October 19, 2008 4 day Bahama - anyone else?

Justthe8ofus- right now DS likes putting crayons in his mouth (just turned one) but we are trying to teach the concept of "crayon goes on paper!" I think he might get it by cruise time:)

Elasta-girl - I definitely like the idea of bringing a couple of gifts for everyone and delivering them at different times during the cruise. I think it might be more fun that way, but we will do what everyone decides.

And just to let my fellow dis'ers know....I am officially driving DH crazy by reading the disboards. Just read another thread about decorating hotel rooms and I had to inform him that we will need to decorate our room when we get back from the cruise:yay: And maybe have some Halloween treats available:) Love Halloween!!!

While I have never done the fish extenders before, here is what I think would be fun and work well, especially with all the kiddos. I had planned on picking up a lot of little fun things to bring on board (candy, disney erasers, pencils, and various little souvenir type items, and something grown up for the big "kids", a.k.a. adults). A few random times during the cruise I thought the boys and I could run around and distribute the items to all the pockets of all the FE's on our list. That way, the kids will have several little surprises to come "home" to when returning to their cabins or waking up in the morning, and the grown ups will get surprises from time to time as well.

Personally, I won't be offended if people only put things in the bottom 2 pockets of our FE as DH and I won't feel left out if you just want to give out kid stuff on one of your turns. I also don't feel it's necessary to designate times or turns for people, I'd rather it stay sort of anonymous so those who might want to bring lots of loot won't make others feel like slackers if you only give out one goody to everyone. This also keeps the planning to a minimum so all we really need is a list of state rooms and which ones have kids, so I know who gets :cutie: princess stuff and who gets pirate: pirate stuff, KWIM?

So there are my two cents...anybody else? I just want to keep it simple but fun.

I totally agree with everything you just wrote. :thumbsup2

DH made a couple of magnets for me for the cabin door. I also went to Home Depot and got some of the paint samples shaped like Mickey ears. I cut out the ears and put a magnet on the back. I saw a pic of someones door who did that. I thought it was a good idea. Some people make ears to go on top of the cabin door # so it looks like a Mickey head. This will be our first time decorating the door. It should be fun.

lol.
So no snorkeling for DH then. :) My sister and I sometimes travel together and we went on a snorkeling tour together. Well we both found together that she gets freaked out in 20ft of open water!:scared1:  So for our next trip she stayed on the tour boat while I snorkeled. She is more of a shopper than a water sport person.

No problem there, because I CAN swim but I can't snorkel either. I tried it at the Shark Reef at TL at WDW and almost drown. I am a nose breather and tried to do that with the mask and snorkel. Well, the mask sucked onto my face and in my panic to get air I opened my mouth larger than the snorkel and sucked in salt water. I coughed with such spasms that I wet myself, poor fish. I did the rest of the swim without the snorkel and just turned my head above water for air. That worked out much better. I have goggles to wear in the water down there, but they don't include the nose. This way I can still see the fish and other things under water, as well as I can see without my glasses, but not suffocate myself in the process.

I've been over on the disigns board collecting images for a couple of months now. I used a couple to make DS a shirt for his birthday. It came out ok. They have the images of the ears for the cabin door there. They also talk about having blank mickey ears for people to sign and a wipe board to leave messages. All good ideas!! I have my work cut out for me.

Hi,
It's me again...still reading the boards. Just noticed that some of the cruises have cool nicknames and was wondering if ours has one??

My 4 year old is a girl...I don't have my cabin number yet either...right now we are evacuated in Waco from Hurricane Gustav...pray that it is not as devastating as Rita or Katrina...
OK so 7 groups for the FE exchange right?

familyfun5--is the new baby a girl or a boy? (Congrats!! btw)

JustinsMommy07-does your DS like to color?

Queenbee99-is your 4 yr old a boy or a girl?

Thanks!

Can we add on the first page who all is with each participant? It would be easier then fishing for the threads to find it...I have me, dh and 4 year old girl...I am really doing this for her so if we aren't including adults that is fine but if we are I would like to be able to plan for it...:thumbsup2

I'm glad you are in a safe place queenbee99. I hope for the best for everyone involved.

We should come up with a name for our cruise! Any ideas anyone?

I've added the children listed on the FE list--- the entire traveling party is listed right above the FE list on the Roll Call list in post #14. Hopefully I've captured everyone to date!

Also, Dyerneeds and Tartannihilator--- Congrats :yay: on your new grandchild this week!!

Cheers,

Thanks for the congrats. I'll post pics when he comes. Right now we're trying to work out a babysitting schedule for Addison (our 2 yr old dgd). I guess I'm going to have to take off work. Too bad...;) :rotfl2:

I see a lot of talk about fish extenders... Is everyone doing the dis tags? We did it on the last cruise and had a great time.

We had a lot of people doing it. We'd get to our room and find a gift on our door, so we'd have to take another to someone else to keep the chain going. So we'd run up 3 decks of stairs and come back to our room to find another on our door. We'd start laughing and go hit the stairs again. :lmao:

I have to say, we got our excercise. :thumbsup2 Those of you doing it will have a great time. :cool1:

I am just going to buy some fun gifts for the kids and adults who are part of the exchange and put them in their FEs. I hope everyone is good with that. I don't expect anything fancy.

That tag thing sounds a little time consuming. It is only a 4 night cruise afterall. ;)

It's a lot of fun, but it does take time. We did it the last time because it was a 7 day cruise and ours took more time because we had so many people.

We did the same thing... things from our state, small photo albums, buttons, magnets, etc. There was a wide assortment of things.

Good for you guys!! We just had a son in June. Had my most miserable day was fathers day, then the next day Jackson was born. Just when I felt like he would never come. (Justthe8ofus it is a boy thanks for asking)

Fish extender ideas sound great!! I like the tag idea, however I’m afraid I would not keep up. This is our first cruise and I envision not being at the cabin often; however it may not turn out that way with a young baby? With the tag idea do you only give to the same cabin as they are next on your list? I have something small for everyone, including the kids. It has been a lot of fun. I am hoping to get ds 10yr envolved in passing the items out.
