O/T We just got picked to be a Neilson Family...

Has anyone else on the boards done this? There are 3000 families in Canada. You don't get paid for it but I thought it would be kind of fun to participate in. You can pack it in at anytime. We'll see how it goes.

We got picked quite a few years back to be a Neilson family and we had to scan everything we bought and then phone in and transmit results weekly. It was cool at first but then became a real pain---we were rewarded with I think it was points(it was over 10 years ago and can't remember that long ago ) I saved enough to get a nice gift then "resigned"!

yes we were chosen as a Nielsen for scanning groceries. It was interesting , we did it for over 2 years and then we sort of lost interest, it takes some commitment and and a little extra work they tell you get points and chances to win prizes but do not expect much/

We're going to try it out. They said you can do it for as long as you want for up to 5 years. We'll check it out and see what we think.
Thankfully, they now just hook a modem up to your tv and it feeds them all the info they need, so no extra work.

BTW we are doing it for tv ratings, not groceries. I didn't know they also did it for that. Thats kinda interesting.

We had friends do this and what I found alarming was the fact that they come into your home and, from what I understand, they will remove the back of each of your televisions and install some hardware. It sounded like pretty drastic stuff and, for our friends, I think the technicians had the back off for a couple of days before they got one of the sets working again. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable with anyone messing around inside my TV sets unless it was to repair the unit and the technician was a manufacture authorized service person. Hopefully, you don't have any problems with this part of it.
