"In one week, you can put an end to the politics that would divide a nation just to win an election; that tries to pit region against region, city against town, Republican against Democrat; that asks us to fear at a time when we need hope."

Yep then we can move on to the politics that divide a nation just to win re election....

Wow... Goofylover was right!

But what if you don't agree with most of what he proposes or stands for? It always seems to me that when a Democrat says "bipartisan" they mean that Republicans have to abandon their principles and agree with them. I'm all for partisanship for the most part. When the parties agree one generally should run for cover.

"The men and women who serve in our battlefields may be Democrats and Republicans and independents, but they have fought together, and bled together, and some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a red America or a blue America; they have served the United States of America."
Barack Obama

Whats up with all the quotes today? Is that your instructions for the day? :confused3

Actually, now that I think of it, quotes actually aren't a bad idea; the Republicans have been trying to make people believe Obama is saying things he simply isn't. Here are his own words, his actual perspectives, for people to judge for themselves. Unless, of course, you don't trust people to make up their own minds, and figure you need to tell them what to think about Obama. That's a very patrician perspective, the kind I'd expect from the McCain/Palin campaign.

Hope! That’s what kept some of our parents and grandparents going when times were tough. What led them to say, “Maybe I can’t go to college, but if I save a little bit each week my child can; maybe I can’t have my own business but if I work really hard my child can open one of her own.” It’s what led immigrants from distant lands to come to these shores against great odds and carve a new life for their families in America; what led those who couldn’t vote to march and organize and stand for freedom; that led them to cry out, “It may look dark tonight, but if I hold on to hope, tomorrow will be brighter.”

That’s what this election is about. That is the choice we face right now.
Barack Obama

I am all for hope and unity.

So what exactly does this mean? It sound nice but how does that translate into government policy? He's already pitting "rich" against people who make less money. What's he going to do then the "rich" decide not to play along and make less money? Probably lower the definition of rich is my guess.

He also pledged to use public funds to finance his campaign, but didn't. He made some very left wing pledges to win the primary and has been attempting to disguise himself as a "centrist" ever since to win the general election. He is not a centrist. There is no indication in any part of his life, that he is anything but a far left wing liberal....until his recent tack towards the center. Something he needs to do to win. Its not believable by any stretch, except by the "true believers". He hasn't fooled me.

This coming from the guy who is running the biggest campaign of class warfare in my lifetime.

Just say no to Hopium... it's a substance that makes some people hallucinate and lose a good deal of their ability to reason. For example, they may think that the most Liberal member of the current US Senate is actually a Centrist and will act in a bi-partisan manner as President even though he's voted with his party 97% of the time and almost never reached beyond the aisle beyond votes that were, or were almost, unanimous and of no political risk to himself. Without a doubt, Obama is the best politician I've seen. I thought Clinton's head-fake right was impressive, but he can't hold a candle to the Junior Senator from Illinois! This guy could sell ice to the Inuit!!!

And before people write me off as being full of "fear" or spreading "fear", I'm not. "President Obama" doesn't scare me. Nor, to the disappointment of many here, will Obama winning the election ruin my day. In fact, part of me is looking forward to going back on "offense" after having to play "defense" against the Left for 8 years. I felt the same way a week before Bush 41 went down in 1992. There are also going to be a lot of people who will need our support once the Hopium wears off in about 6-9 months... the media included. As a country, we'll manage with Obama as President too.

Nope, I think the next four years are going to be pretty entertaining for those of us on the Conservative side of things. It'll be entertaining to try and watch Obama sell the "details" once in office and the vagueness of the campaign trail will no longer do. It'll be interesting to watch many of his ideas have to be modified to fit certain realities and end up not being much "change" after all. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Nan and Harry decide they don't want to sing off the same sheet of music as Obama.

I am all for hope and unity.
I'm for kittens and warm chocolate chip cookies too... "Hope" and "unity" are good things, but they are not an end. "Hope" by itself (or joined with "unity" for that matter) is feel-good meaninglessness. But, so goes it with the first "American Idol" candidacy.

This from the guy that DENIED funding (that he SAID he would give) to these
SAME people, strictly for a political reason, to make a point HIS point, that he was against the war. ALL ABOUT HIM and NOT about those serving HIM!

The military is NOT the one you TAKE from and I find it reprehensible!!

WHO'd he Hurt maybe even get KILLED, these same brave men and women that were sent to do the job they are TOLD to do, their DUTY.

Our Military deserves our RESPECT and OUR $$$ in its quest to defend this great country!

If he is elected he has already said he will again take $$$ from our military, SCARY :scared1: since we are STILL in a WAR!

I Hope he finds his $$$$ to fund his alleged tax cuts and Welfare handouts somewhere else!

:thumbsup2 DEMOCRATS FOR MCCAIN:thumbsup2

How will he follow through with his pledge for unity, specifically? I ask, because its a nice sentiment. We all want to feel like our views and issues will be addressed. However, with a fillibuster proof Senate majority, it seems unlikely that Obama or Pelosi will have to do any reaching across the aisle.
Rather then a pretty speech about unity, I would like to hear specifically how he plans to unite the country. So far that hasn't been forthcoming.
