***October 2012 Thread*** MNSSHP + Food & Wine - Does It Get Any Better?

I sometimes force myself not to look at things for a few days. I'll keep up on the boards here, but I don't go look at my Wall o'Plans because I know I'll drive myself nuts.

I do think it's easier for me sometimes because it's just me and the hubby and he's so flexible. So we don't have to worry about kids getting sick, hungry, tired, etc. If we get tired of being in one park, unless we have an ADR coming up soon, we'll just leave. And we can always find a place to take a little break if necessary.

And I think staying at an Epcot resort this time is going to be our saving grace. If we feel that Epcot is getting too crowded, we can always head back to our room, to SAB or we can just take a boat/walk over to DHS and spend some time there.

Apparently it's a no-stress Monday for me. I may not sound this logical and patient the next time I start looking at my plans. LOL

It's just hubby and I as well. My hubby however just tolerates going to Disney World because I love it. and Actually the only reason I am getting him to go back is because of the Food & Wine festival. Without that I'm not sure I could get him to go back. I am hoping that he sees some of the magic this trip and he will be willing to go back again. Last time I concentrated too much just on rides and not on the whole atmosphere so this time I am hoping we can take it slower and soak in everything!

F&W is a great time to bring him, if nothing else after 6 or 7 different beers he will be fine either way lol

Hubby loves it just as much as I do...some days, I think possibly more. But he lets me do most of the planning. I never have to talk him into it. I brought up our 10th anniversary a couple months ago and he thought I was nuts, then I mentioned I was thinking maybe a Disney Cruise or an Adventures by Disney trip and he became very interested. :rotfl:

LOL! DH was a much happier camper on our first trip when we got out of MK and discovered there was beer to be had in the rest of the parks. That being said, he still wasn't all that excited when we went back. This latest trip we designated as a girl's trip which was just fine with him until we had a surprise baby and he'd be left at home with the little one while DD and I went to WDW. :lmao: Now he's talking about a family trip to WDW when the youngest is old enough to remember it. Whoo hoo!

If I may make a suggestion to those that might have significant others who might not appreciate Disney as much as you...try taking the Keys To The Kingdom tour. Maybe learning about some of the history and details put into building the parks will help open their hearts/minds to Disney. :goodvibes

We're booked:cheer2: October 6, through October 17, 2012 at Pop Century! Our youngest grown son will be joining us on this trip and the timing will be right for F&W as well as MNSSHP. Now to work on a ticker!

I grew up on frequent trips to WDW with my family. After I went off to college I figured I grew out of Disney. My parents had an RV and continued to travel to WDW on their own every few years. While they always asked me to fly down and meet them, I really had no interest. For my 30th B-Day back in 2006, my parents invited me down during F&W Fest ... and there was no looking back. We've since been back for almost every F&W Fest.

Enjoying F&W Fest as a family of adults have been some of the greatest family vacations ever. We've done numerous food seminars, and taken many of the tours including the Segway tours, Keys to The Kingdom, and the Steam Train tours. We also got to enjoy The Adventurer's Club while it was still around ... hitting the AC's last big Halloween bash before it closed! Heck, even sitting back at the RV, taking in Ft Wilderness and drinking some beers is a great time, or riding around in Sea Raycer speedboats. Yep, I think I may enjoy WDW more now as an adult.

We're always looking to try something new every visit, and this year I already got our tickets for the Oct 12th (Friday) Swan/Dolphin Food/Wine Classic cuaseway event.

If any time at WDW can make someone a believer, it would probably be during F&W

Sunday 10/14
arrive and check in @ POR (we're driving, so probably won't be until after dinner before we arrive)
walk around/explore POR (maybe even take a carriage ride around the resort)

Monday 10/15 (which just happens to be my birthday!)
DHS (hopefully arrive for rope drop)
ADR at Cape May for dinner around 5:00 or 5:30
return to DHS or go back to POR and call it a night

Tuesday 10/16
sleep in
lounge by POR pool
ADR for an early dinner at Raglan Road (around 4-ish or so?)
head over to MK for MNSSHP (though we're not 100% sure we're going to the party… if not, we'll probably push dinner back an hour or so)

Wenesday 10/17
Epcot (hopefully arrive for rope drop, but I'm also hoping to be at MK until 12 a.m. the previous night, so we'll see!)
ADR for lunch at Le Cellier
snack our way around the F&W vendors for dinner
stay at Epcot for EMH

Thursday 10/18 (our wedding anniversary date)
sleep in
lounge by POR pool
maybe take boat to DTD for lunch at EofS?
ADR for Spirit of Aloha luau (5:15 or 5:30, I can't remember the time)
walk around/explore the Poly (especially since I'm thinking of staying here on our next family trip!)

Friday 10/19
check out of POR and drive home :(

Those are my tentative plans. Although the EasyWDW has me considering switching to Epcot on Monday and going to DHS on Wednesday. We'd lose the evening EMH at Epcot if we did that, so just need to decide what we want to do!

Any thoughts?

Monday is typically the best day for Epcot while the F&W Fest is going on. Monday morning may also be the best time to hit HS for the entire week. So, it's sort of a toss up on Monday based on what your preferred park would be. If you're interested in the F&W Fest, Monday will be the best day for the World Showcase.

Do you have park hoppers? If so, I'd recommend hitting Epcot on Monday. You could still hit HS on rope drop on Monday for Toy Story and then head over to Epcot. Wednesday you can still do HS, and then hop to Epcot for EMHs.

If you don't have hoppers, I'd just go with your favorite between Epcot or HS on Monday.

I think we'll go ahead and switch... Epcot on Monday instead of Wednesday. Yeah, we'll lose the evening EMH at Epcot... but I think Monday will be a better choice.

No, we didn't add PHs to our tickets. We've done them in the past, but DH isn't convinced they're worth it. Not for us, anyway.

We feel the opposite - that park hoppers are always worth it for us. We like the freedom of knowing that we can just change our park plans at a moments notice or head to another park if we feel like the one we are at is too crowded. And since this trip we're staying at an Epcot resort, we figure we'll be dropping by Epcot just about every day or talking a walk over to DHS when the mood strikes.

It all depends on what works for you!

We agree. We almost always are adults only and more times than not we go to more than one park during the day. When our daughter joined us for a weekend last year we went to 3 parks and DTD on the Sat. It was Oct 1 so MK was packed and we were just there to say we had been.

We always do park hoppers as well. Sometimes we use them a lot and other times not so much. This trip it looks like we'll be using them almost every day because of many MNSSHPs on the calendar and the shorter hours than we are typically used to. I've got two parks planned for each day at the moment.

I can't believe how much more expensive airplane tickets are than 2 years ago at this time. We flew for $79 each way then, now we are looking at $154 EACH WAY. Times six people. The bad thing is that now that Southwest has acquired Airtran there is no competition. We are going to have to save more pennies (and dollars) than we had planned!!!
It's Disney though, so it will be worth it!

Is anyone else planning on doing the Wishes Dessert Party? And if so does anyone know when booking opens for it? I've heard several different answers to that one so far!

The OP has lots of info and updates when new dates are open for reservation. I want to surprise DH when we go by ourselves in October. I went last year with my two best friends and we enjoyed it a lot :cutie:

Hi I see that you have the same birthday as me. We'll be staying in Pop Century from October 6 to October 17. For me, just being in Walt Disney World makes my birthday special.

Happy Birthday to you! pixiedust:
