Let's assume you are rope dropping without any Fastpass+ but have the ability to obtain SDFP. Would you visit your first attraction then go to the FP+ kiosk OR go to a kiosk first thing?
When CMs and their guests were relegated to "day of" FPs, we would head to an iPad CM first. We wanted to avoid unnecessary Standby waits if FPs were still available.
But, on a SWW, we headed straight to wait in Chewie's line and then went to an iPad CM; we still found ToT, RnRC, and ST were available for immediate/consecutive FPs.
It will really depend on what your "1st attraction" goal is.
How would you know you can obtain it? If SDMT is a priority and you do not already have FP, you should head there at RD. Later in the day can also work or you are staying until the end of the night.
It is my experience that SDFP availability does not change much within the first 30 minutes (or maybe even longer) of park opening. I have found that riding 1-2 rides at rope drop with little to no wait and then getting SDFP works best for us.
