Oct 30 2010 7 Night Western (PART 2)

The call to "come pick them up" is infinitely better than the call they might have gotten, had the cops not come along....

Not exactly on topic... I'm just sayin...

Theron

Absolutely......I even commented to my hubby (who was a PO for 27 years and handled many, many DUI calls and the horror that can go with them) that the PO's were doing the kids a favor in the long run....God forbid they drank all night and then hit the road.

Hope everyone is enjoying the final days of summer vacation!

I was just reading a thread on the kids clubs and wanted your opinion on the "changes" I keep reading about. Is it really that bad? We haven't been on the Magic since 2008, so between the huge bracelets everyone complains about and the 'merging' of ages in the clubs.... do I even want to send my DD there?:confused3

Can the bracelets be taken off? I am thinking about my DD's beautiful dresses and the super expensive Shutters pics... ...seriously!:upsidedow

So... any input would be appreciated. Here I am with a bunch of newbies on this cruise, and I have been really talking up the clubs!!!

Thanks!

I have not seen the new arm band but here is what I understand that they are. You have the old band that can still be cut off but now they attach a plastic piece that has a computer chip that can be scanned that will contain all the childs information. It looks to be about 1" by 1" and maybe 1/2" thick. I do not think it should be that much of a deal while they are in the clubs.

If you want you can cut the band off just don't lose thart computer chip thing or you will be charged, I think 50.00 dollars.

I believe they will still transition the kids from activitiy to activity unless they need to be in the club to be check in before. I hope they still do lunch and dinners. I really don't see how they can avoid this unless they are going to close down as some folks would just not feed the kids. What if you were to leave them to go on an all day excrusion which is allowed. What then?

I think the biggest change is while in the club they are strickly enforceing the age group limits. If a child has an interest in an activity and can take part them they are allowed. I have heard many positive statement about this. It mean that siblings can stay together if this is what they want.

Again I have not had kids in the clus since they made theser changes but this is what I understand from reading a number of different comments.

Thanks everyone for your Kids Club comments! I hope that all the children like it!!

But I really have to see this bracelet....... it sounds just horrible!:sad2:

Thanks again
Kristen

WELCOME! :welcome:

My DH started our countdown calendar yesterday. He made a ship out of corrugated cardboard and painted it to look like the Magic. He asked me to find some Disney ribbon today...that's my mission :)

 Welcome aboard Rick and Family

:welcome: Rick and Family!!!

So is the drink called Konk Cooler or Conch Cooler? I've heard both, or are they two different drinks? The photo above looks like the same drink as in my Calendar on the previous page, and YES they are YUMMY!! But somebody remind me to NOT drink one of those just before my Waverunner ride THIS YEAR! LOL.

Well, I've started packing up the first of my completely packaged Adult FE gifts,,,,, into an empty 24 pack Beer Case!! DH was giving me a funny look yesterday when he saw me emptying out all his empty bottles! Well I think the Beer Boxes will Look better than the Diaper Boxes I used last year, Don't yall think? :thumbsup2

Problem is, I may need several boxes, and I can just picture the look on CM's faces as they cart our luggage to our stateroom :rotfl: ("Bunch of Alchies" OR they might think we are opening a store on board????)

In other news, I took my DS7 out to dinner last night at his Favourite restaurant, East Side Mario's, with his Sister (DD19, who had a job interview there for after dinner). Well, I was shocked when I asked DS to tell his big sister about our Vacation Plans this fall. (He's been told we are going to visit Aunty Linda and Washington DC). Well he goes and says "DISNEY"!!!! WOWA! I asked him what makes him think that? and he wouldn't tell me. HMMMMMMMM....... I reminded him about national treasure and then he said "OH Ya, the place that was in the Movie". Hmmmmmmm, me thinks they do know something, but as long as I keep playing along with the game plan, I could still have them guessing? And here I thought they were so oblivious! I think I'll start asking them to figure out which friend they'd like to go trick or treating with, and we'll make those plans. That'll throw them off for sure..... I think........

If you really think about it, the bracelet though not an attractive piece of jewelery has become a necessary implement in today's society. Disney is known for its customer service, but in the past has been knocked for it's security. That is what Disney is trying to do protect our children, and in the USA especially protect themselves from civil liabilities.

This will be my families first Disney cruise, and though my kids are either too young or too old for the clubs ages 3-12 where the bracelets are used, I would without a doubt have my kid wear the bracelet. As a retired cop in today's society children are the most vulnerable to any predator especially between those ages, they are either too innocent to know or trying to grow up too early. No matter how good we raise our children, can you really live with yourself if god forbid anything happened to a child that may have been prevented with the technology we have today. It is true that this bracelet can only protect so far, but believe me any protection should make you feel somewhat better when knowing your children can be traced back to you in an instant. I have witnessed peoples trauma regarding their children and probably over protect mine, but no one can predict that everything can be fine.

So I guess what I am trying to say is lets just relax about the bracelets, for photo's you can always pose your kids in a way that hides the bracelet. Lets appreciate that Disney is using it's money to ensure even in a small way, our family's safety and the protection of our beloved children so that as parents we can at least worry a wee bit less and all of us can have a safe and great vacation enjoying everyone's company.

See you all in 68 days and counting....

:thumbsup2I would agree that the bands are ugly but I have a four year old and no band no kids club for me. I know she will either freak out or love the dumb bracelet. This is a kid who refused to take off the life vest last year after the safety drill becuase she thought it was awesome! :lmao:

I guess for the picture part... I will figure something out. :rolleyes1

Is it October yet????:cheer2:

Found a photo from another diser, thought it showed the size pretty well. The box has slits in it that the band runs through. It is not taped. They fit the band on the wrist and snap it in place. It is waterproof! It reminds me of a watch a child might wear. Apparently, it's not a tracking device, just used to match the child with the parent or to know which parent to page if needed.

My twin girls are 6 and they will definitely be wearing those security bracelets. I'll just tell them it is an extra special Disney fashion accessory and they will be good to go! I wonder if it can be decorated with stickers or might that harm the tracking device/computer chip?

I like this idea, I can bring a bunch of Buzz Lightyear stickers and DS will be thrilled! :goodvibes

I think bedazzling it with stickers is a great idea!! Iam definatly going to bring some with me!

Has anyone started to make some signs for thier door yet?

I did some more reading and found that some CM's say it can be used as a tracking device and other CM's say no, it only tells them if a child is IN the club or Out. So who knows. Check out the photo of the bracelet I posted on the previous page, originally posted by another Diser to show the details of it. I think it's not so bad at all, and you can always have a child wear it around their ankle. I'll give DS7 the choice of wrist or ankle.

As for Door signs....Hmmmm, I've been busy making them for others, I haven't time to make some yet for myself! Better get working on that!

I totally agree with what you are saying, but my 6 year old will not wear the bracelet. After the last incident with the regular bracelets on our 15 day repo two years ago I'll be lucky to get her near the kid's club. Wearing that bracelet is not happening.

Unfortunately, this is a very sore subject, our 15 day cruise was completely turned upside-down when the CMs at the kid's club wouldn't relent putting the bracelet on her wrist and then on her ankle. The only offered to put a sticker on her back (which she wouldn’t wear anyway) after the damage was done and they had scared the heck out of her.

When Sarah left the club on the first day she refused to walk anywhere near the place. We had to cancel all our adult activities, it is something two years later that she still remembers, talks about, and saddens me that she has that memory.

Sorry for the vent
