I have a request in to my TA to book an oceanview room with a porthole on the Wish … I’d love to know how you liked your porthole rooms! We’ve stayed in a room with the virtual porthole and a room with a verandah, which I just couldn’t quite afford, so I went with the next-best option. Let me know your thoughts on it if you’ve sailed in an oceanview porthole room! Thanks! 😄

I’m going to follow along as I have a large porthole family room booked too for the fantasy in April. I’ve only sailed in a veranda since we are a family of 5 and usually that only what’s left by the time I book.

We've done a verandah (in Alaska) and a porthole (across the Atlantic to Bermuda). We loved our porthole down on deck 2! We could see things through it when we were in/near port, I liked having some natural light, and in rough seas the waves would splash on our window. We've booked an Oceanview on deck 2 again for our 2023 cruise.

We just did the large porthole in a single deluxe on the Fantasy and it was a really cool experience. Ive had all sorts of cruises and this view was one i wish we had available when we cruised with young kids.

We've done Oceanview rooms on all four ships, in rooms that sleep 3-4 and in rooms that sleep 5. We love the porthole rooms. The large ones on the Dream class that have the padded seat in them are the best. We've also done inside and veranda rooms and we tend to pick the Oceanview. The veranda hasn't been worth the extra cost for us. I know others swear by verandas. It's really a personal preference and I can tell you that our family loves the Oceanview rooms!

Our last cruise was in a family oceanview stateroom on the Fantasy. That porthole was huge, and the room was very spacious, too. Our room had a murphy bed that came down from the wall to lie right next to the window, and that is where my son slept and he liked it. Later this month I'll be sailing oceanview on the Magic, and am looking forward to it.

We've sailed inside, oceanview & verandah, and have enjoyed every cruise. As the one who pays, I find that if the price is nice, so is a verandah. If the verandah costs a significant premium, then I'm only interested if it's an unusually visual itinerary like Alaska. I like having sunlight in the room during the day, and an oceanview can provide that.

Is there a way to tell which rooms have the giant porthole and which rooms have the two smaller portholes?

We always do Oceanview rooms. I am not a verandah person and will just go to deck 4 if I want to sit outside. To my understanding most rooms only have 1 porthole. But I was in an accessible room once and it had 2 portholes and seemed quite a bit larger.

I am pretty sure at least on the older ships that only the lowest deck (deck 1) has the 2 smaller portholes. We've stayed in those more than once (and are booked on another). The smaller portholes are "real" portholes: they have metal doors that you can swing across and close. I imagine they are there as a real (if rarely/never used) seaworthiness issue, and thus are only needed on the lowest deck (or maybe decks, though I really think it's just that lowest passenger deck). The single giant portholes are really just large windows in a round shape. We like both of them - the smaller ones are still fine to stare out of at the water, but they are not something you can open your curtain and just have a view onto the ocean the way the larger ones are.
