O.k. so how old are your towels?

I have some towels that are 15 years old . Yes they are threadbare and in some places you can actually see right through them. They truly are sad but I just can't get rid of them , I find them perfect to dry my hair with and I can't stand a big fluffy towels on my head . New ones just wouldn't be the same .
No one else in the house will use them . Dh keeps insisting I throw them out
My DMI told me not too long ago when she was here for a visit that I needed new towels .

Anyone else have towels that are aged to perfection

Just to add, I do have fresh big fluffy towels to dry off on and guest towels, so not all of my towels are ancient

I still have an epcot beach size towel purchased on a trip in '85 (so roughly 21 yrs old) It's getting ratty but I can't throw it away for sentimental reasons.

I have some at least 8 years old, could be older. We just remodeled our bathroom so I have bought at least 8 new towels, so I will be throwing the oldest ones away.

Somewhere around here, I have an old Budweiser beach towel from when I went to Busch Gardens almost 30 years ago with my parents.

I think I have one or two towels left from wedding and shower gifts 12 years ago. I keep them for the same reason you keep yours. They're great for hair towels.

I still have some that were gifts when I married my ex-husband in 1985. Funny, now that I think of it...I still have the towels but I have a different husband.

Those ones are mainly used for wiping the dog's feet when it's muddy outside. I HAVE bought new ones since then--they're sort of our towels of last resort now. You know, if everything else in the house is dirty.

Big, fluffy towels are harder to dry yourself with. I prefer thinner ones.

I do have 2 that are about 15 years old. they are so thin now, they are more like paper towels!

half of them are about 5 years old, the other half I bought this year for the new bathroom.

i forgot- I do have 2 beach towels from 1983 & 1987.

I have microfiber towels for myself and DD for our hair. They absorb more water than a regular towel and are smaller and don't feel like a huge weight on your head.

We have towels that are 13 years old that are really in great condition. I've bought new ones because I'm sick of them. I told my DH to find out if Catholic Charities would like them. There is nothing wrong with them except that they are dark burgundy.

I have some 18 year old towels and some 16 year old towels (wedding gifts from the first wedding). They're still in very good shape, except the color has faded.

Then again, my personal adage has been that one can never be too rich, too thin or have too many towels-so we have a LOT of towels. During my Disney Store tenure, I bought tons of towels, lol! They're being stockpiled for the pool, lol.

Ours are 10 years old that I got for our wedding. The girls are newer and the beach towels are 2 years old. Dh and I have been talking about replacing a set (the other set is still very fluffy and looks good as new) and getting new bed linens which are 10 years old too (wedding). Our bed stuff looks worst especially the curtains with all the cat hair and the fading.

I'm all about big and fluffy! Any towel in my house older than 2 years is in the rag pile! I'm not kidding, even the kid's towels are less than 2 years old! I love a good towel sale!

Poohnatic and I subscribe to the same towel-hoarding views! We have many, many bath towels. DH likes big, fluffy ones, and I like the more rough absorbant ones. Also, DH works for Bed, Bath, & Beyond, so he gets good deals on rally nice towels.

Actually, about 75% of the towels we own are nearly 15 years old- wedding shower presents. None of them are really worn (just not as brightly colored as they used to be)- but they are probably in such good condition because we just have so many, they don't get washed over and over. Heck, I think I even have one towel I took from my mom and dad's house when I was in college- that was in 1984, and the towel was old then!

Aftyer 24 years of marriage , I had to replace our wedding towels (we got that many for gifts!) this year. I miss the old ones because they were more absorbant for some reason, more pliable and soft. The new ones are nice, but very bulky. it was weird going out and buying all new towels for the whole house, kitchen ones too. Good towels are expensive.

We have a few that are several years old, but most are only 1-2 years max. (Been using my Kohl's charge sale days to get stuff for the house lately...)

I gotta say, I was a little worried when I first saw this thread, until I realized that I had misread it; I didn't know why you wanted to know how old our bowels were!

Same goes for me too!
I went through a bathroom remodel with my keeper husband, and I did buy all new towels then, but when they are all dirty we end up using the old ones.

I'm a "towel" person. I love big, fluffy towels and I buy brand new every 2-3 years. I also buy the towels for all the bathrooms in the exact same color and make sure to throw out or donate all the old ones. I don't know why but I get such a kick out of opening my linen closet and having all these neatly folded matching towels on the shelves. I don't store anything else in the linen closets either, just the towels. I'm not neurotic about any other areas of my house, I'm only weird about the linen closet. I figure it doesn't matter how much chaos is going on around me as long as I have that one area under control.

I have a lot of old ones - still left from our wedding 15 years ago and even before. I keep a bunch of old ones in the laundry room to use for the dog,etc. I also like to keep a stack of old ones in the linen closet to grab for cleanup, sick kids, etc.

DH has been doing the laundry as I recover from a surgery. He rotates all the towels out evenly instead of using the ones we usually use. He's been putting beach towels, old towels, and weird undersized towels on the racks. If it was anywhere in that closet, it's in the rotation. It's been driving me nuts, but there's NO WAY I'm going to complain (out loud anyway!) since he's been so good about doing it. I'm taking laundry duty back this week and the first thing I'm going to do is reorganize my linen closet!

Well most of our towels were wedding present...our 19th anniversary is in August. I bought 2 new sets for the boys bathroom about 7 or 8 year ago and 2 new sets for our bathroom last year. The ones for my bathroom I bought at Kmart and they started to unravel the first time I washed them. I swear I have towels that are 20 years old that look better than the newest ones....
