Oct 30 2010 7 Night Western (PART 2)

Packing seems to be coming along. As I have read through the boards, its a bit nice to know I'm not the only one that has had the panic attack. My son is pretty much done and packed, but my wife and I are still needing a few items. Not to mention the travel med kit of various items. Do any of you bring OTC meds? OR am I packing a little too much?

I absolutely pack a medical kit of pretty much every OTC med you can think of. Of special importance I think are the digestive ones, immodium etc. We also bring benadryl and allergy meds...heck we pack basically a mini Walgreens in a toiletry bag. At some point or other someone is always digging in the bag for something and its way cheaper than a visit to the ship Dr. ;)

Who thinks they will be showing the "Dream float out" on the Dumbotron while we are on the ship? :confused3

I think I read somewhere that it will be at 5 PM Germany time which is 8 AM EST, so it may be over by the time we get onboard. I would love to see a highlight reel though!! :thumbsup2

We still have 14 days to go.

Us too! OMG!!!!! :banana::yay:

I've bought a new package or bottle of every possible kind of OTC medication that is available.

The one thing I've found with disney is their selection of OTC meds is very limited (at least at the hotels - not sure about on the ship yet), and I will not purchase medication outside of Canada and the US.

If you're missing anything (at least for adults), drop by my cabin. I'll be happy to share - and I practically guarantee I have what you're looking for.

I travel with quite a few  items too. In addition, I carry temporary cement and filling material, along with cotton rolls and instruments in case of a dental emergency.

If your children are in braces, don't forget their wax, floss threaders, etc.

Oh my, THANK YOU for mentioning the braces needs!! The boys don't know about the trip and I'm the one packing for them. I had the toothbrushes and toothpaste on my list, but NOTHING for Daniel's braces!!!! WHEW! Lucky to have you on board!!:thumbsup2

Treasure Ketch has a limited supply of OTC meds, but you don't even want to pay those prices!! Talk about a captive audience. ;)

I believe Beth (tinkerbelltwins) asked about shipping and package size. I wasn't sure so I called DCL. The nice lady told me that she had never seen anything on size or weight limitations for shipping to the warehouse, but there are restrictions on what you can ship.

Outside of the obvious (guns, knives, ammo, explosives). It's funny how this has to be listed, like who would ship that kind of stuff?

Anyway, they mostly don't want you to ship food and drinks, especially alcohol. You are free to bring alcohol on the ship just not via the warehouse.

Jeff

BTW...they do require a packing list and it wouldn't surprise if they open the box at the warehouse just to make sure. I am only shipping desk fans so I don't care if they open it up as long as the fans get to the stateroom.

Wonder if they will laugh at mine...? ;)

Packing List:

600 Paper Scrolls

CAPTAINS MARVINS UPDATE!

Instructions for all of us embarking on this Excursion:

Please meet at the Captain Marvin's office in
the Waterfront Centre, located 1/2 to 2 blocks LEFT of the cruise ship
terminals, depending on which of the three terminals we disembark from. You
should be there by 9:15 that morning, with towels and sunscreen.

Your credit card that you made your reservation with is not charged until you arrive there and Captain Marvins prefer if you pay in
cash or by travelers' cheques at that time. The prices on our web site are
cash/travelers' cheque prices, but they also accept Visa, MasterCard and
American Express. The credit card price is 5% higher than the cash price
listed on the web site.

If the ship is there on time, but you do not show up for your trip with them,
you will be charged.

The tendering process from sign in at the Buena Vista Theatre to arrival at the sidewalk in Grand Caymen is usually anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. Based on this, It would be best to check into the Buena Vista Theatre between 8:30 and 8:40 am. If you are running a few minutes late, do not panic, Captain Marvins will wait!

Judy - or anyone! - do you know how long the tendering is likely to take in GC? I am wondering what time we should be looking to disembark to ensure that we get to Captain Marvin's by 9:15.

I can't believe how fast the time is flying by. I am entering the realms of panic now, work has been super busy, and my early start at packing has ground to a resounding halt! On the upside, I only have 4 more FE gifts to make  I am planning to make up the gift bags etc once we get on board which I know will take some time, but I am fearful of everything getting squished on our 10 hour flight!

A busy weekend beckons! But we are fast approaching our single digit day (Monday I think), and I can't wait to finally meet everyone :grouphug:

Nenner, can you answer that question? You seem to be the more experienced person on this particular excursion. What time should we prepare to get off the boat at? How long does the tendering take? Since we have to be at the Captain Marvins office no later than 9:15, what time do we get off at or get in the tender line for? :)

Of course! :)

It took us about 20 mins to a half an hour from arriving at the Buena Vista Theater (which is where you go to pick up tendering tickets) to the street on GC.

The process is like this: arrive with your party ready to tender at BVT. As you approach the entrance a CM will give each member of your party a ticket and assign you to a row in the theater (basically it is a lot like a theater show in WDW as you walk in you follow those in front of you to the end of the row.) You may or may not sit down- I think we sat down and got right back up. They will call your row when it is time to head down to your tender. You will follow your row with the CM ahead down the stairs to the tender boat. Once the boat is full (about 5 mins) you head to land, the ride takes between 5 and 10 minutes. Once arriving, it takes a few minutes to go through the security area and you emerge in an open air shopping center with many excursion tents and booths set up. You will pass through those and out of the shopping area into the street, where you cross the street and walk about a block to the left. :goodvibes

I can say Captain Marvins did wait a very long time for everyone scheduled to arrive. We weren't even on a private group like we will be this time, but they waited between 30 and 40 minutes for some college kids from one of the Carny boats to arrive. It threw our tour way late. So while we should all shoot for 9:15 do not panic if you are a few minutes late-they are not likely to leave without one of us. :goodvibes

Thanks nenner! :thumbsup2 So suffice to say we should all be in the Buena Vista Theatre between 8:30 and 8:40. I'll add that to the above update.

Janice, any chance you could add the Captain Marvin's update/schedule info to the main page under the Captain Marvin's section? That way everybody can check it easily. Thanks so much if you can :thumbsup2

Yes I'm taking some requests, so long as it's only a few photos to be changed. I will really help me though if you tell me "Change CI&S to Radisson ect..." and "Jet Skiing to Parasailing. I need to know what to replace specific pictures or graphics with.

So I've got :

PUDO: Change Jet Skiing and CI&S to ?
SSSTEELE: Change CI&S to Radisson, Change Jet Ski and Nachi to Snorkeling
HUNTBROWN: Change CI&S to Radisson, Change Nachi Cocom to ?
DIZNEY-CRUISER: Change CI&S to Beach Club, Change Captain Marvins, Nachi and jet ski to parasailing, Food & Wine and MNSSHP.

Let me know if I have those right for you and the spots with the question marks, let me know what subject photo you'd like in there. If no Nachi in Cozumel, what are you planning on doing there for that day :thumbsup2

Judy, Wow, indeed you the creative one! Please add my family to the "can we have that magnet group", that is, if you have time. Change out Jet Skiing to two tinkerbell fairies and change out Downtown Disney for the Wilderness Lodge. Millions of thanks.....

Oh, forgot to give you the names: Skye, Hope, Beth and Steve

Thanks for checking on this Jeff! My box just got bigger and my vow is to get it mailed tomorrow or on Saturday. Skye and Hope owe Sarah an email back. They loved the photos, especially all the stuffed animals. I'm sure we will be picking up a Sailor Minnie and a Sailor Mickey on board!

Beth

I think I've got everyone's Collage Graphic pm'd to them up to this point with just one exception.

Podsnel, I need some other info from you as to what you plan to see/do. I have the BVC logo, but need an idea of what to use to replace Downtown Disney. ie: southern most point in Keywest, MNSSHP, Mickey statue on the ship, another park map........

If I haven't pm'd you a graphic that you have requested prior to this post, sorry I missed it, and do let me know. :)

This is our fifth cruise and for some reason I am not stressing about what to bring. Whatever I forget will be the gain of the Rite Aid in Key West! ;)

Thank you both! Much appreciated.

LOL You would be surprised what people try to ship... including that which Cheech and Chong are into! The limits is interesting considering that we go up to something like 140-165 inches I can't recall off the top of my head. I would DIE to see a refrigerator box being shipped.

Also, if you ship anything Ups or FedEx Ground freight, just ask them what they are day commit is. Meaning if you shipped it tmrw, what day is the guarantee to arrive. Someone from Cali would have more trouble than someone from the Midwest. You should be fine to ship something ground on the 22nd to arrive on time at the port.

I didn't know about the packaging list. It makes complete sense since customs opens everything, reads everything, etc. I forgot to ask the custom guys about that the other day when they came for a visit. Happy shipping!
