Observation on Dec codes

Maybe someone has had similar experience with this. Since I am the resident Disney expert for my family & friends I was helping my friend plan a Dec trip 12/8 to 12/12. She would qualify with the AP, Fl Resident & the general codes (obviously) . First we went thru DU, she really wanted either AKL or WL but was flexible with the resorts. The DU agent tried & NOTHING but rack rate ! Then we called Disney & again nothing at all at AKL & only courtyard view at WL. I then thought what the hey, let's try Disney online & BINGO both the AKL & WL available for her stay. She booked 2 standard rooms at AKL for $119/night. We then checked Expedia to see & they had rooms available for the fall rates.

Is Disney hoping people go online vs the traditional way of booking. I just thought this was strange but my friend's happy & that's all that counts !
