Just reading about the trick and treat, I had a mild panic that I have simply assumed membership and forgotten to ask to join our group of children ! Apologies if I have, and can they please join?!!

If we need to send $$ to anyone or bring anything, please let me know :)

Thanks. Do I need to send $ to someone or is the "we" all of us? So I know to pack candy if I need to ;)

By we I meant Ron (livingis2me) and I. I figured if we buy as much candy as we normally hand out on Halloween at home, (5 big bags) that would also be enough for our onboard ToT. :)

No problem! You're in! :)

Anybody who wants to bring candy or anything for the ToT is welcome to, I figured since we drive (and only a short distance) it would be easiest for us to bring the candy. Same with donations/contributions. Anyone who really wants to can, but it isn't a hardship for us to buy the candy we would have purchased anyway. :goodvibes

Also we welcome everyone's input. If you have any ideas or thoughts on how to organize or implement the ToT do let one of us know! And we will need 3 or 4 volunteers, one per candy "station". (I haven't discussed this with Leslie or Ellen recently so we may already have enough volunteers and I might have forgotten ;), I'm sure one of them will pipe in if that is the case.)

Thanks all, Jen:)

Is there a Costco near the port? I was going to pick up a bag in FL compared to dragging one down in the car from STL.

That means it is 99 days until my Birthday!!! :thumbsup2

A Disney cruise would be a great way to celebrate!

Are you doing anything "extra special" on the cruise to celebrate?

And Nenner1 - I have some plastic halloween rings (spiders, skulls, ghosts) in multiple colours that I'll donate to the TOT. I bought them a few years ago now but we have been at WDW for the past few Halloween's so I've never had a chance to give them out.

Well, thank you. I'm happy to either send some goodies to you (since you're driving), or send some money to help with costs! Just let me know. We live on a really busy street and don't get any ToTers. We usually just buy Morgan a DVD.

I can't remember if I signed up my Hope and Skye either...if not, please add them to the list. It sounds super fun!

No, the closest one is either in Winter Park or South Orlando both about a little less than an hour away.

There is a Walmart Supercenter 1500 E Merritt Island Cswy Merritt Island, FL 32952

We personally prefer the Target Greatland 250 Crockett Blvd
Merritt Island, FL 32953

The Target is within a mile or two of the port.

Not sure if I requested to include Catherine and Sarah, please add them. We will bring some candy to contribute to the cause.

For those new to DCL and the DISBoards you may not have heard about Shirley and The Perfect Gift. DCL offers some stateroom gifts that are delivered to your stateroom before you first board, but the selection is somewhat limited so for those looking for the ideal stateroom gift I highly recommend Shirley.

http://www.theperfectgift.cc/

She not only provides excellent service she is active on the DISBoards and is an invaluable local Cocoa Beach resource. Sometimes it comes it handy to know someone who lives in the area.

We are in Orlando for 3 days before the cruise, staying at the Buena Vista Palace which is just opposite Downtown Disney. I am hoping to pick up some boxes of wine to take on the cruise (I mean the small boxes with the silver bag of wine inside, to save carrying bottles). I am pretty sure I have seen them in Publix before, but can anyone help with the best place to pick some up? We have a car, but apart from driving to Disney, I'm not that au fait with the Orlando area as we stay down on the Gulf Coast.

Thanks!

Hey All! I haven't been feeling well at all - finally went to the dr and found out I have asthma :( The heat and humidity in South Jersey has been horrible and right now - the Air Conditioner at work is broken!

Anyway . . .

I added a countdown to our first post to the end of FE signups!

I need to update our schedule from home, so please I will do that as soon as possible - do you all agree it is a go with TOT being moved to 10/31?

:surfweb:

Oh dear  At least now you have a diagnosis and can treat accordingly. I developed asthma in my teens and once I had it under control, it hasn't caused too many issues for me. I really hope you start to feel better very soon :goodvibes

I think the ToT is best done on the 31st as suggested :thumbsup2

Krisces, is that correct, you are at 13 people for your group? I had 13 in my book, but found a post by you where you said 10, but maybe you upped that in a later post. Just want to make sure the numbers are correct. :)

You are correct! We are now 13~:)

Hi Jen,

I think we signed up for ToT (dd Michelle & dd Laura) and the lanyards (4 of us). If not, please add us. We will bring some candy with us also. We can volunteer to help. Is there an age limit on who can ToT?

One thought that I had is that if the ToT stations were held on deck or in public areas, other children on the ship might think it was a Disney sponsored activity and feel left out. Were the kids going to knock on the doors of preassigned candy station cabins?

Thanks everyone, Leslie, Ellen and I will happily accept all donations towards the ToT. :goodvibes

Jennifer, you don't have to send anything. :goodvibes For those who want to bring candy/goodies that aren't flying or it isn't convenient to bring along, the only thing I can think of is for those already purchasing lanyards if you want to include an extra dollar or two towards candy that's fine too, but certainly not necessary. :goodvibes I am sure we'll have plenty. Just the box from Lynn is like 2x2! (That's 2 FEET by 2 FEET!)

Speaking of... that's next week! (Lanyards) I will get all preferences tallied and then get the actual quote for the top-vote-getter design, and go ahead getting prices tallied/divided/distributed, etc. probably Sunday or Monday or early in the week. I will make the order the first week of September so you will have until then to get me payment.

Nah, I don't think we need an age limit. :) Although that might have been discussed earlier. I have an awful lot of PM's to re-read this week and make sure I haven't missed anything. But I don't see any reason why to have a limit. (Although most of the non-candy goodies will probably be more appreciated by the under 10 set.)

One thought that I had is that if the ToT stations were held on deck or in public areas, other children on the ship might think it was a Disney sponsored activity and feel left out. Were the kids going to knock on the doors of preassigned candy station cabins?

Well, we (as in the committee, and this was way back) I believe decided against the specific room-going since it holed up those volunteers in the staterooms (not much fun), and though Leslie, Ellen and I haven't discussed it much lately I am pretty sure we had narrowed it down to the spots the stops would be (girls- chime in if my memory does not serve me correctly!). I won't post them to ruin the fun but while public, all but one are fairly secluded enough to not cause too much commotion. One of them is pretty much right out in the thick of things but since it will just be a regular person (one of us, a volunteer) I'm not thinking too many non-Dis kids will think it is something official, and hopefully there will be enough going on that others won't notice at all. Especially if that particular volunteer is very discreet (i.e. gifts/candy hidden inside a tote bag). The fun part is the hunt and they won't get direct maps of where to go, more like clues. So the kids will have to figure out how to find the correct person. I guess we will devise a special mickeyhead pumpkin for the volunteer to wear on the shirt or something like that. I don't want it to be too obvious (but not so hard to find that the kids have to start asking passers by if they are the "one" LOL!)

Also the "stops" will be varied. So there won't be one huge mass of kids all together, just several smaller groups. My thoughts were at the initial start point (which could be a room, or a public area), the kids (in groups or alone with a parent or however they arrive) would select or be handed a scroll with the first clue. Those scrolls will be on three different color papers, or tied with different color strings and each of the three colors indicates the next stop. For instance if we have orange, purple and green, orange would go to location 1 first, purple to location 2 first, green to location 3. Then at the next stop that volunteer would give the kids the same color scroll which directs them to the correct next stop. So the orange path would be 1-2-3-final, the purple 2-3-1-final, and the green 3-1-2-final. The final stop is pretty secluded so it would not be a huge deal for everyone to converge at once if that's what happens. (I planned on making the scrolls so I would have them all done and tied and divided in a baggie out for each stop) :thumbsup2

So that's the general idea, without hopefully giving too much away. Like I've said we are certainly open to ideas and thoughts- so don't be shy! If you want to help and have an idea, we'd love to hear it!

I am now finally pretty much done with my old project and ready to move on to my new one. My video of my last cruise is complete*, although I was not able to upload it to youtube because of the music (certain songs cannot be played on youtube due to copyright issues). So instead I put in on vimeo but can only upload 500 MB a week, so that means 1 video a week for the next 7 weeks. (won't make that same mistake on my next video-of this cruise). At least except for the cuts and uploads it's done so I am moving on to this cruise, full steam ahead! :thumbsup2

*Anyone who is interested in watching it can find it here. Its a Royal Caribbean and this is days 1 and 2 (10 mins long).

I'm very happy that we paid in full today. Now I'm thinking about what to do when the calendar turns 75 days out. I read the advice about getting online at midnight to start booking things -- that is if anything is left by then. Sounds like Palo is the hot ticket and I am very confused about how the rotations work and what we might miss on board if we go there for dinner. Since it is our first cruise and we have little ones who love to be entertained by all things Disney, should I just avoid Palo so we don't miss anything going on while we are at dinner? We have main dining. I heard that you get the Tea Party tickets on board so I can't book that online. So what else is there to book on day 75 besides spa stuff? I'm not in need of any excursions as my family is doing the hop on hop off thing in KW, Captain Marvin's with Judy's group in GC and Nachi in Cozumel. The only thing we haven't planned for is CC and I'm thinking that my girls will love the kids beach and when they get tired of that we'll do the family beach. So what have I forgotten?

And a logistics question about the online booking : say I'm online at midnight and still confused when I see what choices are out there. Does the online system kick me out if I don't make a decision within a set period of time (say five minutes or what)? Do slots for Palo start to disappear before my eyes while I'm making a decision? Can I book something that night and then get online another day with changes or additions?

Sorry for all the questions.:eek::eek::eek:

I was thinking that maybe I could bring some lightweight non candy items such as halloween tattoos or stickers as we are very restricted on our luggage from the UK (plus our vacation is almost 3 weeks in total, so we will need all the space we can get!)

If there is a final figure on the number of children involved, that would be useful to know so I can be sure we have more than enough treats.

WOWOW - your video is AMAZING! I watched the first part and I can't believe all the cool stuff you did! I wish I could do that

Also - really enjoyed the musical selections. It's funny cause we just bought tickets to see OAR last night!~ :thumbsup2

Sorry for all the questions.:eek::eek::eek:

Don't be sorry those are great questions! :) I'll address each one specifically:

Now I'm thinking about what to do when the calendar turns 75 days out. I read the advice about getting online at midnight to start booking things -- that is if anything is left by then. Sounds like Palo is the hot ticket and I am very confused about how the rotations work and what we might miss on board if we go there for dinner. Since it is our first cruise and we have little ones who love to be entertained by all things Disney, should I just avoid Palo so we don't miss anything going on while we are at dinner? We have main dining.

That is the challenging thing. Its hard to get a feel for things until you have been on a cruise and actually done it and know what to miss and what not to miss. LOL our first cruise Palo ended up on Pirate night.. (and we actually liked that!) But there are a lot of variables to take into consideraton.

First off as far as Palo goes High Tea are the most coveted reservations. This is because it is a very limited seating. I have never been to a High Tea, so I can't tell you too much about it. There was one reservation left at 90 days out on our last cruise (at midnight on day 90) and it went immediately so you would probably not be able secure these reservations.

Brunch is the next most difficult Palo reservation to get. On my last cruise there were 3 (three) brunch reservations available at midnight on day 90. They went immediately (we got one of them). Some of our dis meet group were successful in getting brunch reservations once onboard but some were not.

Dinner had a lot of options. At midnight on day 90 there were many different time slots for each night of the cruise still available. We were easily able to select what we wanted. By day 75 there were still plenty of options for dinner open and I do believe everybody who wanted a dinner eventually got one, although many did not get the day or times they desired. We also had an itinerary change and a rotaiton change so most of our group were at Rockin Bar d changing our rotations or Palo or both. Most were able to do this.

So that give you a little bit of an idea of what to expect come 75 days out. As far as how to make your choices, that will take a little research. I can tell you that you probably will not want to miss your "show" night at Animator's Palate, which will (sigh, should-they do change things up sometimes) be either night 1,2, or 4 depending on your rotation. There is a very special surprise that your kids will enjoy. You can check out the "rotational" menus and see if there is one you like less than the rest (we don't care much for Parrot Cay's rotational menu for example). You won't miss anything special in PC or Lumiere's on the rotation nights. Villains night I have not experienced yet. Pirate night there is a fun parade in the Dining Room, the servers are in Pirate costumes and a special Pirate menu. So you might not want to miss that night (night 5). Nights 6 and 7 have special menus (Captain's Gala and Til We Meet Again) but nothing too much of events in the dining room. There is a big final parade of servers on the last night. So you have to weigh those things and try to narrow it down to a night you think you might want to go, then call DCL or your TA and request the dining rotation that will put you in the restaurant you want to be in that night. For instance we like to go to Palo on night 2. So we request the rotation that puts us in PC on night 2 and make our Palo for that night. Being a newbie I would see what is available for Palo at 75 THEN make your rotation request around it. Sometimes if you want Palo you kindof have to take what you can get and then schedule around it.

Not much, except CC reservations like floats and snorkel gear, etc. which you can do on the island. The kids beach and family beach on CC are one and the same. Unless you meant in the kids club (Scuttle's) that isn't actually a beach, it is located "inland" (yes there is a sand pit but it is not on the water).

We are doing all the same excursions as you!! :goodvibes Looking forward to it!

Of ocurse you aren't in need of Flounder's Reef reservations but the inital 20 hours are also available for booking for those of us who meet that criteria. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

And a logistics question about the online booking : say I'm online at midnight and still confused when I see what choices are out there. Does the online system kick me out if I don't make a decision within a set period of time (say five minutes or what)?

Yes, you do get logged off for inactivity, I think it is 10 minutes.

Do slots for Palo start to disappear before my eyes while I'm making a decision?

Yes they do, I saw the High Tea disappear before my very eyes. LOL. They don't pop away until you refresh or try to book though, then you just get an error and go back to the now-open choices (they have changed the site up a bit since the last time I did this so I am not 100% sure it still works like that, but it did back last time I used it)

Can I book something that night and then get online another day with changes or additions?

Sure can, we changed our Flounders up many times.

Hope that helps, and I didn't confuse you. I know that is a lot of info! :)

I was thinking that maybe I could bring some lightweight non candy items such as halloween tattoos or stickers as we are very restricted on our luggage from the UK (plus our vacation is almost 3 weeks in total, so we will need all the space we can get!)

That is totally fine! :goodvibes I do have lots and lots of tattoos already. ;) I know what you mean about needing your space. If I were packing for 3 weeks, I think I'd need a U-haul or a POD. :rotfl2:

If there is a final figure on the number of children involved, that would be useful to know so I can be sure we have more than enough treats.

I don't have a full total. We are still open for registration, and I have been noting the ones that I catch on the thread and that notify me by PM. Leslie I think has a full list. The amount of children I have count of is roughly in the 20-30 range, but like I said Leslie I'm sure has a better list. :)

WOWOW - your video is AMAZING! I watched the first part and I can't believe all the cool stuff you did! I wish I could do that

Also - really enjoyed the musical selections. It's funny cause we just bought tickets to see OAR last night!~ :thumbsup2

Oh thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it! That first video is probably my least favorite of all of them but I do love the tunes. (Love OAR first I wanted Lay Down but it didn't fit as well as Wonderful Day! ;))

There is so much more to come!!! I wish I didn't have to wait 7 weeks to share it all!
