Early December was my first trip since Pleasure Island has been "open" and according to the CMs that I spoke with at the Adventurer's Club, they will probably be going back to the old way.
I am not really going to say which side of the issue I am on, I will just point out that there was a lot more children in the Adventurer's Club than there have been on my previous visits. I counted at least ten times where the Adventurers had to remind each other in mid-gag that there were kids present, and at one point Samantha even stopped in the middle of a song and stated that she would have to change the lyrics because there were little ones present.
With that we still had a great time in the club, and the little ones being there definately did not curb my alcohol intake or really effect my time. I am of the opinion that the Adventurer's Club is, without a doubt, the best attraction in WDW.

Thanks for the info. Thats interesting. I wonder why the open gate policy would cause there to be more kids IN the clubs since they still have to pay to get in.
Ive been twice since the new policy, once in the clubs and once just walking around. Both times I noticed quite a few kids outside, but when I went in the clubs, I didnt really see many in there.

Many times what happens is that guests have plusses on their tickets and for whatever reason (weather, etc) they aren't going to use them at the WP and the parents really want to go to PI. Since it is already paid for, and cheaper than a sitter of a kids club, they take the kids with them. My DD LOVES the Adventurers Club.. she is 10 and it is the only club we allow her in when she goes with us. It is part of the PAP which both my husband and DD have.

As for going back to the old way... no word on that one way, or the other.

That makes sense to me eeyore, but its always been that way with those passes. Im questioning why the "new" open gate policy would affect the amount of kids being in the clubs. I can see why it would cause more kids being in PI, because thats free, but there is still a charge to be in the clubs(unless you already have the plusses).

Who knows... the most logical thing is the cost of childcare vs the new lower price to get into the clubs. One night, w/ tax is $18.06, vs $10 per hour at the Kids Clubs. Wonder if we will see a difference if they do go back to the admission to actually get into PI?

Oh I see. I didnt realize it was cheaper to get into the clubs with the open gate policy. I thought the 18.06 was the cost of admission before, which only has to be paid now if you are going to the clubs.

I'd bet that even if they do go back to the closed island, the admission price wii not go back up.

If you have 3 kids making it $30 an hour it really puts the price out of range.

Maybe it would be nice to have a special kids club at PI that would be a more moderate price.

Just thinking.

I like that idea... a kid's club right there, so you don't have to worry about rushing to get back by midnight or your kids may turn into pumpkins... sorry, that was really bad!

The price went down sometime during the summer. It used to be somewhere around $21 with the tax. Not only that, if you purchase an AP for PI, you get it for 15 months, vs 12 months. Not a bad thing! It has definitely increased traffic on PI, and I am sure that the outside vendors and merchandise shops are benefitting from the open gate policy. I would think it might hurt those that work in the clubs, as many will come in, listen to the music, have a couple of drinks, shop and never set foot in a club.

I really wish they would go back to the old admission type. I don't want to go to PI and be clubbing with a bunch of kids around me /shrug. Or at least limit a few places like the Adventurers Club to 21 plus. I'll be going to AC soon and I'll let you know how I feel about the new policy if it is still going on. I think having children in that place and having the CMs have to watch what they say as a way of ruining it. Originally PI was for adults. Maybe add a club for children that "families" can go to.

I don't usually comment on issues on the DIS but I just feel in this case that a club for families would be a step in the wrong direction.I really think that PI should be adults only where you don't have to think about setting a bad example (although manners and consideration for others is a given no matter who is there).
I have 3 children of my own and I am looking forward to PI as it will be a small break from them in a 14 day schedule devoted to them. I will get to have a drink, have uncensored conversation and not worry about whipping my head around in 10 directions just to keep an eye on them. This place should be a little retreat for the over 18/21's. Let the kids have the rest of WDW, I just want this little break.

BTW, I don't feel comfortable bringing my kids in to PI full stop, as there is naturally going to be an alcohol-induced culture all around. let them discover this for themselves, when they are old enough to do so. 9PLease don't flame, this is just how I feel about MY kids!)

The Adventurers Club is the one club I will let my daughter who is 10 go to--- she loves it and pretty much understands everything they are talking about. The show really isn't anything that children shouldn't hear until after about 11 pm, at which time most of the people with kids are leaving anyway. Even if they go back to the way it was, if the child has a ticket, they will allow him/her into PI. Compared to the price of Child care at WDW, taking a kid to PI is a bargain. Adventurers Club will never be a 21+ club, it is family friendly. The only 21 + Clubs are Mannaquins and BET Soundstage.

My dream...

Make PI adults only (18+, of course drinking at 21+). Make all the venues at the BW family friendly. Put a themed entertainment like AC at BW (I'd like to see something Tina and Tony's Weddingish -big Jersey ethnic wedding with dancing and CM playing some parts).

I realize this is a common point of debate, whether or not children should be seen in the AC. My observations here include:

1. Every time I've been in the Club and a child has been there, the cast has picked on the child, although in a gentle way, giving the message to parents that a brief appearance is okay, and long-term presence is not. I've heard the cast ask the child:
"so do you hang out in bars at home?"
"hey we have a pygmy here tonight, what tribe are you a member of?"
"ever been in a room full of drunks before?"
2. The Colonel sings drinking songs. The Club salute involves drinking. The audience is actively engaged in drinking. This sounds like a college and up aged atmosphere and audience.
3. The gags and improv revolve around drinking, with the more than occasional and sexual reference.

Fortunately I've not been in the Club when the cast needed to water down the material. This wouldn't make me too happy.

I realize there is the "this is Disney" crowd that believes children are appropriate at all times in every place in the world. I beg to differ. I believe a few spots are adult appropriate. I especially feel for people like fixx13, who although traveling with little children, are having an adults only night out. In my opinion, they should get that adults only night.

"Kungaloosh," a general purpose greeting, meaning "hello," "goodbye," and "don't touch that, it's dead."

I don't remember seeing any signs (though I may not have been looking) to indicate "children welcome but adult material" I think some of them may have stumbled in thinking family atmosphere. I know those of us on the Dis tend to be obsessive readers and planners but I think some people are probably mortified with what they unknowingly exposed their children to.

There is a place for adults only... it is Jellyrolls and no one under 21 is allowed in. It is quite a lot of fun, if you can stand the smoke!

There are several adults only places. But I'd rather see ALL of PI adult only - and all of BW family friendly. I think that would be easier for people with kids and without to have clear lines.

Having just returned from Disney and a few visits to PI and the Adv Club (our favorite hang out) I have to say that I like the old admission better. It was like getting through airport security trying to get in to the place! You get a green band for 21+ at the outside bars, then you show ID at the entrance to any club and get a stamp, then you enter the venue and show your park ticket to get another band that means you can go to any club! What a hassle!

They also had the free previews up until 9pm which meant that after an Adv Club library show they check wrist bands and shuttle out the people on a free ride. The previews had more kids than usual. And the club had more children in it than usual after that too (when I think about it), and I'm on the fence with that. I think after 10pm there should be NO kids in there, IMHO. They get the rest of the parks, let the adults have this one.

I am in total agreement with you..I love to be in an adult only place for a few hours without my kids or quite honestly without anyone else's kids around

During the day, I will tolerate crying, whining, complaining, etc.etc. but come the evening, I don't want my chair kicked, I don't want to hear whining, I just want to enjoy my 2-3 hours alone with my husband, with just adult,so to speak, entertainment, enjoying my martini.

Oh believe me I wasn't suggesting that we NEED to have a spot for kids. (no kids myself), I'd prefer 21+ like the old days, but if Disney is doing this to attract the crowd, they may need to make a seperate area where people can bring their kids and leave the other clubs at 21+ for those without. That would satisfy all the needs. Or as alot have stated just go back to the old ways please!
