OCTOBER 2016 Car Rental Rate Watch Thread

So glad I checked with you guys! Just my daughter and I October 4 - 11 - Alamo Economy for $95!!
$50 Off Code AD4004JDK (Coupon Code)
Costco Member Code 7015309 (Contract ID)
AS1 (Product Code)

Booked a dodge caravan for November this morning 10 days, $523.00. Looks like I'm paying way too much!

Since I belong to the April/May threads, I should mention that the $50 coupon is causing problems for many recent renters. It's not coming off the bill which means folks are having to go to the counter to try to get it adjusted and there are reports that it's not being honored anymore. After reading those accounts, I've taken my $50 coupon off my rental and replaced it with a $25 one. THe last thing I want while on vacation is having to deal with convincing an agent that I'm eligible for a $50 coupon that is now expired. I just thought it was worth mentioning since most of you may not see the most current posts from users. I pick up next Saturday on the 30th, but also booked my October rental. If you visit the April rental car thread, you can get updated info. People are just now returning after using the coupon, or trying to use it. Some have been successful in getting it adjusted after calling Alamo or visiting the desk agent and some have not. Just not worth the hassle for me while on vacation.

I'll try to find the posts.

We just got back. We had a standard size booked at Alamo with vegas brazil and $50 insider coupon. Our est rate was $121. We did online check in and picked a malibu from the full size aisle. They handed us a receipt for $180. The $50 coupon was not included. I emailed them and gave them our reservation number and they refunded the $50 to us (to-day) so our total was $130.

UPDATE: I picked up a compact car - Chevy Cruze - which was listed on the rental agreement as an intermediate btw on 4/11 @ 11:30pm. I checked in online and bypassed the counter and went right to the garage, there were tons of cars. I asked the lady that directed me what I would have gotten with the "drive happy deal" she said whatever they have an excess off, ie vans or pick up trucks.... Since I was exhausted and never looked at the rental agreement I got at the exit window.... I had $59 in "savings" that was never taken off my total. So instead of $75 I was being "charged" $134. I dropped the car off yesterday around 6pm and was directed to a manager, who "fixed it" and said I would only be charged $75. As of this morning, my credit card was only charged $58! I am going to keep an eye on it.

I had 2 friends this same week use the above codes in anyway that would get them a cheaper rate (I dont know which exact ones they used). Most used the $50 off, which was not deducted at time of pick up (I had pre warned them about my situation). Everyone was able to get the rate that they were quoted when they booked.

Stand your ground when you pick up your car.

Well I used the $50 off coupon a few times this past week with no issues at all but now it seems to be expired. The website will still take the coupon but when you go to the exit booth it will get kicked off the reservation. Even if you did the online check-in and printed your paperwork. I had this happen yesterday at MCO & today at another location. The reservation at MCO was only for 1 day but once I saw it was not on the paperwork and I showed the agent it was on my check-in paper she took the $50 off the reservation for me. Now today I had a reservation for 1 week but the agent at this location would not do anything and just said the coupon was expired & that there was nothing she could do. She even showed me in the system that it said expired but she refused to do any kind of discount & wanted to charge me full price. She said the rates can change all the time & even if the confirmation shows one price that could change by pickup time. Needless to say I took my business to another rental company & got a better rate. So be warned if you still do try to use the coupon it will be expired for sure but depending on the agent they might take the $50 off anyways or you might have to pay full price if you don't have a backup plan.

thanks for the update on the &50 code. I guess I will keep my reservation for now. MCO can be so picky, compare to other Alamo locations. But I do realize someone had said it was an expired code that was still usable. Hmmmm.

What is the code for the $25 off coupon.

Where do I enter codes when booking on the Costco travel website?

Where do I enter codes when booking on the Costco travel website?

You don't enter codes for bookings on Costco.com. There are "special offers" at the bottom of the first page that you can click through. The blurb on the website says "Costco scans all available discount opportunities to ensure the lowest rate". Right now, I booked a better deal directly through Alamo with the Costco member ID than I could get on their website.

I know this is off topic but I thought I would ask here since I see some fellow Canadians in the mix. Does anyone know if Air Canada opens up their free dining bookings at the same time Disney drops theirs? For example last year Disney opened theirs at 4:30am, would I have to wait until 7am to book with Air Canada online or does it open the same time? I'd love to book Air Canada and save myself the exchange rate on my credit card.

Hey everyone, we are just back from our April/May trip. I have updated post one with the other codes recently mentioned.....let me know if there are any others you would like to see listed in that first entry for easy reference.

I don't think the AP code 15000 is there.

I had used the $50 coupon AD4004JDK and it was rejected at SFB last week - and it also caused an error at the kiosk, the screen telling me repeatedly that I had to go the counter. They didn't honor the coupon at the counter, but fortunately I hadn't used VROOM VROOM (not that I've ever heard of customers being asked for proof of eligibility for that code). I'd used the AP code but wasn't asked to show my AP. I won't be using AD4004JDK again. I'd never had the kiosks boot me off before. At least the lines for the counter were short.

I had the 50 dollar coupon on our reservation for Oct. 1-8. I made those in April, everything was great. I went back in to check if the rates went down, did a whole new reservation, and it would not except the coupon. I emailed Alamo, and they said they would no longer honor it. So I booked with Costco, and the 25 dollar code. It is still good. 155 for a full size.
