Obama's Aunt- she only get's one thread!

How about comparing apples to apples... these supporters are not the same!

As I recall, the Joe the Plumber info was ILLEGALLY obtained by a govt. employee.

The info released about Barack Obama's aunt is a court record, those are generally public record.

I am SO SICK of hearing that "Barack didn't know" about his associates and family members. It is a convenient excuse.

These records were retrieved (by whom, it's not known) showing a family member of one of the current nominees for president is in this country illegally, is defrauding her employer by working as a legal resident, is defrauding the govt. of tax dollars to pay for her housing, has made illegal campaign contributions to the campaign. In an article posted, she says she frequently travels between the US and Kenya. How the heck is someone so destitute they live in public housing able to afford to do that?

As I said...the outrage was over the top on the Joe the Plumber thread. Did I SAY that I didn't think that illegally obtaining information was unacceptable? Nope.

I'm pointing out that someone was digging into her past...as with Joe...and the McCain supporters went APE over THAT little tidbit. But, when someone is investigating Barack's OWN family...that is perfectly acceptable. Double standards much?

And the truth of the matter is that I don't give a rip about Barack Obama's aunt. I'm not voting for her...I voted for him. And as far as I'm concerned, Barack is not responsible for the illegalities of his aunt.

Are you going to take responsibility for your family and their mistakes? If so...good on ya'. But, I'm not that nice. I am my own person and as such, I'm only responsible for my own choices.

This boils down to the fact that the republican party is desperate...and they are searching high and low for ANYTHING that will pull a few extra votes. It's getting sad.

FTR, if John McCain had an illegal aunt...I wouldn't care about her either. Of course...if it were John McCain...I'm thinking that some here wouldn't have the same issue with that.

Nobody is arguing that this person should leave the county. How in the world does this reflect on Senator Obama?
Let's see...if he wins the election, then we have a president who has illegal family in the USA. Doesn't reflect on a president very well!

I think you are confusing the media digging into the backgrounds' of the candidates and their families, with government abuse of power. They are two distinctly different things.

Yes, the records were retrieved (leaked?)and now Homeland Security has been asked to check into the possible leak.

Democratic U.S. Rep. John Conyers of Michigan fired off a letter asking Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff to investigate whether someone leaked the information to the media in an effort to damage Obama.

"The AP reports that it 'could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved,' a very disturbing (suggestion) indeed," read the letter from Conyers, who is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

The Department of Homeland Security had no immediate response to the letter.

I agree you had had no beef with the abuse of power against Joe. The question is why? Do you only believe in protection from absue of government power for Democrats, or people who vote the way you do?

The British media was looking into her past. That's what the media does. Usually they are suppose to do that on a bipartisan basis, but our own national media only digs into Sarah Palin and John McCain's family. So the foreign media has taken up where they've abdicated their responsibility.

That's not what I said. But, thanks for spinning my words. I take issue with anyone using their status in the government for illegal purposes.

My point on that thread was that people were blaming it on Barack Obama...as if he had "commanded" a take-down of Joe the Plumber.

I don't give a rip what media was investigating Barack Obama's aunt. There was OUTRAGE at the media here in the states in their investigation of Joe the Plumber...a man who I honestly felt sorry for.

Double standard???

Absolutely.

I guess Obama doesn't have knowledge about a lot of things or people. We should call him No Knowledge Obama.

When that "truth" is spun in order to support a certain agenda...we refer to that as "grasping at straws".

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO so when I give you a series of Obama quotes to show that he has a history of stating "I DONT KNOW" as excuses for his hypocrisy & deceit....it is 'grasping at straws'.

If you want to believe that, nutin I can do about it.:confused3

That's for sure! The coverage and accusations of this election haven't been too biased.

That's not my point. My point is the double standards that clearly exist.

Whoever it is...there is a double standard.

When the MSM began reporting on Joe the Plumber, the McCain supporters went crazy over that. You can't deny that fact.

When someone used government computers to investigate poor ol' Joe...of course it was wrong...but rather than take issue with the illegalities of the situation...McCain supporters here on this board blamed Barack Obama.

Now...the media is investigating Barack's aunt...and who were they tipped off by? Who leaked this information? And this is acceptable?

I'm understanding more and more. As long as it supports your candidate's ideals...it's perfectly acceptable.

When it goes against ya'...it's time to tear people to shreads. Gotcha. You betcha. :thumbsup2

Generally, that isn't the way honorable leaders work: Rather, they use the law to impose a "consensus" perspective, not "somebody's" perspective. It is intolerance to impose one's own perspective on others. It is leadership to craft a consensus. McCain/Palin seems disinclined to bother with such matters of honor. Obama/Biden builds their whole message on such matters of honor.

This is the first time I have ever seen either BO or his pal Joey mentioned in the same sentence with the word "honor".....

It's just not something they're know for, now nor will they ever be...

You're right. There's nothing you can do to change my mind.

You linked together several stories in order to imply what exactly? Please share your implications with us. Were you implying that Barack Obama is hiding information? Were you implying that Barack is dishonest? Lacking knowledge? Stupid???

If I came to you and did the same thing (another topic)...linked together article after article that stated that John McCain had no knowledge of our economy based on his past statements...and used examples such as, I don't know...maybe him saying repeatedly that "The fundamentals of our economy are strong"...

What would my words be implying to you? Would you see that I was trying to make a case against your candidate and instead support my own agenda?

Well, if that's how you feel....the next four years should be wonderful for you considering Bush/Cheney. You have no problem with them, right?

Yet, it is, and they are. You don't like them -- I get that. :hippie:

And if they need government assistance, I'm responsible for them instead.

Actually, no more or less than I am...or anyone else for that matter.

Is it really your stance that I am the keeper of these adult women that I haven't seen in 30 years, and never had more than a passing relationship with? That I last saw when I was 10 years old? Really?

Yes it certainly could be more or less than I am - depending on our different tax rates.

My response was directed at your use of "instead," as if you would be assuming responsibility of these relatives for me, not about what the extent of that responsibility might be financially. IF they were receiving assistance, we would both be contributors to that, though potentially at differing levels.

I'd still love an answer to my question though.

I don't care which side it is. If someone has family here and they're illegal, I sure would like to know that. Obama can't get her back to Kenya quick enough. Again...MHO.

It's just sad that people here really believe that it is Obama's fault this woman was in the country illegally or that he is responsible for her in any way, shape or form. He has no control over another adult member of his family, any more than you or I would have control over another adult in our family. To hold him responsible is absolutely ludicrous. Those of you who do so should be ashamed.
