Obama Supporters, A question?

I assume you mean "gender" and not "race".

Does the name Anita Bryant ring a bell? This will show my age, but she was one of the most vocal opponents of the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970's. Gender means nothing when it comes to being prejudiced against women. I'm not saying that you are or that you are not, but your gender does not automatically exclude you.

So True.

I don't like how Hillary has run her campaign. And while no one has run it clean, she has run hers the ugliest. She interrupts candidates during debates yet wants people to like her? I wouldn't want to raise a child to be like that so why would I want to support someone like that. I'm not saying everyone else is perfect, but there's things she does that irk me and make me uneasy so I would vote for McCain, because while I don't agree with making the rich richer I'm not scared of him.

I'll never understand that. If you're a registered Democrat, and you agree with the beliefs of the party, why would you go against your own beliefs and turn your back on the party you support in order to support someone who is just going to continue the Bush regime? Most, if not all, Democrats are against the war yet if Hillary is the nominee they'll run to vote for a man who said that he'd stay in Iraq for 100 years?! :confused3 I don't understand that handful of people who hate Hillary with a passion, especially when her views are almost exactly the same as Obama's. Why would anyone completely turn their back on their own beliefs on policy simply because they don't like or understand a candidates personality? And what if Obama is Hillary's vice-president? I'm supporting Clinton but I also like Obama and wouldn't have a problem voting for either of them because I support the beliefs and policies of the Democratic party and find sticking to those beliefs important. I guess I'll just never understand doing otherwise.

I don't understand it either.

After much deliberation, because in my opinion both Democratic candidates are extremely passionate, intelligent, and capable politicians, I voted for Obama in the primary.

Obama's inexperience is a strike against him. But I don't think I can take 4 years of the odd and disturbing hatred the Clintons seems to inspire in not only the far right, but many shades to the left. Neither of the Clintons is perfect, but there is no one, and particularly no politician, who is. I have never understood the hatred and have always thought it extremely detrimental and shameful for this country.

But there's no question I think Hillary is a force to be reckoned with; an extremely driven and smart woman with true ideals, and I would without question vote for her if she is the Democratic candidate.

I would really like to know why you hate her so much, or if anyone can answer that question. What has she done that would make her the worst possible candidate?

I seriously am not sure why I hate her so much. I actually started a thread awhile back trying to figure out what the heck it is. But it's a gut wrenching, chills down the spine feeling and I really can't stand her. And if you ask other Hillary haters the same question, you'll often get the same answer. Intuition is what's driving me but I can't pin the exact reason down.
And no, it's not because she's strong and it's not because she's made some mistakes and played dirty in the past. Heck, I'd vote for Margaret Thatcher, Bhutto, etc I'd even vote for Martha Stewart for president over Hillary.

I think a very good question would be "Why are there so many Hillary haters and why don't they have a concrete reason?" it's seriously something to consider. :confused3

I don't hate Hillary, but she sometimes comes off as cold, pandering, and phony. She often answers debate questions without any smiling. She doesn't seem to pander as much as she did when she first ran for NY Senator (I wish I could remember my mom's description of her when she saw her speak at a campaign event on Long Island, but it was definitely pandering) and I don't buy all of the tears. It doesn't seem for real.

Still, I am in lockstep with her on many of the issues. I hope for Obama because I just like him, but I will vote for her if she is the Dem choice. But, I do understand why many do not like her.

I appreciate your honest answer, and I think that was what we were looking for, I on the other hand love Hillary and thinks she is very sincere when she speaks and I believe she really cares about this country and wants to fix it. I personally don't like Obama, when he talks it sounds like I am hearing a preacher talk. I want to hear what he is going to do for this country and I don't get that. I loved Bill in the white house and I hope and pray that Hillary will be next. If she doesn't get in I will vote for Obama not that I think he can do, but Mccain will continue the Bush legacy and we are in way too much trouble now. Its time to bring those troops back home, and I do have a loved one there also.

Now M Thatcher is someone who can induce a gut-wrenching, chills-down-the-spine feeling. :scared1:

I completely support Clinton but if she doesn't get the nomination then I'll have no problems voting for Obama. Based on what's happened in the White House these past eight years I can't see many Democrats switching their party support because their first choice candidate didn't get the nomination, especially since Clinton and Obama's policies are very similar. As "liberal" as some people seem to think McCain is, he's not. I disagree with him on pretty much everything and would never, ever give him my vote. Far too many of my strong beliefs go directly against his.

Here's to a Clinton/Obama ticket! Now THAT would be unbeatable :thumbsup2

My thought exactly!!!

After watching Extreme Home Makeover last night - I don't know why ANYONE would want to vote for a Republican. I know some might say it is off topic, but my brother is a Marine and I am proud of him and love him and support him and his brothers.

I am looking for the facts not so much opinions on those of their reasoning again if you are a REGISTERED Democrat you would go and vote for McCain Especially if you voted for Obama in the Primary I mean that is like oil and water. That is what I am just trying to figure out and it confuses and frustrates me.

Now we are on a message board where all of us can vent about anything in good taste of course so if you aren't going to share then don't comment.

This is an extremly serious election and every American should be voting.

A previous poster noted that they didn't like Hillary because she doesn't smile in the debates-------Ummm how many MEN smile in the debates. Do you know what she is up against? She is the first female with a good possibility of becoming President. She can't afford to be cute and nice and smile because then you are going to have people saying "She is too emotional" She is going to be our Leader (possibly) and she needs to be strong or else she will be looked at as weak and then no one will vote for her.

I have several reasons why I voted for Hillary and yes 1 is because I am a woman and think that it is time to show the world that a woman can be President especially in America. Why are we the last ones to have a female president?

By the way another point a previous poster had stated about Hillary is that she is shady - What politician isn't? I mean seriously I don't agree with her on everything but I will vote for either one Obama or Hillary come November.

The war is a big deal because that is why our country is in the state it is now, with no jobs, the cost of oil is insane and the economy is horrible - All because of the war that didn't need to happen..........

I again respect everyone and I just feel it is important to vote HOWEVER I like several others on here can't wrap our heads around the Obama/McCain thing?

I don't understand it either.

Hi! I'm new to this thread and new to the whole community board area, I usually spend my time in the ruise area, but I was looking around down here today and this post caught my eye. Just had to jump in and agree with you. There's no way I could go against all of my political beliefs and vote for someone who is totally opposite of what I care about, simply because my candidate of choice is no longer an option.

Cool thread!

It's good to discuss these things. I still don't see any reason to dislike Hillary so much but that's actually a relief. The more people that slam her for no particular reason, the more sympathy I feel for her and what she's up against. I think that this country still has a lot of growing up to do but I imagine that all nations go through these things. And I don't mean that the Hillary haters need to grow up - their feelings have little to do with my comment.

I'm a blue voter in a red state. It seems like the only vote that my vote counts is the primary, which I'll be supporting Obama. If it comes down to Clinton and McCain, I will vote for Clinton but I know my vote 'won't count' in general.

Honestly, I'm not all that fond of Clinton and I can live with McCain winning, but I want some fresh blood in office. McCain and Clinton reek of "more of the same" to me.

Ohio was a 49/51 state last time around. It's going to be a very close contest in 2008. Every vote is going to be real important.

Oh, I fully intend to vote, it's just disheartening because Ohio historically runs red.

I felt the same way when I lived in NC. I always voted, but I ALWAYS felt like a total minorty in that giant red state.

At this point, i think you'd have to consider Ohio a "purple" state, rather than red. I don't think anybody would be stunned if it went to the Democrats in November.

And don't discount North Carolina if Obama wins the nomination. He could absolutely be competitive in spots throughout the South.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 for everything you said.

I will be voting for Clinton tomorrow. If she does not get the nomination and it becomes a race between Obama and McCain, then I will have to watch the debates and make my decision in November.

I want to like Obama, but he strikes me as very naive on foreign policy matters. We are in the midst of eight years of foreign policy naivete and cannot afford for it to continue. I have a lot of respect for McCain, but I am liberal on social issues and suspect that he will be too far right on issues that are important to me.

An Obama/McCain race would result in a tough decision.
