October 2012 Code Watch!!!

I talked to a CM yesterday...she said that as far as she can tell GP promotions won't be out until July or August...but did say to keep our eyes and ears pulled because they have gotten a lot of calls regarding for free dining for October...but she did not say that that would be the next promotion...at this point I will be happy to get anything!!! I also one time asked out the pin codes and was told that there were not any black out dates in regards to the FD pin codes, but we didn't have any!!! too bad we couldn't use someone's that wasn't going!! :o) hahahaha Hoping to get something soon!:o)

I wish that was the case for our FD PIN, but unfortunately, there are blackouts-right when we will be there! Oh well! :goodvibes

We snagged a bounce back offer while at the YC - early Oct was blacked out but late Oct was available - very limited availability though - we were able to book the WL (CY bunkbeds) for 35% off :cool1:

have never received any e mail's or snail mail from Disney, and I had booked a trip with two rooms for last december, One for myself and one for my daughter and her husband and children. She received the pin about four weeks ago and have free dining for the last two weeks in October, and you can use it up to 3 rooms. So if you booked other rooms with different family member's have them check they might have something. Good luck to all of you I know the FD is a great saving's especially when you go with a lot of children we will have 5 and 4 adults.

Southwest lists their best fares on Tuesday-Thursday. If you look at fares on Friday-Monday, you'll definitely see a difference. I don't think it has anything to do with how often people look at the site. If you want a deal on Southwest, check on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. They release their sale fares on Tuesdays and by the time Friday rolls around, the sale is over. You'll never find a better price on a Friday than you'd find on a Tuesday.

Agree 100%!!! this is part of my "strategy"! But i agree with the other poster as well... Hate to pay too much!

I agree that this would be absolutely amazing. We are hoping for similar dates. I plan on taking my daughter for a special 13th birthday trip but really need the pixie dust to make it happen. :goodvibes

Ours is a birthday trip too. We're going for my son's 12th birthday. I've still got my fingers crossed for pixie dust for all of us:wizard:

Just called to see if we had a PIN. Turns out, we have Free Dining! Woo Hoo!

Except that the week we are going, is blacked out! :confused3 We arrive on the 9th of October, and check out the 16th. Black out dates: 10/5-10/18.

I am so bummed!! I asked her what was going on that might be the reason for a black out that week, and she said nothing big, and she wasn't sure why that week in particular was unavailable. Other than the F&W and MNSSHP, nothing was on the schedule.

I can't tell you how bummed I am! I'd change our dates, but we are there for a wedding, and I already bought YES tickets.

Tha's when we are going except we arrive on the 14th. I have no idea why it is blacked out and everyone I have asked does not know. I did send an email on easywdw and they said it may be because there are a lot of kids out for a fall break ? Who knows, there is no reason for it to be blacked out. It is frustrating :sad2:

It has been blacked out for years. As I mentioned in another thread, Columbus Day, Canadian Thanksgiving, and school fall breaks are likey contributors. Disney only gives FD to fill rooms. They must be satisfied with the number of rooms historically filled during those two weeks so they black it out. There is no other reason than the fact that Disney feels they don't need to give discounts during that time. I know it sucks...I was there last year from Oct. 15-23. I paid rack rate for room, tix and QSDP, but luckily for me our fall break is two weeks later this year. Otherwise, we'd be paying full price again.

As far as I can tell from do reservation searches on the Disney site there are more rooms available that week then the week after. Because I did check while I was thinking of switching my dates. I checked a few and there were a few that were not available the week starting the 21st and the week of the 14th everything was available. So go figure :confused3

I always use a particular planning web site (don't know if its ok to mention the name) and they are always pretty spot on with their predictions. I've used them for every one of my trips since I found them and we always have the best time because we follow their advice and stay on top of their crowd predictions. This being said, they predict the week of the 14th to be much lower than the rest of the weeks in October. So, hmmmmm......:confused3

Of course the low crowd level predictions would most likely shoot way up if a nice promotion was offered such as FD. So there would be a bit of a trade-off, at least for me, I'm a big fan of low crowds and FD.:cheer2:

In your opinion, do you think Disney will change the blackout dates? Or are the all but set in stone?
We are heading down for fall break Oct -14-21

While anything is possible, given the history of that time frame, I see it being blacked out again. I would love to be wrong, though.

what is this fall break? i'm from canada and we get a xmas break and a spring break but not a fall break. is this the same sort of thing? do all the states get it?
this would explain why we couldn't get free dinning last october when we went. i'll have to make sure to plan around this going forward.

Some schools get a week, others a couple of days and some nothing at all. I think the schools that go year round get two or three weeks off in the fall. Our school district gets one week. Last year it was the week of Oct. 18, but this year it is the week of Oct. 29. We start school in mid-Aug and go until the first week of June, so we get that extra week off. Schools that start after Labor Day or end before Memorial Day typically don't get a fall break. It varies by school system, even those within the same county can have different schedules.

thanks, that does explain a lot. i was in wdw last august as a little alone trip and it wasn't busy. i asked why and one of the cm's told me school had started which surprised me (pleasantly) because our classes don't start till the day after labour day. i had expected mad crowds.

I live in New England and even though I don't have kids, I am pretty sure no schools up here have an Oct break. In fact...just asked a couple co-workers who have kids and they both said no Oct breaks.

Some school districts put a fall break in their schedule. We don't have it here in the Chicago area, but I taught in Indianapolis for 5 yrs & they had a fall break around the 3rd week in October. It was 2.5 days off of school.

I live in Ky and we get the first 2 weeks of October for fall break. We get out of school late May, early June (depending on how many snow days we have to make up) and we go back to school last week of July. Not all counties are the same. Some only get 1 week.

I live in New England and the only Fall break we have is for Thanksgiving. We got 2 1/2 days off. This year it is dismissal at noon on 11/23 and they get the 24th and 25th off. When I was growing up my entire extended family went to Disney at this time and had Thanksgiving together there. We only had to take 2 days off school since we never did anything on early dismissal day anyway but our teachers would still give up insane amounts of "makeup" work to do while at Disney even though we never did that amount of work in 2 days even when we were in classes. I couldn't believe how much work they expected 6 year old kids to do while missing only 2 days of school and one of those days was Thanksgiving.

My DD (14) and I are going on her Fall break (Oct. 17-22), which is officially two days (Thurs/Fri) but they also are out the Wednesday before for parent/teacher conferences, so technically they are out 3 days. Bump that up against a weekend and they're out for 5 days! I'm keeping her out of school on the Monday after for our trip home.

We went during the same fall break time in 2010 and free dining was offered to the GP then. I'm hoping for something, but won't be too sad if our dates are not included. I got a QSDP PIN earlier this year and currently have it applied to our reservation and am paying the difference for the full dining plan. So I'm still saving some $$$, but more would be nice. :)
