Yes, I do empathize with those who've had their cruise canceled.
But, I do have a different opinion than most I've read so far.
It's a 3 Day cruise on October 28. There are plenty of reasons why
I don't find this truly horrifying.
1. I was bumped off a cruise booking in 1997. I was able to find
another ship to sail instead, and it worked out for me. I didn't let it bother me, and I still had a wonderful time. So yes, I have been there!
2. It's a 3 day cruise. I can understand that companies often
charter short cruises like this.
3. It's October 28th! Not only is this during hurricane season, it
is probably a slow season for the ship, anyway. Who's to say that
Disney didn't request the company to charter that date to
inconvenience the fewest amount of pre-booked guests? I know that I probably would if I worked for Disney Cruise Line.
3a. It's 6 months from now, too. Many people don't book a year early like I do. (Yes, I'm one of the people that book a year in advance!) The people who booked early have been given compensation to change their cruise dates.
4. Disney is still a business, last time I checked, and they can do
what they like. The other cruise lines charter cruises for groups,
so why shouldn't Disney do so?
Yes, Disney made it frustrating for many of the people who were booked on that cruise, but Disney shouldn't be vilified for doing what is considered an industry norm.
I'm sure my opinion won't be very popular, but I'll stick by it.
