Oct 30 2010 7 Night Western (PART 2)

Anyone on this thread besides me know who John Charles is?

If you love him as much as I do you will be happy to hear that there is a good chance he will be preforming on our cruise. I have never laughed so hard in my life. I am keeping my fingers crossed my info is correct and he will be onboard the second half of our cruise!!!

Wasn't he on the DDD? I swear I cannot think about "A Horse With No Name" the same way again! ;) Good times, we would really enjoy seeing him again.

That would be him. I found him on face book and he says he will be on board from 11/2 til 11/9. That would be the second half of this cruise and the first half of thew next.

Can't wait to see him again. Lois

Hi everyone! Hope everyone's weekend is going great!

Has anyone else noticed that our cruise is no longer showing up on the DCL site? I have not seen it appear for a few days now, so I guess we are sold out for now!

Just checked and it is not there even when trying to book for two adults only! Looks like we are full. Can't wait to get onboard and meet everyone.

Jennifer, I love your FE!! As for the pattern on the fabric, you'll just have to book some more Halloween cruises!! :)

And on another matter:

DS7 says to me today when I was discussing our Washington trip for this fall with him, "I hope there's no boats in Washington." I asked him why, and he said he doesn't want to go on a boat. I quized him some more about what he meant by "Boat", and he in fact said the "Disney Boat" LOL, UH OH!!! I have no idea what he was watching on Tv last night, I went to bed early and DH was in charge. But DS7 is saying he doesn't ever want to go on a boat again becasue he's afraid it will SINK. I told him, The Disney Ship would NEVER sink, but he's so far being firm. HMMMMMMM Now it will be VERY interesting to see his reaction at Sherrie's once he finds out the Big Surprise!!!!!!:scared1:

That is too funny. When we took are nephew at age 9 we aked him what he thought about the upcoming vaction. Now mind you we were taking him on only a 7 day DCL cruise. He said " I think it is OK except the boat part" He got over it real fast and had a blast. We still laugh about that. The moral of the story is none of us need to watch movie in which a ship/boak sinks!!!!

And you want me to video tape his "surprise"? :rotfl: If you get a "really Mom, that's the best you can do?" I'm going to loose it

I know for sure Daniel will be THRILLED BEYOND MEASURE, but TIM,,,, hmm I showed him the youtube video of the AquaDuck this morning and his response was "Well, that does look like fun, but I still don't want to go on the boat" (keep in mind he has NO IDEA about either cruise we have booked).

So as I just emailed to Kim, I have no idea how Tim will react, other than it will be one of two reactions, but in my mind, either one Will be HILLARIOUS to see!

My kids are SO oblivious! They see me working on my FE gifts on the dining room table and it's pretty obvious they have something to do with DCL, but neither of them have said anything!! It helps though maybe because I'm working on an FE for someone else, so maybe they think I'm making these other things for someone else also???? :)

LOL, I just read a thread on the main board where someone asked about unsupervised kids. The thread itself is not funny, it was a worthy question as it got me to thinking that yes, my son is 13 and will be able to sign himself in and out, and thus like last year will be able to wonder the ship on his own. We can tell him the rules ect... and what is expected of him behaviour wise, but then all we can do is HOPE he listen's to what we said. But then I had a thought run briefly through my head, upon remembering a bumper sticker I've seen a few times in my life, and thought, this could work great on a T-Shirt.... "If you don't like my behaviour, let my parents know in State room ###" :rotfl2:

OK, that was kind of weird, a double post just happened. The repeat is now edited (gone).

Yes I've got time on my hands today and I don't quite know what to do with it! THough perhaps, rescuing the Laundry I've been putting off, from DH's hands would be a very good thing to go do right now! I'm obsessive compulsive about hanging Cotton shirts and shorts to dry instead of seeing them get smaller in the dryer, but DH doesn't think that way...........

I like it!!!:thumbsup2 That is the best idea I have heard in a long time! DCL should give them out for free!

Kind of fun that the proposed "float out" date for the Dream is when we set sail. :cool1:

Hope everyone is enjoying the final days of summer vacation!

I was just reading a thread on the kids clubs and wanted your opinion on the "changes" I keep reading about. Is it really that bad? We haven't been on the Magic since 2008, so between the huge bracelets everyone complains about and the 'merging' of ages in the clubs.... do I even want to send my DD there?:confused3

Can the bracelets be taken off? I am thinking about my DD's beautiful dresses and the super expensive Shutters pics... ...seriously!:upsidedow

So... any input would be appreciated. Here I am with a bunch of newbies on this cruise, and I have been really talking up the clubs!!!

Thanks!

You're going to be in my neighborhood! Gillette is about 30 minutes from me (ah, without traffic :) ). Have fun!

We had a great time at the concert....we stayed at the Hilton in Dedham and it was about a 12 mile ride to the stadium. Hit some traffic on Route 1 going to the stadium but were lucky when we left....got out as soon as the concert was over and were out of the parking lot before it got too crazy.

Witnessed a parents' worst nightmare when we got there. As we pulled into the parking lot we got out of the car of proceeded to set up our little tailgate party. All of a sudden we see a police car coming down the aisle and then stopped and backed up to the car parked right in front of us. We then noticed that all he girls in that car were holding beer cans and did not look of age. Well the cops obviously noticed the same thing and that is why they backed up to them. They should not have been drinking at all but it was still sad to see them handcuffed and put into the back of a police van. They were shocked and humiliated as there were many people standing around watching. The police were very professional about it and never yelled or even raised their voices but they certainly were not going to let them get off with just a warning. I would not want to have gotten that phone call. They literally were in the parking lot for all of 5 minutes before this happened.

I kept thinking about them during the concert and wondering what was happening and if the parents had gotten there yet. Lesson to the young ones....don't drink before you are legal!!

I read the thread too, and I have to admit it has me a little confused. So I guess there are no more "transitions", basically the club and lab are just in the club and lab all the time? And the activities outside and around the ship are the "out and about" program..but if you want your kids to attend those either they have to be able to go and leave on their own or you have to take and pick them up? (And I guess they don't take the kids to eat anymore as well).

I don't know how it is going to be...those are significant changes compared to when we last cruised (age groups merging notwithstanding).

The bracelets, yeah I just don't even want to bother with that- they are huge. And like you mentioned- ugly with a formal dress. They don't appear to be as easy to cover anymore by placing a hand on top of it. It sounds like they can be cut off though, as long as you don't lose the transmitter. I have seen charges anywhere from $50 to $150 posted for losing one of those.

My DD is 9, and she is familiar enough with the ship that I am hoping she can have sign/in out privileges so that she won't need the bracelet.

I'll have to look into this. I posted on this subject in the main forum since it was such an issue on the 15 day cruise. Sarah didn't like the older, smaller version, there is no way she is wearing the lojack version.

Of course, I am being a little presumptuous that I can even get her near the kid's club entrance, much less inside.

Last time we were onboard we allowed my son- he was 9 at the time-check in & out privileges. This was before they had the lojack so he did still have to wear a bracelet when he was in the lab, or at least a sticker on his shirt. Hopefully they don't anymore.

I read somewhere- probably the main board- that during dry dock the Magic is getting the Edge- the tween club that will also be on the Dream. I'll be interested to see if that comes to fruition.

I don't know if the changes to the kids club was last fall, I never enquired. But the kids did not have huge bracelets and they do remember being taken to AP for lunch, so perhaps the changes hadn't taken place back then? My then 12 year old had said that our 6 yr old often joined as a group, the big kids in the lab. He remembers playing Wii with him in there. Both boys say the had a great time in the Club and Lab. Yet I will say there were a few times when I went to pick up my DS6 and he would be upset, very sad and miserable. Those times seemed to be when there was nothing happening in the Club, it was down time, where the computer lab was closed and all other kids were watching a movie. One thing I DIDN"T do then, that I WILL do this time, is read the navigator and help the boys pick put activities that will interest them, and have them go at those times. The only time I was miffed at the staff in the club, was one night when I went to pick up DS6. It was late evening, and one of those movie times and computer lab closed times. All kids were sitting, no one was running around, and the lights were turned down low. I couldn't find DS6. After a few sweeps of the room, I started to panick inside. I asked a CM to help me find my son, and she didn't do ANYTHING! Thats what miffed me. I finally found him, hiding in a barrel! This was a replica barrel, lying on its side on top of a crate, and had a little window that faced the huge movie screen. At the opening was a little girl, watching the movie, and at the far end was my little guy. When he saw me, he let me pull him out, and said he wanted to leave. He was upset he couldn't go into the computer lab. That part didn't bother me, it just told me I have to have him attend when there are organized activities. He's not a child that will sit back and watch TV unless in a movie theatre. But the CM that did nothing to help me find him, I was Not impressed with.

Anyway, on another note, I was sitting at my kitchen table this morning eating breakfast with my boys. I happened to look at my Calendar and wondered why I hadn't looked at it more this month, as it has one of my favourite photos on it. Looking at it this morning, I couldn't help but think that in 68 more days, I'll be on the Magic and closer to that Conch Cooler!

Happy Monday! I have a quick question - I know that some of the younger kids have been chatting on our kid's board but are the teenagers chatting anywhere too? Facebook or anywhere else? I would like my 15yr old to hopefully connect with some of our teens before we leave. It is so much easier going in to the Stack when you know someone. Thanks all!

Allison didn't like the small bracelet last year either, I'm doubting she will be happy with the larger version. She was not to thrilled with the Lab the last time. She did one or two activities (flubber, cookies) and played on the computer, but it wasn't something she was really asking to go do. I'm hoping since this is her second time, she might give it more of a chance.

Michael was in Flounder's last time, so this will be new for him. I had taken him into the Club last year and stayed with him, but it seems the activity that was supposed to happen at that time did not occur, the CM's did not seem that interested in involving him in anything, so we left after about 20 minutes.

This year, I am hoping they will go together for one or two things. Allison would like to attend some of the stuff they have in the club (like storytime, etc.) but she would never admit it. I think if she thinks she has the excuse that she is keeping her brother company, she will go "for him".

I do plan on looking at the Navigator and pinpointing activities they would like. I don't think I will send them other times unless they ask. Other than our Palo dinner reservation and our one spa reservation, there are no other times that week that they would need to go, unless they wanted to.

The call to "come pick them up" is infinitely better than the call they might have gotten, had the cops not come along....

Not exactly on topic... I'm just sayin...
