***October 2012 Thread*** MNSSHP + Food & Wine - Does It Get Any Better?

I'm so glad there's a thread for me to gush about how excited I am for a trip that is still 9.5 months away! :yay:
We are driving to Orlando (from Missouri!) for an 8 day vacation! (That's after I subtract the hideous 2 days of driving involved :sad1:) We will be in Florida from Oct 13-20th 2012. So far the plan is to do 4 days at DW parks, 1 day at Sea World, and 1 day in Tampa at Busch Gardens!
We decided to go out of our comfort zone and try a vacation villa with private pool/hot tub...and we decided to go with Romancing the Mouse's 5br/5bath in Windsor Hills.
This trip will be moi , DH :happytv:, DS (12) pirate:, DD (6) princess:, and DMiL :surfweb:!
I have been making spreadsheet after spreadsheet, compiling link after link, giving my computer a meltdown, and driving my DH nuts with nonstop Disney talk. It's officially 2012, so I can now say the trip is THIS year! :woohoo:

We drove from St. Louis last time (about 1000 miles). Fortunately, we like long road trips! The good thing about October is that driving through the Smokies during autumn is quite lovely. (This year, with a baby, the in-laws, and the kids' school schedules, we're flying. Whew.) Happy travels!

Awesome! We've never taken the kids on such a long road trip before! We've always flown in the past, but I think since a portion of our trip will be overnight, they will be fine sleeping in the back seat! I hadn't even considered the fall scenery, so that's a great point! When you all drive, do you prefer to take your own vehicle or rent? We have a 2010 Camry that gets pretty good gas mileage, so I'm actually considering taking it and saving a few hundred =) :surfweb:

Are there any Halloween themed parades that take place during normal park hours in October? Or are the Halloween parades only during the MNSSHP hours? Also, I'm assuming that like the rest of the year, kids are allowed to be in costume (within reason for safety) during the day as well? Yes, even though it's only January...we are already looking for costumes! lol

Happy New Year everyone! Just checking in. I've been away for a while, but one of my resolutions is to keep up on my Dis. :goodvibes
I cannot believe it is only 9+ months until our trip. When I first booked it, it was sooo far away... Now it seems like it is around the corner! Back to obsessing on every little detail for me! :rotfl:

Our dates overlap a little! On New Years day I said to Ryan- "IT'S DISNEY YEAR!!!"- 9 months seems like nothing now that we are atleast in 2012 :cool1:

June hours are up!! We are gettIng closer!!!

WooHoo! At least now I can say I'm going to Disney THIS year. (Just realized that one year ago today, we were arriving at CBR . :sad1:) We're also thinking about changing our reservation to POR. Anyone else here have resort commitment issues?

MEEEE!! I change my mind constantly about where I want us to stay.

Me too!!! I booked at POP, then I mentally changed to Kidani, then I actually called this time to move to YC and now I'm playing around with the idea of staying at the CR.... decisions decisions :confused3

I totally have resort commitment issues, especially this year when I'm planning a big trip for my in-laws' 40th anniversary. It will be them, my own family of five, and my sister-in-law's family of three. I want to make sure everyone has a MAGICAL time, especially since other than my family, either no one's ever been to WDW before or they went but had a horrible time. (My response: you just did it wrong. With a little planning there's something for everyone at The World!)

This year I'm waffling between The Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, and Port Orleans Riverside. My MIL was interested in Animal Kingdom Lodge, and I am, too, but it's sort of far away from MK and we have very little children so we'll be going back to the hotel frequently and want that to be as convenient as possible. (This is why I'm leaning toward The Contemporary. Well, that plus the views are awesome.)

We have an Odyssey so we take that. The DVD player is a lifesaver for long trips! (My in-laws live in Wyoming, also 1000 miles away from here, and we visit them every summer.)

Yeah a lot of us were commenting about the "THIS YEAR" thing on facebook! So exciting! :)

I don't think I have issues but when I first booked I didn't know anything. I was booked a POP (which I think is the best choice for value) but then I found the DIS!

I am now booked in and PAID IN FULL for our trip to POR and staying in a Royal Room! It looks like an amazing resort. And it will be fun to explore on our weekend off from the parks! I like the idea of the boat ride to DTD too!

So tonight I went ahead and switched our reservation to POR in a garden view room. Now all I need is a discount!

We stayed at the POR twice, it's a beautiful resort. They didn't have the Royal Rooms in 2009. What are they? The food court at the POR is good, huge variety. :thumbsup2

They are brand new themed rooms that open in March 2012. They will be in the Oak Manor and Parterre Place mansions! They have fiber optic fireworks displays in the headboard and "tokens" from Princesses who have "stayed" in the room. Like in the carpet design is Aladins magic carpet, the faucets in the bathroom look like Genies lamp, the stool at the front door looks like the 'dog' from Beauty and the Beast!

And I'm surprising the kids with the room! I did tell them we switched from POP to POR but they don't know that we're in a Royal Room. I'm so glad they did it like a castle room so it isn't incredibly girly! I wouldn't want the boys to dislike it.

My son watched the video with me and said it was cool. Good choice- they're going to flip!
