October 16th actual 100th Anniversary - anything special planned?

They apparently shipped those costumes off to Epcot and Disneyland Paris!
Well that explains it. I think they underestimated the number of people who came on this day for a reason.

Several people did mention that they were having a celebration for cast members backstage

In my eyes what I think Disneyland is trying to do is focus less on anniversary celebrations and focus more on celebrations that are most enjoyable for people to see. When I was doing Youtube I saw little promotion for the 100th Anniversary Celebration and the only video that Youtube had was the Good Morning America segment on Disney's 100th Anniversary today and Disneyland should've done something better to honor Disney's 100th Anniversary today like have a celebrity host a show or be a grand marshal in a parade or have a singer perform a special Disney song like what Disneyland did with Leann Rimes's Remember When when Disneyland had it's 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2005. But they should've had a special party for all Disneyland visitors with characters in special outfits and not just the ball for Disney employees only. But I think this day will be the weakest anniversary in Disney history but I really they are waiting till 2025 when Disneyland celebrates 70 years and planning more amazing things for that day

I was in Disneyland on the 16th and absolutely nothing was done or acknowledged. Cast members deservedly got to celebrate, but not the public. In fact, there wasn't even a regular parade (just a cavalcade) and no fireworks that day which means there was even less than on a typical day. Even on Disney+ Day, they gave out special ears and had special photopass magic shots. Glad I took the 100th Anniversary tour (which also ended the previous day) on the 14th.

One other point, I heard that the Ball wasn't even sold out. Glad for those that attended, but obviously it wasn't what most of us wanted.

The ball was well attended. It was a really phenomenal event. Every little detail was thought of and guests were treated like royalty.

Tickets were $199/person regardless of age, so it was mostly an adult event. Tickets were available until approximately one week before the event.

D23 held a holiday event at the studios in Dec 2022. It was horrible. I wouldn't be surprised if people who attended the holiday event didn't want to spend the money on ball.

Less than a week. I still was seeing them for sale a few days before and briefly considered changing my mind about attending.

ETA: that holiday event ("light up the season") used to happen every year. 2022 was just the first time it had returned since covid.

Yes, I think they sent out the final details on a Wednesday and that is when they changed the website to say "sold out"

Yeah, so only 4 days before. Less than a week (closer to half a week than a whole week). And honestly? I think it wasn't actually "sold out". I think it was they had to finalize information to prepare. Not saying that's bad, just that it was available right up until the last minute it could possibly be available.

I know in a D23 group I'm in the biggest reason stated for not going was the relatively late notice it was happening. Nothing to do with disappointment in other events. For many it was too short notice to make travel plans and get time off work to travel and attend. If there had been more lead time, I think it would have actually sold out much sooner based on comments I've read.

It is strange to see how much the celebration at DLR already seems to be winding down with the removal of some decorations. Many of us assumed it would be like other celebrations that lasted 15-18 months, but we're only approaching 9 months at the end of this month and it's already seeming to be an afterthought. It'll be interesting to see what if anything returns after the holidays are over.

I saw that comment and was confused by it. The first notification I received was via an email on July 10. Maybe people don't read their emails.

Yes. Did you attend? It was nothing like it was in previous years.

It wasn't announced until early September at Destination D23. The first email I have mentioning it is dated September 14 (a handful of days after being announced and a couple days after they went on sale). All news outlets also corroborate the same time frame.

Are you sure you're remembering correctly you received an email two months ahead of everyone else? Others only had just over a month's notice. If you did get an email alerting you to it early, it was one that did not go out to many people.

No. It conflicts with my winter shows and I don't live close by. But the people I know that went enjoyed themselves and they've gone previous years as well. But I imagine many also gave it some grace since it was the first year back since the Before Times.

If you clicked on the "learn more" button, it took you to a page with more details.

Tickets went on sale September 12.

Edited to add images.

The title of the email was " NEW Special Commemorative Anniversary Issue of Disney twenty-three!" There were several topics and the one related to the gala said, "Disney 100 Gala Get ready for an enchanted celebration at the historic Walt Disney Studios this October. Ticket info will be shared soon." There was a "learn more" button under the listing.

On August 17, the email was titled "Only the BIGGEST HSM fans spotted these details!" The subject said, "Celebrate with D23. In celebration of the 100th anniversary, D23 is bring the magic to the Walt Disney Studios on October 15." It also included a "learn more" button.

Yeah. I got neither of those emails. We both know Disney IT is terrible and one can't always rely on emails from Disney for information 😂. The Hocus Pocus Fan Event discounted D23 tickets? I learned about it from a group. When I called they told me I should have gotten an email that said they didn't go on sale until a few days after the page about the deal went live. The page itself didn't say anything about that. I never got an email. So I, like many others, are heavily reliant on social media for information sharing. And even then it's also a reliance on the algorithm to make it cross your feed 😂

From the quotes you've shared, they don't give enough useful details for anyone who needed to make long distance travel arrangements. The first just says October. Even that August email with a date would only be two months. Some need more than that. Some may have needed to know more about what the event would be before making plans. So still a fact that the exact details were not announced until Destination D23 happened. Some people just need more lead time than others.

I imagine there were also people who had already made OBB plans and couldn't add in a second trip if not covered by their existing trip (or may have had a party conflict). I certainly will never judge anyone who needed more notice with greater details. Wasn't my reason for not going (and I had a few although I was tempted when I ended up with the time available), but I respect it was true for others.

I'm glad you got to attend and seem to have enjoyed yourself. Also glad you were able to see the heads up that something was coming and make it work for you :)

Tickets went on sale September 12.

Yup. That's what I said. Two days before I got the email with details (that I already knew about prior to the email thanks to social media)

Yeah, D23 tours and special events and Adventure by Disney tours are the only way for the public to visit there, right?
In today's D23 newsletter, they shared that the Light the Night holiday event will be on Dec 10. Tickets go on sale Nov 3. It didn't say that it was exclusive to Gold members. You might keep your eyes on the website for details.
