my aunt and uncle were going on a disney cruise in oct with her son and his family all paid for with docs and plane tickets and they were told today that it was cancelled someone had booked the whole ship for that week !!!! anyone ever have this happen ?? I feel so bad for them disney is going to pay them the difference it will cost to change their plans and tickets but still its a bummer for them . anyway just wanted to know if this happens alot

Do you know which week that is? We are booked on the Oct 9th Western?

Yikes, this is scary, especially since I have booked the Eastern cruise that starts October 30. What dates are the cruise that has been cancelled? This is quite an inconvenience for your relatives.

WAS YOUR FAMILY'S CRUISE A 3 DAY 4 DAY OR 7 DAY CRUISE?

WHICH SHIP WAS IT ON?

THANKS

They must be victim of a charter cruise. Large corporations do this for corporate retreats.

It happens more frequently of Carnival and RCCL (reading their boards occasionally).

In your docs, there used to be a clause that DCL is held harmless if this happens (I don't know if this is still there). In such cases you are bumped. I've read DCL gives you a voucher for rescheduling, plus statroom credit for the inconvenience.

I was wrong...it wasn't Nationwide but AllState (the good hands people). I found the thread back in Feb '04 about it.

I just called Disney, they told me it does not pertain to my sailing on October 9th, however they would not give me the sailing date it does pertain too? And from the tone in the Cast Members voice, it is happening.:bounce:

Oh No! My whole family (all 26 of us! ) is booked for Oct 24! I can NOT believe they would cancel people who had already booked and paid!

You may want to call DCL right away to find out! 800-951-3532.
Let's hope you are safe!

 Wonder how much that cost.............and who booked it????? Will we ever know?

:earseek:

It's the three night Ocober 28...look at the allseastravel wb site and it says chartered on that date.

Ok, I just called Disney in a near panic and she said it was the Oct 28 sailing which has been cancelled. (Well, she said it had been 'purchased'.) I am so glad it is not our cruise but I feel terrible for those who were booked on that one. It is true.

She said she didn't know who had purchased it. I asked.

That makes me angry. That is not fair at all. If someone wants to book the whole ship they should have to book it in advance before DCL opens the sailing dates to the public. That could really mess up peoples plans. What about people who have a really hard time getting vacation days. Ugh....I'm not even on that sailing, but I am really upset for the people who are.

I agree with Makaylee. I don't have a problem with them booking the entire ship, but it should be done before the dates are released to the general public. Is Disney willing to pay any extra fees involved in switching flights? So much planning goes into to a cruise vacation; it just doesn't seem right to cancel it 6 months out.

I so agree that the dates should never have been opened to the public in the first place. I can't imagine that ANY corporation plans a trip like that in less than a year! They should have a certain date in advance that they have to book so that this doesnt happen. I can't believe that people were booked & they kicked them off the ship. I think that it's sad that DCL will allow it's loyal, paying customers to be walked all over by huge corporations. Can you believe the polotics involved with vacationing?!?! If this happened to me I would have considered not going at all. Some people have to choose their vacation days at the beginning of each year, what if they can't take more time off? What about the flights? What about hotel? Not everyone will understand your cancelling. What if you can't get the same rate for flights & hotels the following trip? How do the other cruise lines handle this? is it the same? I am disgusted & have lost some respect for DCL. I guess I always thought Disney cared about people like us. Guess not, better to know they are going to have a full ship then take the chance. WE should all find out how much this "booking the whole ship" is & call ourselves the DISBOARDS & charter it for 2500 of us!! HA, that would be great!

I would be furious!! I have to pick my vacation for the following year in Sept the year before!! Once you pick those weeks they can not be changed so I would NOT be a happy person if DCL did that to me!!

Hmmmm, does this sound like another another DVC member cruise on the horizon?

I came home today from work with a message from DVC member services asking me to call them "as soon as possible" about our October 28th cruise. I live in Utah, so they were closed and I was planning to call in the morning. Just thought I'd get on here and sure enough, saw this.

I am BOILING right now! We booked this 11 months in advance, coinciding it with a DVC stay with my MIL and two nephews. With DVC being so full at the end of October, they better bend over backward to get us our preferred Boardwalk view and the same two cabins we had booked for the week before!
