Right now I think it's Shell, me, Tonya, MaryEllen (?) and Denise on the 3 night. Coming from Vegas it's would be hard for us to do the 3 night first, we would need to take off too much time to get there.

The reason we chose to go earlier this year was because I wanted to go to MNSSHP and Food and Wine Festival.

The more we look at it the more we don't think we can do it. :sad2: It's the same thing you note that the kids would have to be out of school too long for us to do the 3 night and then the 4 night. Looking at some other options for that time - maybe WDW; maybe somewhere more tropical....

Sad to know some are having to change trips but understandable. Well we have snow here after beautiful weather it went from 80 one day to 40 the next and then now 20s and 30s with snow i thought spring came. Glad I didnt plant any tomatoes and herbs yet. I am so ready for the trip i believe we have 216 days left till sailing day. I am ready to be sitting out with a bon voyage in my hand :) well hope u all have a great day I am off to get ready for church and a day of scrapbooking with my motherinlaw and sisterinlaw. :yay:

You and me both girl! I'm so ready for that horn to blow and for us to be headed out!

Jeff, sorry to hear that you all have to change your dates... We just our school schedule for next year also and ours is going to be about a week behind what it's normally been thanks to construction.

Nothing much going on here, just got DD signed up for softball and got all of her gear I think... DS loved his sister being home this last week for spring break. Hope you all doing spring break this week have a great week!

Off to read Jon's TR :goodvibes

Sorry to hear people are having to change cruise plans due to school schedules! I'm a bad parent that is pulling mine out of school for a cruise again. She will miss 3-4 days, depending on if we take her the day we get back. We have taken her out for 7 night cruises the past 3 years...she will be in 2nd grade when we cruise, and I feel life experiences are justifiable. She is a good student, and we will take her work with us. Of course, my brother has decided to take us on a cruise in February for our Christmas gift...she will miss another 2 days then. Seeing some of the great deals on the transatlantic cruises, I kinda wish I was a homeschooling mom!

I'm the superbad parent! I am taking the girls out for 7 days for this trip. I keep adding days on at either end of the trip (which my DH says has got to stop :lmao:). One will be in Kindergarten and the other in third grade. I checked to make sure there was no testing and no big projects scheduled for that time. I am also planning on having my mom overnight their first 4 days of homework to POR so they can work on it during down times and on the way home. I figure we won't be able to do this very much longer, so might as well take advantage of it. It's not my fault the school doesn't schedule their breaks when it is convenient for me! :upsidedow

We're also in the bad parent club. My oldest will be in 7th grade this year when we sail and we figured this will be the last year before he starts Middle School we can get away with it. The other two have plenty of time, but we will be planning trips during non school days after this next year.

My DW and I have never felt too bad about taking the kids out for trips to Disney or any place else. They get to learn tons when we're on vacation and the family time is the most important. We've also been extremely lucky that our school system is supportive of these trips. Our kids have been pulled many times for trips to Disney and other destinations. Makes me feel bad for those areas that are so strict about missing school.

Just a little over 7 months before we sail...it'll be here before we know it:)

Oh don't get me wrong. We take our kids out all the time - probably too much. It's just that this trip we had predicated on those two days off - trying to plan around it so for a change we wouldn't have them out for a whole week. As it is, we would take them out a week, come home and then they'd have 2 more days off. So that just won't work. :sad2:

The picture with Izzy just makes me smile....Daddy got her ready...love the hair.....:laughing:

Since they got married on St Pattys day, the guys decided to wear the kilts...altho the groom isnt Irish....but Heather has a little Irish in her...but again, I was sad that I was not there....but they are having something down the road...so looking forward to that.

Just got back.
Denise Heather looks beautiful. Love the kilt idea.

I am tired after being gone all weekend, so will post more tomorrow.
Just wanted to say hello.

Kathy

Morning all,
still rainy here in Oregon.:sad2: I am so tired of rain!!

I need a warm tropical cruise:goodvibes

hope everyone is having a good week,
I am working on the cruisemates list this week. There are a few blanks I need to get filled in by people, so dont be surprized to get an e-mail or PM from me this week so I can get everything together for the list and get it sent out to everyone very soon.

Kathy

Thanks Kathy for your work on the cruise list!

For the parents/school discussion - we're in year-round school. There are four tracks. At any given time three tracks are in school at the same time. Typically you are in for 9 weeks and out for 3 weeks. We start July 9th and end June 30th. It's awesome!! We get to vacation when others are still in school (and not around a holiday) and the test scores are better for the students as there isn't a 12 week period during the summer where they forget and you have to have a huge re-learning session in the fall.

It's been rainy here this week so far. Ready for some warmer weather and sunshine! :)

I hear you all when u say your ready for warmer weather! Me too i thought it was spring but all i see is cold rain or snow. Today it looked so blah that I decided to dig out my cruise shampoo and conditiner just so i would feel like i was on the cruise headed to warm beach lol well that shower didnt last that long lol. Hoping it gets warmer as the week moves on or at least for sun and the grass to start turning green.

We also take our kids out for a week each year for vacation. Well, just the one is school-age, but I don't see us changing our ways. We tried vacationing on spring break once and it was MISERABLE!

I really wish we had year round school options here in Florida. DH is a manager at WDW, so whenever DD is out on vacation, it is almost impossible for DH to get the time off. He actually was able to get her spring break off this year...kinds by mistake, and his team wasn't too happy that he still took it. Although, the super high weeks are the week before and after Easter this year. It's not just DH getting the time off, but everything is so much more expensive when the kids are out of school. You would think with us being so close to all the theme parks, the schools could alter schedules. I'm pretty sure a large % of the parents at my DD school work at WDW or other tourism areas throughout central FL. At least I am a SAHM now, not trying to juggle two Disney managers schedules around DD!

Love that you pulled out your H2O! I actually just purchased more Sea Marine products recently...was having an "I miss the cruise" moments. They do offer some pretty good deals from time to time on their website.

DD and I watched Tangled last night. We saw it when on the Magic in Nov/Dec 2010...it brought me back to that cruise...wish we were on again right now. 7 months from today we will be!

I always feel so sorry for families that come to WDW over spring break (or summer vacation, and the worst time between Christmas and New Years) for their first time. It is so crowded, and while still a great time, you don't get the chance to do near as many things due to the crowds. I always fear that they think WDW and other parks are always that crowded. When I was a manager at WDW I would always suggest to parents to come for a long weekend in the off season when kids are typically in school...a much more enjoyable experience.

This year hasn't been too bad. Since Easter is so late this year, schools have really staggered spring break this year. The counties around us had different spring breaks too, staggering over a 3 week period. We actually braved the parks...Sea World and Universal/IOA this year. We didn't think it was too bad, but since we have annual passes, we weren't stressing over getting everything done in 1-2 days either. I have so many friends that homeschool, and they take their breaks when everyone else is in school...better vacation deals, less crowds.

I am the mom that will continue to take DD out for some vacation during the school year as long as I can get away with it. I am so thankful DD principal understands that our family works in the tourism industry and therefore need to vacation during the school year. DD can miss up to 20 days of school, per state laws, but we try not to take her out for more than a week. After all, she does get sick from time to time.

We can't wait to board the Disney Dream 7 months from today! We were at Universal/IOA this past weekend, and we have been talking about our Halloween costumes this year. Even DH and I will be dressing up. DD has the Rapunzel dress from Tangled from our recent DCL trip, but she may change her mind by the time we sail.
