Observations, Good Deeds, Sickness and a Kidnapping! Part 1
I wont be doing a day by day report. Most of the trip I was by myself and you dont want to read about the people watching. Though people watching is a real spectator sport, I think enough has been said about inappropriate dress and painful footwear. But I do have to say that some pooh sized women expose a little too much skin for their size. Before anyone starts jumping on me for picking on larger women, I am a large women. Of course there were smaller women exposing too much also but on a larger person it is more noticeable because there is more of it. Enough said.
Lets start with some observations:
1) I did not get run into by any strollers, ECVs or even walking people - though I did have to dodge a few center path stoppers. No big deal, being by yourself is very handy for maneuverability.
2) No rude people that I can recall.
3) More kids screaming, crying or otherwise throwing tantrums. One particularly bad one at the Living Seas waiting for Crush. Screamed, yelled, cried, kicked, all while lying on the floor. Mom sat next to her trying to calm her. Took quite a while. She ended up hand feeding the child (maybe 5 years old), which I thought a little peculiar. I guess good old fashioned discipline has gone out of style. My son would have been removed from the location but its been along time since he was a small child so I guess times have changed.
4) Many drivers in the area apparently dont think the rules apply to them. - Coming out of the premium outlets shopping center you need to get in the left hand lane to make the turn. Well the line was long, so some of the privileged ones decided to do their left hand turns from the clearly marked right turn only lane. This could be where all the disney line jumpers go to practice their art but with possible disastrous consequences.
And then there were the drivers who were on the road to AK but did not want to be, apparently missing the road signs directing them to stay left for AK Lodge (or Sherberth Rd if thats where they wanted to be). Instead of just proceeding thru the parking lot booths they were backing up and trying to go the wrong way on a one way road. I was on that one way road going towards them in the right direction. What is with these people? (and there were many). Just go thru the booths and explain that you made a mistake, no one is going to force you to enter Animal Kingdom. Im sure they would just direct you to the proper exit.
5) I observed rolling backpacks, duffle bags and suitcases being dragged around the parks. Even saw a rolling suitcase with a duffle bag on top of it pulled along. What are these people bringing into the parks?
6) I saw some smokers choosing to ignore the smoking areas. But it could have been worse.
I noticed no line jumping. No rude cast members.
Did see some dirty restrooms with stalls not working. Many stalls were tied shut, some just ignored.
7) I picked up my rental car at the Disney Car Care Center. Only one person in front of me and 2 agents working. One of those agents was on the phone trying to explain to a customer that the Car Care Center National Counter closed at 5pm and there was no one who could pick her up or deliver a car to the Amtrak station in Orlando. She was trying to convince the customer to call National at the airport. Dont know how that one ended.
8) While waiting for Wishes to start, I spied Mickey Mouse. Well, not really Mickey, but a little gray mouse. Cute little guy. He looked at me, I looked at him. But he disappeared when I moved to get my camera.
9) I brought a folding stool into the MK so I could sit up on the train station to watch Specto. The stool is small, comes in a carry pouch and when folded is a little bigger than a folding umbrella. Good investment and no problems bringing it into the parks. With a pocket blow up seat cushion it was comfortable.
Before Spectro the CMs in the street below put strips of tape down and played games with the children. Two of the games were Duck, Duck Goose and Simon (Mickey) Says.
10) How I made money at Soarin.
I was exiting the ride, walking in the area where the people entering are 1 floor above and can lean over to watch you pass. A dollar bill floated down in front of me from the entrance line above. I picked it up and looked up. It had come from some teenagers fooling around. I think they wanted me to toss it back up but it couldnt be done unless I tied it to a rock which I didnt happen to have. Oh well, I guess they learned a lesson on how they should not play with money. Too bad it wasnt a $20 bill.
