October 2012 Code Watch!!!

SAD TO SAY.... I'm leaving... gonna have to start 'code watching' for Oct 2013 now. I never got a pin either, but not why I'm switching. Turns out the lady that put in a 'code' for me had listed it as a AAA code. Not sure how that would have worked since I don't have AAA????

Im so sorry to hear that! I was assured by a cm via the phone that a new general public promotion will come out a few days after the current ones end (6/14). Id urge you not to give up just yet, but you know your situation more than i do if other items are in play. Keep your chin up!

Eh, its ok. Just gives me more time to save even more money for the trip :) Gotta always look at the bright side!

I don't know if this really means anything, but I wanted to share. We've been planning a trip in October since last July with fingers crossed for FD. We have six in our party and FD would really help a lot. Our week (14-20 for our kids Fall break) is not included in the pin code promotion, not that I got one, but I have seen in previous years that pin codes often become GP offers. Anyway, I've been talking to several CMs, some knowledgable and some not, and they have been very encouraging about FD when discussing my travel plans. The other day I spoke with one of the online chat CMs. I told him I was looking for the best time to come in Oct. and he said, "you should go check out our special offers before you decide on dates." I told him that there were none for Oct. and he said, "oh, that's right, they haven't been released yet." He asked me where I wanted to stay. "I said that we had planned on Poly (that's before we added a sixth), but without FD, we would probably change to POR and that we were considering AOA, but I believed that it would be way too crowded so prabably not AOA. He then asked if I was interested in dining plans and I said, "yes, FD." He told me to "go book AOA now" and then I could fine tune it when I found the offer I wanted and he added, "do you understand what I'm trying to tell you?" I said yes and then I said, "Is Oct. 14-20th a good week to come....I mean, as far as crowds and weather go?" He said, "yes, that is an EXCELLENT week to come!" So it may not mean a hill of beans and I may be reading too much into it, but I went and booked AOA simply for whatever reason the CM had insisted that I should (I know it couldn't have been for lack of booking as the lady I booked AOA with said she would have to check to see, "if there is availability because those rooms are booking up fast.") and now I am anxiously awaiting the days following June 14th hoping for a new GP offer that includes FD during my chosen dates.:tigger:

I'm going to hope it means more than just a CM selling you on a vacation, because those are our dates as well and I could REALLY use a discount!!!:goodvibes

You and me both! I've been so discouraged by the pin code posts that I have pretty much convinced myself that there would be no discounts for my dates and since I don't want my kids to miss a lot of school, switching dates would be a difficult option. Now whether it meant anything or not, my conversation with the CM at least gave me some hope.

I also asked another CM who told me the dates for the current free dining codes why my dates would be blacked out. I was curious to know if there was something special going on that week and she said that there was nothing that she knew of and she really couldn't understand why it would be blacked out. She told me to keep watching for special offers over the next few weeks because she felt sure that a really good GP offer was coming soon.Again, may not mean anything, but I'll sure be checking. :thumbsup2

I hope that the hints dropped turn out to be true ... but I wouldn't book AoA with the hope of converting it to a FD reservation. It wasn't included in the last promo, then it was, and some of the available nights filled up very quickly. I'm still trying to get my existing reservation switched from Pop & haven't had much luck :/

Wanted to chime in with my experience from last year. We were at the World Oct. 15-23, 2011 and paid rack rate for everything (POP, tix and QSDP). I know CMs are telling some of you that you stand a good chance of getting FD for the middle of Oct, but historically, that just has not been the case. The FD PIN that was released a couple weeks ago stated "Get a first look at a tasty fall offer". This indicates that this will be the exact public offer whenever it comes out. I can see the offer dates/resorts being REDUCED if bookings go well with just the PIN, but I don't see them ADDING any other dates. This is all speculation on my part, but as someone who has gone to Disney in October for the last 5 straight years, I have paid close attention to the deals available.

My best advice to anyone booking a WDW trip is to book what you can afford, and then if a discount comes along for your dates/resort then just consider it to be icing on the cake. This is the best way to keep yourself from having any disappointments.

Best of luck to everyone waiting. Our fall break is two weeks later this year than last, so hopefully we'll get FD this time around. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone.:goodvibes

Thanks for the advice and feedback. It's dicouraging, but we were already following the logic of booking what you could afford and hoping for discounts. We originally planned our trip without much hope of FD or any other discount anyway since Disney announced they were scaling back on discounts. We cut back on two trips a year and combined it all into one. We've been booked with Poly since last July without FD and we had already paid for our trip, but now that some discounts have been showing up, the added bonus of FD would be a welcome bonus, or as Smitch said, "icing on the cake." Let's face it, everyone loves a good deal and whether you can afford a non-discounted trip or not, who doesn't love to save money if they can. Especially when it gives you more to spend in the parks or in my case, go back to two trips a year. Plus, discounts make the money I spend on Disney trips a little more logical to my DH who is not absolutely as convinced as my children and I are that Disney trips are an absolutely necessary expendature (yes, I admit it, I am a Disneyholic and I never plan on quitting:love:).

Even if FD doesn't work out, the encouragement by the CM to switch to AOA turned out to be a good thing as we now can have 6 in our party instead of only 5 at Poly (for less) and DM can join us. BUT, boy would FD be nice for 6. Now that would be a nice savings!

Thanks again for all the helpful feedback :)

I had been planning a solo trip for Oct. but am thinking of trying to take my
sister as we both have had a very hard
year taking care of our ill mother. I have already booked Pop and seperately bought my tickets so I do not think I can get FD as I did not get a package.
If I register her with various Disney emails and her name comes up for a FD pin would she be entitled to FD? She would be staying with me a POP but have not got her tickets yet. Any possibility?

A FD promotion requires everyone in the room to purchase at least a 2 day base ticket, so even is she gets a FD PIN you would still need to buy a ticket for yourself. You could just hold on to the ticket you have (or the ticket from the fd package) for a future trip, though.

Thank you. Unfortunatly there is no way I can afford to buy any more tickets for myself. I SO wish now I had purchased a package!:headache:

Me too Mary! FD would save a bundle for the 6 of us on eating so that is what I've been hoping for, but really, any discount is always appreciated. Sounds like FD might be quite a long shot based on the history of FD black-out dates in October and the current pin codes being sent out (of which a CM assured me there were none that were for the entire month of October for FD). I know FD has been offered every October over the last three years, but apparently mid-October is always blacked out (can't figure out why:confused:). We usually do an early Summer and a Winter trip so I've never really focused on October's offers before, but I do know the offers typically come out in late Summer around August. My discussion with the CMs made me hopeful that maybe it would be earlier this year, but it could have just been their good-hearted attempt at sprinkling some pixie dust on my vacation planning. :tinker:

Not a Disney discount but SW is having a mega sale through October for those who haven't booked their flights or booked through SW and might be able to get a credit. :goodvibes :thumbsup2

I called twice and got nothing BUT my BFF wants to take me and the kids on her vacation club points so we just have to pay for food and tickets. Now moving to the January code watch board!!!!

The SW deal maryj11 is referring to is about flight prices, not hotels.
