O'CanaDis! Calling all Canucks for DLR tips

Thanks everyone. I'll be updating the first page of this thread and compiling all of your tips. Any other way to use points for travel other than air miles? Has anyone used Save-On Foods More Rewards? How about reward points from hotel chains? I'd also like to gather up ideas for the best times of the year to travel, specifically around Canadian holidays and school breaks.

Hi,
Our family has used the save on more points a few times for a package with Alaska airlines, and it worked really well. We now save our save on points for Disneyland trips.

In pricing out 5 day park hoppers for one adult, one child, I was given a price of $625 CDN (taxes included), from Flight Centre.

In looking at MouseSaver, it would be $544 USD. Current bank rates for USD is 12.5% and add another 2.5% for the credit card currency conversion. The $544 USD translates to $627.30 (today's rates).

Given that the CDN dollar is expected to drop, this cost will only go higher.

This certainly isn't a knock on MouseSaver as they are a wealth of information and there are savings to be had, but for us Canadians, it's worthwhile to at least get a cost from Flight Centre. I believe the 5 day PH is worthwhile to buy from them, but the 4 day PH should be purchased through MouseSaver/Ares.

And in case you wanted to know breakdowns of Flight Centre prices (taxes in):

5 day PH Adult = $324 CDN
5 day PH Child = $301 CDN

4 day PH Adult = $317 CDN
4 day PH Child = $295 CDN

Thanks, I'll add this to the front page.

I'm sorry, I don't really understand your question. Are you going for 6 days, and you already have a 5 day hopper?

Yes I have 5 day hoppers but this is the first time visiting without a 6 day pass. I'm tempted to buy an extra day as we don't have to be at the airport until 5 on our last day

You can get a 1 day 1 park ticket from way.com for $83 USD or hopper for $123. But I would recommend getting the 1 park ticket instead of the hopper if it's a half day.

How many people are in your group? You may want to plan something else for the middle of your trip, like a beach day or shopping day. You can rent a car from DTD for about $30 for the day.

Or, you could spend your last day doing a late Character breakfast at one of the hotels and hang around in DTD.

I will add this to the first page. Our Safeway is now a Save On, so I may start shopping there.

Re: Phones. T-Mobile is incredible! If you have an unlocked phone... (unlocked where you can use other carrier sim cards in it.) We buy a sim card with activation code before our trip (or, if you have an Ameri-friend who can order one for you for 99 cents, on T-mobile website, and have them get it shipped to their house, and they can mail it to you, better deal.) Once activated, we go for the $2 or $3 a day plan. It includes data, and has never failed us yet. Free texting and calling between Tmobile phones, and local numbers, to call back to Canada would cost more, but, you can also download and install google voice over there, and I think you can make free calls then, but am not sure.

I put this on the first post. I like Roam Mobility, though, because for about $4 a day you get unlimited free calls and text to U.S. and Canada plus 1G data, voicemail and caller i.d.

I'm going to look into the google phone thing, since I can never remember my Roam phone number that they gave me.

I promised DH that we would do one non-Disney day this trip so we are heading to the science museum in Anaheim. While we are there, the Mythbusters special exhibit is on!

Sidney? Lol. That's my mom's Safeway too. We saw them putting up the new signs last time we went.

Nope, Tillicum, but Sobeys sold all of their Safeways on the island and some of their Thrifty Foods locations as well. I miss my bonus Air Miles so much:(

Help Please. Submitting Canadian Passport Application later today.

Has anyone applied for a Canadian Passport in 2014 or 2013?

For Weight & Height section do we provide "2" sets of weight & "2" sets of height information (in metric & in imperial) OR do we provide only "1" set of weight & height info (EITHER in metric or imperial).

The current form shows (cm/in) in the Height section and (kg/lbs) in the Weight section.

Not sure if the form wants us to show BOTH metric and imperial figures OR for use to CHOOSE a system and make sure that we consistently stick to either metric or imperial measurements.

I'm thinking the latter? Choose one ... would be kind of weird to provide figures in both metric and imperial.

Thanks for your prompt replies.

I am sure one or the other would be adequate. I can't see why they would need both.

We use Roam and love it. I enter my phone number in my contacts do I don't forget it.

Thanks for your help! Was lucky and managed to get through to a person at Passport Office (wasn't sure if they took phone calls but they do!). She advised that we only give "1" type of measurement ... either imperial or metric so choose one system.

Reminder: indicate whether you are using (cm or in) & (kg or lbs)

Can someone explain Roam Mobility for me? I talked to them and everything seemed straightforward. Then I spoke with my carrier and was confused. On top of that, I've heard of customer service issues and lack of service in areas.

I have a Samsung S4 (Android) on the Bell network. I was told by Roam that, after doing the set up online in Canada, when I cross into the US, all I'd have to do is pull out my Bell SIM card, insert the Roam card and I'm done. That sounds too easy. I have read elsewhere that the set up often is very difficult. Thing is, you don't know if the online set up worked until you're across in the States and the Roam SIM is active.

I spoke with Bell and they said that I would have to use an unlocked phone NOT currently in use; as in, I cannot use my S4.

Can someone quickly outline the steps to get set up? Is it difficult/pain?

How is service in the Anaheim area? Are there "dead" areas other than when you're on POTC etc?

Yes, you have to unlock your phone, so you need to get a code from your provider. However, they'll tell you that this will void your garantee. So not a good thing if you haven't reached that limit yet. I think for me with Telus with my S3, it was after 90 day or something. Called them, got the code, unlocked my phone. When i cross the border, I swap the SIM card and there was a code to enter, i forgot because my husband did that and a couple of other things to do with settings, but all was clear and worked just fine. We used it a few times in Seattle and Hawaii, and it worked perfectly for us, and very very cost effective to call and text to Canada or between my husband and I if we split up during our trip to d our own thing.

Thank you. I have an extended warranty plan from Target that covers my phone for the life of the contract. I don't know if unlocking it would void that warranty (I assume it would). I will just bite the bullet and get a Bell data plan etc.

On a separate note, most people don't know that Target offers awesome phone deals, partly because they're taking huge hits. I negotiated my S4 for $50 (everywhere else was $200) on a 2 year contract, with free Otterbox case and car charger. I purchased their warranty for $100 which is good for the 2 years. It covers everything except intentional. If I don't use the warranty I get a $100 credit towards my next phone or a $100 gift card to Target.

My only concern is if they shut down my local store. And on that note, my local store is doing the best in the province and even still, sales are terrible. :offtopic:

Today went in PERSON to Canadian Passport Office to submit application for my child.

On application form, under applicant, I used my maiden name (form asks for surname given at birth).

When agent asked for my driver's license (ie. photo ID) because I was the one submitting the application, my driver's license showed my "married" name.

Agent asked me to "add" (ie. sign again) using my "married" name in the 2 signature spots for the applicant. She made a note in her files.

Therefore, if you're in the same situation when applying for your child's passport (situation being that you give your maiden name on the application but your photo ID shows your married surname AND you are the one submitting the application in person), I would suggest that you bring a photo ID which shows your maiden name "if you have such an ID" to bring.

For example, bring your passport if your passport is in your maiden name.

I don't know if the agent made a special exception in my case or if it's a regular practice thing for them. In any case, next time, I will bring my passport which is in my "maiden" name just in case the agent did a special exception for me today.

Hope you find this info useful.

Not sure if anyone has noticed lately, but we have been looking at the Costco Citypass tickets over the past few days and it appears they only have the kids tickets. Hopefully it just temporary as we will be picking up tickets for a fall trip.

I was finding that as well, but checked again this morning and the adult tickets were available again. Bought our 4 adults and 1 child tickets today!! Can't wait for July :)
