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Personally I'm going for a lime green t shirt but I'll keep a look out for the bunny clan.:lmao:

Yup, I thought about that reading your posts about your mom and the house deal and about how you hadn't spoke with your sis in years.
But you're much more saintly than I. You still keep in contact with your mom and are trying to help out your sister:hug:
I've disowned my relatives in favor of much more loving friends:grouphug:

Sean has learned a great deal from our experiences. He really knows how to treat (and not treat) people. He will make a fine husband to someone some day.

Rose--rest assured, most if not all families have some "Jerry Springer" types. I know mine does. When we go home for a visit I usually have to eduacte my children as to the language (bigoted) they will hear and why we don't feel the same way as some of those family members.

What a blessing it was for you to have been able to care for your grandmother in the end. My grandmother died in Oct 05 and I was able to be at her side when she breathed her last, and although it was so painful, I think of it as a gift. Oddly enough, my siblings, who all live within 10 minutes of her house, were not able to be there--not their fault, just circumstances.

pixiedust: for you and Sean. You never know, this "new family" may be the best thing ever. Just remember this, smile and be open to the ones who smile at you............and laugh your butt off at the "Jerry Springer" types. :lmao:

That sounds so romantic!

Two years ago on Easter morning I went out in my backyard because I saw the neighbors dog laying in my grass doing something....
This dog never leaves it's yard so I thought it was strange.

There is tufts of fur all over the lawn!
And the dog is rolling all over the fur and the grass.
As I shoo her away I see one bunny foot and part of the torso (not much left)

I take a shovel and pick it up to put in a garbage bag out front of the house and my neighbor sees me and I tell him what I saw and he tells me that
that must have been the end of the Easter bunny!:rotfl:

Damn coyotes! Took my favorite cat last May too.

Nancy--great pics!! I bet y'all have lots of fun when y'all are together. You know that from now on, I will have to refer to the four of them as "the bunny kids."

Hey, did I see right? Brenda is lurking around here somewhere? Could this mean she is writing another installment? Rob is studying and my kids are vegging out in front of the TV, so I am ready to read! :surfweb: (Ok, I think I have officially become an Argie-Bargie/Shrubbery stalker.:scared1:

Should I break the mold and have manners?...and a brain?:lmao:

:lmao: Well said

I love Brenda's story about that wedding she went to where they had paper towels for napkins, cheese ball, beer out in the truck and they went and got KFC. I just laughed so hard I nearly peed reading that one!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Jason and I met in college...yawn.

But..it was while we were both taking Russian for our foreign language requirement (we had both transferred in from other schools after taking time off and we were both majoring in history).

I eyeballed him all year and finally worked up the courage to ask him out on a date during final exams in May - my rationale being that if he said no I wouldn't have to see him for three months and some of the sting of rejection would have worn off by then. ;)

Lucky for me he said yes (I think he was just bored) and then I wore him down thorugh years of persistance and good humor. :lmao:

As for family...here's a brief glimpse into my skeletons... my parents divorced when I was two. My mom and I came to St. Louis where her sister lived and my dad and brother remained in Michigan.

I didn't see my dad again until I was 8, and that was for about 10 minutes when he dumped my 15-year old brother off on our doorstep and then went back to Michigan.

I saw him one other time when I was 12 and then never heard from him again until right before Jay and I got married. At that time my brother instigated a "reunion" of sorts with the old sperm-donor and he said that he wanted to come to the wedding.

Bwhaahahahahahahaaha...excuse me while I repair the herniated disk I just gave myself over that request.

Long story short - I told him to stuff it.

When my brother was ill with lung cancer I did see him on the two (yeah, that's right, two) occassions that he came to town to visit Mike, one of those occassions being his funeral. Myabe I'm just a hard-***, but I still don't have anything to do with him.

My step-father's been a part of my life since I was 11 years old and he's the best father I could have asked for.

My real father didn't want anything to do with me while I was growing up but once college was paid for and it was obvious that I didn't need anything from him on a financial or emotional level then he was right there ready to be a father again.

Bah - get a dog.

Anyway, this Missouri version of Jerry Springer has been brought to you courtesy of no-coffee...I could sure use some right now! :lmao:

I think I'm going to go talk a walk with the hubby...it's in the mid-70s and that fresh air smellls great!

See ya later! :goodvibes
