Ocean/Beach near Disney?

We are going to Disney next week. Would it be worth it to go to the beach? Dd wants to see the ocean, are there any that are nice and not too far away? I am guessing we'd just be looking at it, not much of anything else since it is Feb! And are there places to buy shells around there? She'd be happy with a cheap touristy place to get some for her friends!

Someone who actually lives in FL can give you a better idea, but having visited several times, I can tell you that the west (Gulf) coast of FL is prettier, but you're looking at close to a 2-hour drive by the time you actually reached the beach. The east coast may be a bit closer, but still at least an hour away. In either case you would likely have your pick of touristy places to buy shells and souvenirs!

The space coast would be the closest beaches to Disney. You can look them up at www.flausa.com

We love Vilano Beach, but that's about 2 hours away from Disney on I-95.

I would go to Daytona Beach. We always visit there on either our way to or from Disney. She'll love it. You can drive right on the beach. It's right off of I-4 about an hour from Disney.

The gulf is much nicer and warmer water, but Daytona is closest. About 45 to 60 minutes. the gulf is 2 or more hours. You may be able to swim if the weather is cooperating. Driving on the beach is fun, too.

Daytona Would be the "coolest " beach to visit, since you can drive right out on the beach with your car. You never know you may hit a good day in Feb. but it has been VERY chilly here this week! YUCK! There willbe SEVERAl places to purchase seashell items, there is a place called SHELL WORLD on RT 192 i am almost sure it is just EAST of MEDIVIEL Times.

It hasa VW punch Buggy car out side literally covered with sea shells!
