October 12, 2013 - Western Caribbean on the Fantasy!!!

Heading out on Friday to Nashville, TN for my nephew's high school graduation. Just a long weekend, then back to work on Tuesday. Looking forward to when I'll be heading to Port Canaveral!!!

We had a very nice trip to Nashville for my nephew's high school graduation. Was able to visit with family that we don't see very often. And my nephew and his girlfriend came back with us for a visit to Louisiana.....his first trip back to Louisiana in almost 7 years since they moved after Hurricane Katrina. He will visit until Saturday when they fly back to Nashville.

Next trip.....our October 12, 2013 Disney Fantasy Cruise!!!!!

Permission to board requested. We booked this cruise last week and are very excited. We are Adrianna (39), Scott (38), Aidan (10), and Lucy (6). This will be our 6th cruise, 5th on DCL. With this cruise completed, we will be able to say that we have sailed all 4 Disney ships. I've only read through the first 10 pages, but so far it seems like a lot of people have those extended aft balconies on Deck 10. We had 10660 on the Dream in December of 2011 and loved it! This time, with only 5 months until sailing, all of the 5Es had gone. We are trying one of the 4E extended balconies on Deck 5 in the hallway that deadends behind the kids club. 5652, I believe. After seeing ssanders' pics of the those balconies looking down from his 5A, I'll have to hope that people eventually bore of looking down at us and find something more interesting to focus on. We really are quite boring! Nope, nothing to see here.

:welcome:!!! Happy you and your family will join us. When the Dream was about 6 months old, my DD & I stayed in 5158, one of the extended balcony staterooms (5E at the time before being re-categorized) and loved it. Yes, sometimes people were looking down but it didn't bother me. You still get a little area of privacy near the sliding door in an area the size of regular verandahs. A lot of room out there. This time we are in 6144 with a regular verandah. Our group is me, my DD(24) and my Aunt. Although my DD is 24, because of her mental disability, she is more like a young teen. Getting really excited (well really, I have been really excited for a long time) and looking forward to meeting everyone.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I imagine that we'll forget about all of those people above us as soon as we start relax and spread out. We have used our balconies quite a bit in the past when the kids were younger. It gave us a place to escape after little people bedtime. Now that they are older, it may be of less use. I do like the idea of four chairs and all of us being able to eat breakfast out there comfortably.

I see from your signature that you have Shades of Green eligibility. Are you military? My husband is on active duty. The cruise is during my kids' fall break, so no missing school that week. Our dilemmas are whether to pull them out early the week before for some WDW time and if we do, where to stay. I am kind of waiting to see whether or not the room only military discount gets extended into the fall. Right now it expires Sept. 28. SOG is nice, but sort of bland. Decisions, decisions...

Although we stayed at Shades of Green this past Sept., we were guests of a friend who sponsored us. She is retired from the Air Force and we took advantage of the room special last Sept. and the military ticket special. I really enjoyed staying at Shades of Green although I don't know if I will ever get the opportunity again. But you are correct, for a hotel on Disney property, it is a little bland (Disney-wise). But it is a beautiful facility and we enjoyed our stay.

I so enjoy sitting out on the verandah in the morning with my coffee from room service and danish or cereal. Even though I will have a smaller verandah this time, I plan on using it at least in the mornings and to relax in the evenings before bed.

Although we plan on staying one additional night after departing the cruise (my aunt travelling with us has never been to WDW), we are staying off property. We will do one park, spend the night, and then leave early Sun. morning for our drive back home.

abitagirl: Bland indeed, but in the midst of it all! Every year, we offer to sponsor family and they decline. If they only knew the money we were attempting to save them.

luvmygrl: We last did the Western when our kiddos were 1 and 5 (see picture below) so we are looking to have bigger adventures this time. I think we are looking at Stingray City in Grand Cayman, Dolphin Encounters in Costa Maya and the Tulum ruins in Cozumel. Maybe parasailing for Scott and I on Castaway Cay. What about you?

Thinking turtle farm in grand cayman, chaccoban in costa maya and still unsure about Cozumel. Maybe the dune buggy and beach snorkel.

We were looking at the Chaccoban in Costa Maya, but it looks like you need a whole day, and we are only there 5 hours. If those are a possibility, we might have to change our plans.

When I said bland, I only meant because it is not decorated in Disney-style, but the resort itself if really beautiful. We were on the ground floor facing the back and saw just about every day: turkeys, a female peacock, rabbits and even deer. Loved that we could walk over to the Polynesian and catch the monorail, or watch Wishes Fireworks from the Beach, and the Electric Light Pageant. The Shades of Green bus system is really nice and always right on schedule. And as you mention, we saved money, all while staying in the biggest rooms on Disney property. Would definitely stay there again if given the chance to be sponsored. So show your family my post to let them know what they are missing, because although Shades is not a "Disney owned" hotel, you are right there on Disney property so close to everything.

No worries. I think SOG is bland, too. Really. We just can't do rack rate on a Disney room, so without the military discount, they are our only option if we are going to do a stay at the World. JetBlue has a direct flight between Austin and Orlando that I have been watching, and the prices rose slightly this week. Only by $10, but with 4 of us, that's a Disney lunch.

Adrianna- Looks like we will be neighbors (Next cabin)! We are in a 4E as well, and had 5150 last year, the balcony is huge! We actually had our friends over for a sailaway party on it. There is plenty of space under the above verandas for privacy if needed.
Looking forward to the 120 day mark coming up soon to get things booked!

5650 or 5654? I know 5654 was available the day we booked but then disappeared. If you have 5650, I will tell you that I am jealous. If my balcony is three times the usual size, then that one looks to be nine times the usual!
