O-H-I-O Brutus is going to Disney World

That's what I get for posting late at night after traveling all day...didn't rely translate from my head to the post LOL. What I meant was, how is it any different for the team (and mascot--just a student but part of the program) to get that stuff than all the stuff they receive from the bowls? They get all sorts of stuff, and if the bowl is near a park, they usually get admission to that. Don't get me wrong either--I totally think they SHOULD get it (plus IMO maybe even a small stipend, if the school were to choose) for the amount of time they give to the school. Yes, they get scholarships (nothing to sneeze at), but the programs make insane amounts of money off them, and they can't have jobs to earn spending money. Boy, I'm way OT here... ;). Cute pic. Hope to see Big Al in front of the castle one of these years!

I guess that all leads in to the unionization effort started by some of the Northwestern kids last year. Where that leads we'll have to see. I hear the NCAA made a rare exception and actually allowed schools to take the families of the final four teams to the respective bowls/playoff for the first time and I think they're going to do the same for the final four basketball teams (men and women). In the past, they've been on their own.

As far as the mascot, I assume he/she is indeed part of the program, but I doubt is regulated by the NCAA. I think that's just the players (and maybe cheerleaders??).

For that matter, who knows who is inside that Brutus costume we saw on the Disney TV ad or at MK. Although maybe far-fetched, it could even be they borrowed the costume from OSU and a Disney CM is wearing it.

Personally, I would have no problem if Disney had a parade honoring the national champions. Somehow, I just think the NCAA would.

dwats~oh~rats! did you see the lucky guy that Brutus was
sitting by on the plane?...some guys has all the luck!

( must of won the disney contest, eh? to have gotten that "prize"~
~~"seat". did you see the look on his face? )

but the best game~ i enjoyed the most~ was the sugar bowl.

:offtopic:..but football "hot" topic,

kuddos! to the 'bama trainers....& after the problem with the
mich's qb, it was good to see the staff paying attention toward
traumatic brain injuries.....& with "high def" tv ~ it is easier now
to understand why players sustaining concussions were missed "before".

near the goal line, when osu was trying to move out. the 'bama
player, "r." , was on the tackle of the qb. it didn't looked like a
really serious contact, except he was very slow getting up, to
one knee. then when the camera did the "close up"--you
could see the "trainers" testing him for concussion...but the dazed
look on his face told the real story...also you could see his "gross"
motor functions were effected. they then took him to the locker
room, hopefully a mri test. next time the camera found him,
he was in street clothing on the sidelines. though he looked
totally recovered...he "needed" to been taken out of the game.
thanks goodness , they did the right thing.

this was really good thing to see. fyi~ just read a sept. "Time"
story...of a high-school player. of course, he told the coaches
he was "good" to go. ( time/sept29, "he died playing this game")
....if you played football, that is the mindset. he went back on
the field and wasn't even touched when he collapsed.

..."preventive medicine" , i think the direction of medical interventions
..should be trying to improve because sports are not going away. in my
ways of thinking...,developing standards treatments @ all levels, matching
the types of symptoms-with the available treatments- to reduced deaths.
who knows & why not? simple things, direct ice applications might prevent
worsening conditions until others..like clotting agents-injections/sprays,
& i can see -maybe b/p meds in trying to reduce internal pressure
(second level ) & so forth--- to "buy" the time ...until they can be "fully"
clear; @ the hospital/medical staff facility ...before going home.
( "going home" , as in a major victory regarding the score. )

.....when i read the time's article, it was heart breaking to think something
as "simple" as ice to the head, might have prevented the internal
bleeding. one death, is one too many.

i know they are doing research with tbi & improving helmets. but i
hope they expand their work...to look @ things- like the metabolic effects.
i remember sweating 7/8 lbs daily. just wondering if losing na+,
k+, & if they are losing any clotting factors. also does the the "heating"
inside the helmet are weakening the smaller vessels? we need to
discover any/all factors that increase the risks.

what can common sense mixed with critical thinking prevent?
( i have several suggestions that i think has real potential in
not only preventing the more serious outcomes, but also "treatments"
for s/p reducing /preserving brain functioning. )

again...double kudos to the 'bama trainers for protecting their
players!

i really enjoy football especially college. teams i follow are more
than just one. the osu- wife school, ou bobcats-"mine", marshall's
thundering herd, the gators--always like gators, their colors, & becos
i started my medical schooling...while in the military...there--
in the 80's i always seem to id with the "convicts/Bernie's "school" in
Miami , Kentucky wildcats, and finally, but not @ the least...
"any team" playing the little/tiny school up north~who's name should
not be ever mentioned-via h. potter. make sense --- you have to be
pretty smart to be a wizard?!

wonder if i could borrow Brutus' head gear for next year mnnshp?

A few years ago I was standing in line for a ride at WDW. As we are getting closer to the loading area, I noticed that the complete stranger I will be sitting next to is completely decked in Maize and Blue, a walking billboard for our rival. He suddenly turns around to see me in my Buckeye gear. The look on his face was priceless, then he got a grumpy look on his face. I looked at him like I was sizing him up and said "I guess we can get along for a few minutes for the sake of the kids." With a serious look on his face, he slowly nodded and then we both broke out laughing. Our wives, who were a bit nervous at first, were quickly relieved. :lmao: We had a great time joking together. We really hammed it up. We saw some people with confused looks on their faces when they looked at us. A few strangers even asked if we would pose for picture together! Too bad we didn't take one ourselves!

P.S. I have nothing but respect for friends that cheer for the blocked M and their team.

That is great!! Coming from the other side, on year I took my dad to Disney World. He proudly wore his Michigan cap everywhere. Getting on Spaceship Earth, the CM looked at him and sneered "Michigan". I looked at him and sneered back, "Let me guess, Ohio." It was too funny!!

I want to say too a big Thank You to Ohio State for defending the honor of the Big 10 in such an outstanding manner!!!!!!!!!:cheer2::cheer2: I was cheering for you guys!!!

I have a cute O-H-I-O story. I used to work at the Grand Canyon as a photographer and one day I was standing near the rim when I was approached by a small group of people who asked me to take their photo. This is a pretty common request so I said ok and they handed me their camera. Four of them proceeded to walk to the edge of the rim and form the letters Ohio with their arms. And I took a very cute photo.

There is a page dedicated in the travel section of the Columbus Dispatch to people doing the Ohio all around the world at famous tourist spots. They probably submitted it. :-)

I'm planning to do the O-H-I-O using the castle as the "I" when we go down next month. Maybe will use the EPCOT ball for an "O" too! Certainly a lot of potential for creative photo opportunities around WDW :)

That's a great idea!! Maybe TOT as an "H??" (Seriously--look at a pic...). The inner tube Mickey at Tyhpoon Lagoon would make a great "O" too! Ooooh you need to do one at every park and then frame them together!!

Ok, now you have to pinky swear you won't tell anybody I'm thinking about this--they'll take away my Bama season tickets!!! Please come back and post pics of whatever you do!

Haha don't worry I won't tell! :) Those are great ideas! I'll be sure to put a mini collage together and post it! :thumbsup2

Saint Nick is watching you! And I'm not talking about Santa Claus!lol;):)
Heh heh.....we decided to leave some game early since we'd been around campus all day, and I told the folks sitting behind me "Cover me! If Nick sees me leave, he'll chew me out at the post-game!!" ;)

Brutus would have been there this weekend as part of the National college cheer championships. Brutus actually won the mascot competition. It concludes tonight; so I am sure they worked in a few photo ops for them while they were down there. :goodvibes

those are cool ideas....& i think will be fun doing. the more you put
into something, increase the chance of getting more out of it.
we're dvc owners @ blt....so we get the dvc mag., and a family
did the o-h-i-o in front of the castle...with new friends they
met in line. i thought that was neat.

oh, the lsu fan experience?..funny , we were there over christmas
but we were @ men in black. we met a really nice lsu family.
( lsu graduates with the mom being a cheerleader in her years
@ lsu) , what gave them away , they had 2 little boys all dressed
in lsu gear. we had a great encounter. the state farm com.,
reminded me....of them.

are the current lsu play by plays radio announcers the same as
the ones in the mid 90-s /early 2000? i used to listen to them
when hunting, because their games were late/evenings due to
the heat....i mentioning them , because they "live & die" with
the team performances ...making it fun to listen. ( they avoided
cussing..but you could tell when they wanted too)

Time mag. 's "man of the year"...should be their own writers!
over the years they have published "in depth" articles ..
combining research data , accurate/detailed documentation &
with personal human feelings that we all can understand. also
their graphs....were very professionals while giving readers
new insights....so if any diser is also a "time writer", kudos to
you & your "championship" work! fyi~ qthing i commented
on came from your story. ps, i used previous articles to
improved heath care. i hope those currently working on
football head injuries......are just not focusing on "one" part
of the risk factors.....because too much will be missed.

oh, just been re-watching the college game day show & they
mentioned osu victory over miami game. that kills me.

..if osu has lost would have been the biggest of all!

go back...to regulation on the 3rd down play...when osu
threw to flanker gamble. not only did they failed to called
the holding ( he had his jersey stretched across the screen)
but the replay showed he made the catch ,& in bounds.
the end with just 2 minutes to go & miami with just 2
timeouts left. so you wanted the team that really lost
be the winner on a "bum" call? the above can be seen
by watching the game.

* however, our trips to wdw, we have met some really neat
miami fans...& just by chance we were going to wdw when the
'canes had just played..osu (regular season) ...i was impressed
how strong some of their fans supported their team in
defeat...which i think showed more character.

yes i enjoy taking any "shot" ...i can to the canada sub~burg
team up ....north. butttie, i will never forget what "Bo" did
the game after woody was fired.....& the press was making
jokes &trying/inviting "Bo" to join in. instead he threaten to
throw them out....while inviting woody to have any seat.

i seen enough sports shows...to know there are some real
low-characters willing to used these coaches' miseries to
make $$$$, a good example, was the Hope situation
over their qb injury...sure they got a special place , next
to lawyers...in a very warm climate. did any one saw
the nice welcome...to that one character~what's his
name....month of "may", or on the "mark".

of course, i believe fans need to "put out" the welcome mat
to any team entering the horseshoe...after all, there's a real
reason for calling "it" the "home field advantage"?!!

hey?!...the dis..needs a new smilie....b-r-u-t-u-s,:yay:
now that's real walt disney's stuff!
