May I ask a question? I don't mean any disrespect to anyone but people around me have told me that Obama won't salute the flag or put his hand over his heart during the pledge. Can someone tell me why?

Your friends are buying into the emails they get. It wasn't the pledge that he didn't have his hand over his heart, but the nathional anthem. That is the way he was taught by his father to stand during the anthem. Huge difference. I believe I posted on this thread a photo of Bush Sr. standing with his hands down at his side during the anthem. So I just don't get the big deal.

Sigh. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

(See the end of the page for your rumor.)

What your friends are telling you is a lie. It's part of a smear campaign that is only effective as long as there are people willing to spread the rumors. The kindest, most ethical thing you can do is read the snopes page, and then inform folks of the truth.

Everyday I think the arrogance can't get any worse, and then it does. :rolleyes1 Hillary and Bill must stay up nights trying to think of new ways to irritate and offend democratic voters.

Clinton camp says Obama must pass 'national security threshold' to be veep

"Senior advisers to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) on Monday sought to reconcile the campaign’s assertion that rival Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has not passed the “commander-in-chief test” with the Clintons’ hints in recent days that the New York senator would tap Obama as a running mate.

Howard Wolfson, Clinton's chief spokesman, said during a conference call with reporters that Clinton would not pick a running mate who has not met the “national security threshold” — as Clinton’s military advisers and Wolfson put it on the call — but that it is possible Obama could meet that threshold by this summer's Democratic convention.

Wolfson repeated Clinton's weekend assertion that picking Obama is “not something she would rule out at this point,” but he also repeated that Obama is not ready to be commander in chief, a key requirement to being Clinton’s running mate.

When asked if Obama could do something to cross that “threshold,” Wolfson said, “It’s not something that I’m prepared to rule out at this time.”

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3: Let the SPINNING CONTINUE...

For the love of all that is holy :confused3 The woman is so in your face it makes me sick... So run of the mill politically speaking that I wonder how the word Change could cross her lips....

This C-i-C test they talk about--is it like the SAT or is it an obstacle course? I keep hearing about a "threshold"? Is there a door somewhere he's supposed to open? :confused3 :rotfl:

One correction: It was his grandfather who taught him that, I believe. :teeth:

That e-mail thing drives me nuts.

Did you see Obama's response to the "VP" thing today? Long story short, it boiled down to: "I'm winning, so why the heck would I even consider accepting second place?"

That email drives me crazy!! I never put my hand on my heart for the National Anthem! I got it at work through our server...and I almost reported it to IT, but I didn't want to get anyone in trouble.

I almost growl when people say he won't make a good president b/c he is unpatriotic...Well our current president is very patriotic....but is he any good??

Well, I wonder if Hillary has reached this threshold & if so what exactly that threshold was??

Wvrevy, I did see the rally, or as much as was televised on MSNBC... I say GOOD FOR HIM.... he said what he had to say....

"Coming up next on: Gladiator, War for the White House, competitors will face Dick Cheney with a hunting rifle, a gang of lobbyists from the oil and pharmaceutical industries, Tom Delay wielding his Hammer of Doom, and a pack of angry white suburbanites who've been told their taxes will be raised 1/10th of 1 percent in order to feed the homeless! Watch the blood flow as our two brave contestants battle it out, only here...on Fox News Channel!

:happytv: That would get the electorate excited! ;)

:lmao:
Obama was just now live, giving a speech on that was carried on Fox news. He made it very clear that he's not running for Clinton's VP.

Hillary's belief that I was First Lady so obviously I'll make a great commander in chief is laughable. A close second is, Bill and I think I should be the president regardless of how the little people vote. And, as a bonus, maybe I'll let Barack be my VP. (Or, more accurately, our VP.....)

Keep on working hard Barack. We need a president who's honest, who has integrity, and who believes in and wants to be president of ALL 50 states.

We're behind you all the way!:cool1:

Is not hypocritical to want to be the Pres. of ALL 50 states, but only a few of those states are "allowed" to choose said Pres. Maybe Hillary can be the pres of Fl, OH and PA and Obama can handle the rest? ;) :lmao:

May I ask a question? I don't mean any disrespect to anyone but people around me have told me that Obama won't salute the flag or put his hand over his heart during the pledge. Can someone tell me why?

May I ask a question in response? Why does it matter? Does saluting the flag make you a better person? A better American? If you salute the flag in the morning does that make up for say.... authorizing an un-Constitutional wiretap in the afternoon? Does reciting the pledge make you smarter, more able to run the country? If you say the pledge does that make up for say....giving a lucrative government contract to one of your old cronies?

Can someone tell me why these outward signs of "patriotism" matter more than what a person actually does?

Well, in some peoples' small mind, that's all that counts.
If you can't form a rational thought, you go with what you got. And, want to bet that so many of those who are still passing this nonsense around aren't patriotic enough to enlist, vote, or pay all the taxes they owe.
But, somehow, the flag thing is the ultimate litmus test. Honestly, you wonder who would really want to be president of those type of people?

I just can't get over folks who forward, forward, forward lies. I truly don't know what the zing is that they get out of being a vector. :rolleyes1

I guess we just have to do our best to attempt to inform them, one Snopes link at a time. :sad2:

Yeah, Kos beat me to my reply. They had exactly ONE vote between them that was different for the purposes of that "most liberal" designation. Know what it was? Obama wanted an outside, independent commission set up to be an ethical watchdog over Congress. It was his idea...and yes, Hillary voted against it.

So...two questions about that: 1) How is pushing ethical reform a "liberal" issue in the first place, and 2) Is anyone surprised that Hillary voted against it?

Now that I know what vote "separates" them, one would think Hillary would not want to highlight that. And I'm puzzled too...ethics reform is liberal?

I'm so confused by her campaign - one day they are praising McCain and calling into question Barack's fitness for Presidency, then we have them putting the idea of a Hillary/Obama ticket in the heads of voters, then we have them saying he has not passed a national security test, then we have them saying he is too liberal.

Hillary can't even get an attack message consistent, let alone her reason to be President.

May I ask a question? I don't mean any disrespect to anyone but people around me have told me that Obama won't salute the flag or put his hand over his heart during the pledge. Can someone tell me why?

Just because someone reads something in an email or on the internet, doesn't mean its true. That email has been debunked here about 35 times. Really sad.

I want door number 3!!!!

Given Rendell's position, I think they might argue for that if their hopes for MI and FL don't pan out. ;)

Two more supers for Obama today:

Two more superdelegates today, one from North Carolina, one from Mississippi.

The direction of that movement is as good an indicator as any of whom insiders are laying bets on.

ALSO: To speculate wildly and semi-relevantly here, if Spitzer steps down, his Lieutenant Governor, David Paterson, is also a Clinton supporter. But he's already a superdelegate, as a D.N.C. member -- so there's a net loss for Hillary.
:thumbsup2

Randi Rhoads made an awfully good point on the radio this afternoon (I dearly love XM if for no other reason than that I can get Air America in West-by-Gawd-Virginnie ;) ). She said that basically, Hillary is running on her "experience", right? So why was it that her campaign was so monstrously UNprepared for every part of this "race" past Super Tuesday? Why was it that they were completely UNprepared for Barack Obama's massive ground support? Why was it they were so utterly UNprepared for the rules in Texas?

How can someone running on how prepared they are constantly show themselves as completely UNprepared for everything that has happened to date, yet continue to run on their self-styled preparedness? And how can someone who can't manage a campaign any better than that be expected to be believed when she claims she's "ready" to run the country?

Exactly! For someone who claims to be so great at managing things, how can she explain being so badly prepared for this campaign?

Remember her attacking Obama's managerial-skills?

Barack came to my dd's school and I got to shake his hand and he signed his name on the school wall. He was very personable and intelligent!! He will definately get my vote in November!!
