oct cruise cancelled

I know it is not the fault of the company or person who booked the cruise. That is not the point. Any boycott if any would be token at best. It however may cause this company to make mention of it to DCL and this could give DCL something else to think about when they go about ruining many others people's vacation to make a buck or two. This thread makes me wonder if all cruise lines are indeed alike. See my thread on "our horror story" that was with Princess Cruise Line.. smjj

jiminyC_fan,
I notice that your signature is a quote from the old Disney. Clearly the new Disney has forgotten that message.
I suspect that their response to this issue is more along the lines of "Hakuna Matata"....

I am no accountant but the math does not add up for Disney. Yes they made a quick buck with this move but they have upset a few thousand customers who were booked. These upset customers will tell their co-workers, family, and friends about the DCL experience and these co-workers, family and friends will intern tell their family, friends, and neighbors about it and so on.... In the long run I think it will cost Disney big bucks in lost revenue. This lost revenue can never be measured because it will never be know just how many did not go Disney because if this.

I know as of today they are out a $1,000 from me. My son and I were planning on doing 3 days at WDW before our cruise and staying on site. I had not reserved this but was planning on doing next week after I pay the cruise off. I am now going to book 3 days at Universal Studios. So thus far they have lost $1,000 based on their decision.

Best of luck to everyone effected by this and I truly feel bad for each and every one of you!

WDWGuru.........I was one of the cancelled 11/29/03 Eastern cruisers. I recieved "the call" Wed. before Thanksgiving at 5:30 about the cancellation. My flight was to leave @6:50 a.m. THURSDAY MORNING!! I know how you feel!!! One word of advice.....express your displeasure, but don't demand anything!!! We did a replacement sailing (Dec. 1 Wonder) 3 nights prior at WDW and 2 after. It was SCREWED UP!! That's another story. I see that that is the last weekend in Oct. Our DDs here in N.W. Indiana are off that Thurs and Fri for fall break. That would really upset me if they switched me on the dates DDs are off of school...........I did go into DCLs web site and that sailing IS unavailable to book.

I know this doesn't help much, but it did happen to us once with another cruise line (Norwegian). We ended up booking with another line.

WDWGuru........check your mail....you have a p.m.

Sorry, but the company booking should feel some responsibility here. There will be many people inconvenienced by their plans to take over the ship. There are many, many costs involved in organizing this type of event and PR is just one of them. You do not just throw your money around and displace others without consequences. DCL has chosen to accept this group over customers that have confirmed/paid bookings and if this is the way they are going to conduct business they will also suffer the consequences of future loses. It reflects poorly on both organizations to behave in this manner

First let me say I think it is a bad choice Disney made. I can't blame the company that booked the cruise if all they did was call and ask if the ship was available for charter that week and was told 'Yes' by DCL. It will be interesting when we find out who booked it, and how, (it is possible the booking was made for political reasons within the Disney company).

But I think I could adjust to an offer of a "NICE" WDW vacation to replace the booked cruise, and a 50% off for my next cruise.

I am so sorry for any of you affected by this. I think it is just awful.

Sending pixie dust that everything works out!

Just got off the phone with Disney Cruise Line.

This is their offer: They will pay for any change fee in the airline tickets and put us on the October 24th cruise with a 2 category upgrade. (not a big deal, we already had the cat. 7, they are upgrading us to a 5. Same size room, same floor)

But I still have the problem with the resort. I rented points from a DVC member and he has to see if he can get the dates changed.

Crossing my fingers....but still not happy with Disney.:( I wll be missing some scheduled events with friends that were planned many, many months ago.

Let me make sure I got this one right. They called you 3 days before your cruise & cancelled it?

Did they compensate you in anyway?

I did receive a reply from the email I sent Disney saying how disgusted I was with them cancelling:

4/21/04

Thank you for your e-mail.

We are sorry for the disappointments you have expressed. Your thoughts have been shared with the appropriate management teams.

We look forward to sailing with you on your May 15, 2004 cruise.

Sincerely,

Tracey, Guest Communications
Disney Cruise Line

They cancelled that cruise Dr Cavin because of the Norwalk virus.
I think most weren't happy with the "way" in which it was done, as opposed to the reason.
DCL just didn't seem up to the task of dealing with that many people so quickly. (Then again I'm not sure if many businesses could have.)

Cheers,
Grumbo

anyone have any idea of how non DCL travel insurance would handle this? I see that DCLis willing to pay the change fees for plane tickets, but say you can't go on other dates at all and did not use DCL for your air etc? I am suggesting to my friends who will be traveling with us on another date in October to get their plane tickets, but now, maybe they should wait. Less $ out of pocket if here are "irregularities"

As a former employee of Wells Fargo, they are the ones who got the ship in 2001. I heard about it, didn't sail on it.

Another former Wells employee informed me that they frequently charter the 3-Day Wonder cruise for their top employees and salespeople. October is a normal date for Wells in these type of events. I wouldn't be suprised.

I guess the good news is that it wasn't a 4-day or 7-day. I am sorry for those who are feeling the weight of this, and I hope you can find something of reconciliation.

Remember, Roy just fought a battle to stop this sort of nonsense, and only scored a partial victory.

Thanks Grumbo......yes, they DID call 13 hours before the our flight was to leave. They tried to take care of us for a replacement but they were not prepaired to take care of all of us on short notice. In hindsight they admitted they should have brought back the "sick sailing" early and accomadated them at WDW. They were ill already and their sailing was ruined!! Yes, they did eventually take GOOD care of us. We sailed for the 3rd time 11/30/03 and it WAS wonderful....or should I say "Magical"?

Well, it's not 100% but it's enough for me to feel okay with at this point. Just to recap, we booked this at our 11 month window with our DVC points, along with a stay before the scheduled cruise at BWV with a Boardwalk view guarantee room.

We are now booked on the 4-day cruise on the 24th for no extra points. We are in the same category cabins (a 6 and an 11) and on the same deck and they're giving us $100 stateroom credit for each room. Basically, we're getting a 4-day for the point cost of a 3-day. So far, so good.

Since this now puts us staying at WDW after the cruise, it's over a weekend, when the points are higher for DVC. Since DVC and DCL are separate entities, they can not give us the rooms for the same points we would have paid for our weekdays. They also can not guarantee us the Boardwalk view we acquired by booking at the 11 month window. They can give us priority waitlist status, which means if anyone cancels or moves, we're the first ones to take that spot. It still sucks, though, that now, because of DCL, we have to spend more points for what we were already going to do. They did have availability at VWL or OKW, but we're going primarily for the food and wine fest at Epcot, so the BWV location is really key here. For now we're booked preferred view BWV with priority waitlist status for the guaranteed Boardwalk view. We'll just keep our fingers crossed that it comes through.

To bottom-line it, we're getting a four day cruise for the same points as the three day, $100 stateroom credit for both cabins and priority waitlist status on our BWV reservation move. That's it. I'm not 100% happy with it, but I can live with it... at least for now.

I wanted to post separately and just say thanks to everyone here for the support and messages. It may not change the situation, but it's good to know there are lots of folks on our side!
